Just wanted to let everybody know that one of (if not the) pioneer of value-based drafting is in the Hall of Fame now. Truly well-deserved on Joe's part. Yes, this is sycophant-esque, but he truly deserves the recognition for his work in front of and behind the scenes.

Like starting and maintaining these boards that we all use that are the tops in the industry, too.

Please leave a kind word here. If you don't have a kind word because you're a jaded guy on the internet, please let discretion be the better part of your valor. This is a time to celebrate an accomplishment.

That’s awesome! Congratulations Joe!

I must admit, I had no idea there was a fantasy sports hall of fame. However, now that I know, Joe definitely deserves being in there.

He deserved to be in there years ago.  This is kind of like voting in Jordan after Dan Marjerle.

30 years in the making. Agreed on the 'what took so long' and who were they voting in instead? USENET Newsgroups before the old yellow for the win!

Well earned.

Congratulations! Always does the heart good to see great folks rewarded for their dedication, knowledge and work!

Thanks y'all. You're kind. It's a super sweet honor and I'm grateful but anyone who knows anything about me knows this is a team effort. I just had the foresight to surround myself with great people. And be fortunate to be part of great communities like this forum. We're all in this together.

Being able to make a living in fantasy then being a Hall-of-Famer in it...it's almost like a fantasy...congrats and take time to enjoy it!

Congratulations, Joe!

Joe Bryant elected to Fantasy Sports Hall of Fame

Induction ceremony to take place June 14 at
Fantasy Sports & Gaming Association’s Summer Conference in Detroit

MIDDLETON, Wis. – The Fantasy Sports & Gaming Association announced today the election of Joe Bryant to the Fantasy Sports Hall of Fame.

Bryant is the co-founder and CEO of Footballguys.com which, upon its launch in 1991, became one of the industry’s first content sites focusing on a single sport. Footballguys.com is renowned for its depth of content and tools, including coverage that addresses every aspect of fantasy football from standard leagues to survivor pools and everything in between.

In the mid-90s, Bryant invented the concept of “Value Based Drafting,” a system that utilizes an economic valuation model and places an emphasis on position scarcity and detailed statistical projections. VBD remains a foundational drafting mechanism to this day.

Perhaps most notably, however, Bryant has provided employment for hundreds of people since the inception of Footballguys.com and many prominent writers got their start with Bryant.

“I’m delighted with the selection of Joe Bryant as our next Fantasy Sports Hall of Fame member and I’d like to thank the Hall of Fame Committee – chaired this year by Yahoo’s Daniel Haight – for taking the time to select such a deserving recipient,” said FSGA Chair Stacie Stern. “For over 30 years, Joe has contributed in a meaningful way to the fantasy sports industry and his selection is a testament to his hard work and commitment to helping the average fantasy football player win their league.”

In typical fashion, Bryant was gracious when learning about his election to the Hall of Fame. “I figured out a long time ago it’s more about the process and journey than the destination,” said Bryant. “I couldn’t be prouder of my ‘coaching tree’ and the large number of people who’ve been involved in Footballguys – many of whom are still here and quite a few that have gone on to bigger places like NFL Network and CBS Sports.”

Bryant continued, “This award is a fantastic honor and to be included among the other Hall of Fame members is surreal. But this is absolutely a team effort.”

Bryant becomes the 23rd member of the Fantasy Sports Hall of Fame, joining previous honorees Ian Allan, Greg Ambrosius, John Benson, Matthew Berry, Paul Charchian, Cliff Charpentier, Steve Cohen, Glenn Colton, John Dewan, John Hunt, Bill James, Emil Kadlec, Lawr Michaels, Daniel Okrent, Peter Pezaris, Rob Phythian, Peter Schoenke, Ron Shandler, Glen Waggoner, Charlie Wiegert, Bill Winkenbach and Rick Wolf.

His induction ceremony will take place June 14 at the MGM Grand Detroit as part of the FSGA Summer Conference. Register for the conference at https://thefsga.org/2022-fsga-summer-conference. A complete agenda of the event can be found at https://thefsga.org/conference-agenda.

Wait...I love fantasy football and live just outside of Detroit. I never knew there was a conference here!!

Congratulations Joe. An amazing and well deserved honor. Thanks for everything you have contributed to the industry..

Hi @Payne  The FSGA trade association has a couple of conferences a year. They don't have set locations although the winter one is often in Las Vegas. This is the first time it's been in Detroit I believe and I'm looking forward to it. I haven't visited Detroit in very long while. Maybe we can get a FBG beer meetup one night. I'll be glad to buy you a beer.

I'm pretty sure those dates are wrong in the press release. I say that not to nitpick but it misses Joe's cheat sheets.net website.

Joe is a wonderful man that I've known or known of for thirty? years. He's not my biggest fan but he has always been respectful and professional towards me. I appreciate him.

The RSFF newsgroup was where fantasy football on the web began and even many things you see on message boards today. Ya know how Joe is all class? All class! Well he was back then too and some of us were know it all sarcastic college kids.

He had a boat business making these gorgeous wooden boats. I remember stories (I think on ol yeller) of dealing with customers and workers and it was fascinating.

Joe is a model for how to behave online. He's darn near perfect and I admire that.

I'm not and mess around and lose my temper or whatever.

Cheatsheets were lists in magazines that we would then rewrite in our order and debate. Why out this guy here? Why rank him 33rd? He's so much better than the 24th WR. Etc.

Joe was first obsessed with people understanding that different scoring requires different cheatsheets. Somehow we weren't all willing to accept this which is obvious now and (from where I sat viewing the world, clearly not him) the debates seemed to spawn him creating Cheatsheets.net and showing us (politely, respectfully in JB style) how wrong we were.

Ol yeller was stupid. Why am I gonna go there? Let's talk here still, but newsgroups we're really pre-browsers and passe so once each of us regulars shook off that resistance to change, we were all here and enjoying what felt like a new home.

There's Mr Football and JB merging and our comments actually "policed" and GK joining and Shick about ready to lose his mind because there was always someone telling him the naive "it's America we can say what we want" and....all sorts of adjustments that absolutely had to happen. I believe Joe was the catalyst for the decorum and I can't pass on enough how young n stupid we were and how wise and proper he was- we really needed him.

All those funny memes in his emails, that was probably rooted in RSFF.

His Thursday emails have been one of my favorite things for soooo long. I adore certain columnists because I have read their stuff in the paper for years. JB is probably my first on the web.

I love the guy and am super proud of him winning this award. It sincerely couldn't have been given to a better man

Dude! I've communicated terribly if you think I'm not your fan. I'm sorry. I'm sure we've differed on things in the past but I don't ever recall anything negative with you. We're all in this together.

And I'm a zillion miles from perfect. :lmao:

It's fine. I understand. Thank you. I think the world of you

i don't participate here nearly as much as i used to, but this is one of the few message boards i still check in on from time to time.

and that's in large part to how Joe set the standards for this place, despite at times rather intense criticism.

for that alone, he deserves an award.

thanks for everything you do.

congrats.
