Day 2, and Joe's fitting in his OF platoon, removing Matt Kemp in favor of the featherweight, bat-slapping, tired presence of Juan Pierre.

I've never understood why "old-school" managers who don't even understand fundamental baseball math continue to get jobs. I share your pain, friend.

By the same token, roto nerds underestimate the amount of man management that goes into leading a 25 man squad through a long season. If everyone stays healthy, Kemp and Ethier will get their 500+ PAs this season. Pierre will likely be a part timer. But he's been been a big league regular for seven years and needs his ego stroked a bit. Torre needs to make sure Pierre sees some action early. With a tough right hander on the mound, this was as good an opportunity as any.

To go from the batting third one day to the pine the next doesn't make much sense. Especially with a headcase like Kemp. Ethier in the three-hole is silly.

so trueWhen you drafted Kemp, you knew that the Dodgers outfield was crowded and he wasn't going to be an everyday player. It's good managing of a real team with real men on it to get them all regular ab's early in the season to keep them sharp. Expect this for at least the first few weeks or until Kemp or Ethier become too hot to sit. Kemp will still play 5 or 6 days per week. Oh, and the Dodgers are 2-0 coming out of the gate against the powerhouse Giants team :lmao:

I have Kemp on 2 teams  I knew the hot spring by Ethier was bad news for Kemp and nobody was saying it. Theres no way theyre just gonna bench Pierre every game and Ethier is a lefty. Also, Ethier was 3 for 5 last night :sadbanana:

Actually most people assumed Kemp was the full time RF while some kind of platoon with Ethier and Pierre in LF. But with the red hot spring Ethier had, Torre decided to bench Pierre and now it seems his starts may come in favor of Kemp.

It's the second game of the season. He is the every day RF, however, the Dodgers have a glut of OF's. Early in the year, all players like to get AB's, and Torre is not going to sit Pierre every day. Hell, if Repko was healthy, he may even get a game here or there.

Most people assumed Kemp was the full time RF? I didn't see that anywhere. There was some rumored speculation, but nothing more. The only full timer in the Dodgers OF is Andruw Jones.

:kicksrock: Thats why I said most people assumed that. I never said it was a fact.

But that's not true either, is it? I know I never believed he'd be a full timer, I thought and still think he'll get 500 AB's but he'll have plenty of days off (or at least, like last night, in a PH role). Am I the minority?

The Dodgers are 2-0. I don't think Joe Torre cares about your fantasy team.

Repko is in AAA and Delwyn Young is the 5th OF (since he can play IF too).Kemp, Jones and Ethier will be the OF the majority of the time. And if Pierre does start occasionally, whoever he starts over will get the late inning hits and defense since neither is anything Pierre is good at. Kemp has the highest ceiling of the Dodger OF and will be there. It seems this thread belongs as part of the Overreaction thread. Its game 2!Now dont be scared if Pierre starts over Ethier tonight (with a righty i doubt that happens). Torre is balancing the early season games and egos. In the long run, Ethier, Jones and Kemp will be the OFers MOST of the time.

Headcase? Really? How so?
I was serious here. Anyone esle heard this guy is a headcase?
for whatever its worth, jeff kent called him out last year and part of the year end implosion was based around kent's comments that the young guys are entitled and shouldnt be playing until they learn how to be a team. Kent calling out a guy for being me first is a bit hypocritical, but he is a veteran and wants a ring before hes done. The offseason was filled with rumors that they would move KEMP due to his attitude despite his potential for future stud status. So far, reports this year are that he has his head on straight (no issues with his sitting last night) and despite his "rookie" mistakes on the bases this spring, he seems to be learning and willing to listen to the coaches and veterans.

I realize you qualified your statement, but holy freaking crap - Kobe Bryant thinks Jeff Kent is selfish.

I agree. But with the later "rumors" that kemp may be moved due to his attitude there was possible a bit of truth. But I am guessing not enough since they are both still in LA. I think ultimately it was a bit overblown by the media.

It's not just at bats for Kemp/Either/Pierre. Juan Pierre is one of the worst defensive outfielders in the majors. Pierre should be a pinch runner at this point in his career.

Kemp played last night, 0 fer 4, stranding 5 runners. :scared:
Seriously... what Dodger fan actually wants Pierre to start over Kemp?
1 fer5 with 3 K's last night:coffee:I'm not a Dodgers fan, I'm just adding fuel to the fire with all these roto geeks who think they are better managers than Joe Torre.
You're really dealing some serious heat with that analysis.Do you even know who Matt Kemp is? Sort of seems like you first heard of the guy in this thread.

Matt Kemp has a lot of upside, but he is in danger of becoming a part time player for 2008 IMO. He better get his act together soon. At least to the level of respectability.

Kemp just needs to relax and play. He has the potential to be their best OFer and top hitter if he would just go hit like he can. He is pushing and needs to relax. Torre will get him going. And the way Pierre is playing, even if he starts, Kemp will get in the game in the 6th, since pierre is a defensive liability.

he's a pretty horrible offensive liability too

3/5, 1 run, 1 triple from the 2 hole.
That's better Kemp was just dropped in my league think I might add him and drop Pierre. Pierre had great SB numbers last year but Kemp has the upside. Just not sure who will get the playing time.

Its funny. Out of Kemp, Jones, Ethier, & Pierre Kemp has the highest BA.
Eitheir .281 (1-3 last night)Kemp .269 (1-4 last night)Pierre .167 (2-3 last night)Jones .129 (1-2 last night)The majority of the time, the OF will be Etheir, Jones, Kemp.Pierre will get some time unfortunately but whoever he replaces that day will get an at bat or 2 since pierre is crap at the plate late in the game and they will need a defensive replacement for him.
