Does anyone else not believe Joe Thomas? If you had a draft day tradition with your dad, wouldn't it involve watching the draft in some way, shape, or form? I just don't see how it came to be that every year during the NFL Draft, the Thomas family completely ignores the draft and goes fishing. Just seems sort of strange to me.

Way to bump this, so we hear more I love my daddy posts. This whole thread reminds me of Sandler's movie, Big Daddy, of when he's in the courtroom and in no certain terms let's his dad know he loves him. Then every other Joe needs to call his dad and tell him he loves him, too.

It's probably just a coincidence that the draft occurs during the same general time period as their annual fishing trip. And it may be that the Thomases just aren't big fans of the NFL. Lots of pro players in all sports have very poor knowledge of their leagues' histories because they're usually out honing their craft instead of watching all the games like we do.This is not a big deal. Joe would just rather go fishing than deal with the hype and mindless clatter of draft day. Hell, I blew off my college graduation for a weekend in West Virginia. :X

Sounds like more of you folks need to listen to The Audible. Cec and Bloom interviewed Joe Thomas' agent last week and he articulated this very story.

I doubt they ignore it. His Dad might actually have planned to have his son avoid the draft while he's learning his craft, so he didn't start thinking "that should be me up there...". Plus, it seems that's one day where the whole football world is keyed in on a relatively meaningless day to a college kid. He's not going to miss spring practice, he probably did his homework the rest of the year.

What's really hard to believe is that some people actually spend a weekend afternoon watching the NFL draft on television and consider it a worthwhile event to watch live.
Yeah, Adam Schefter said today that the NFL will have a camera mounted on the boat so that we can all see his reaction to being drafted. Man... the NFL is just completely out of control.
