John Brown Hype Train- Not as bad of reach as I thought (3 Viewers)

Week 15 Dynasty Risers and Fallers: Eagles' Jalen Hurts is the real deal

Excerpt:

FALLER: WR JOHN BROWN, BUFFALO BILLS

Brown has now missed three consecutive games with an ankle injury and is expected to be out for Week 15. In his most recent string of absences, Gabriel Davis has scored three times and is posting 55.3 yards per game. The Bills can save over $8 million by releasing Brown after this season, and his 68.8 receiving grade ranks 64th among wideouts (min. 30 targets). He runs a modest risk of not being attached to Josh Allen next year.

Bills placed WR John Brown on the reserve/COVID list.

Brown was a close contact of T.J. Yeldon, who tested positive for COVID-19 over the weekend. Brown need only test negative and stay isolated for five consecutive days to return in time for Buffalo's Week 17 game against the Dolphins. It's possible the team still chooses to hold him out until the Wild Card round if it has nothing to play for in the regular season finale.

Bills activated WR John Brown from the reserve/COVID-19 list.

Brown was cleared after being ruled a close contact of T.J. Yeldon, who tested positive for COVID-19. Already activated from IR, this puts Brown on track to play in Buffalo's Week 17 game against the Dolphins. Brown's return comes at a good time with Cole Beasley (knee) sidelined.

John Brown caught all four targets for 72 yards and a touchdown in Buffalo's Week 17 win over the Dolphins

Brown missed stretches of the season with an ankle injury, giving us nightmares of his time in Arizona where he consistently showed promise but faced untimely injury after untimely injury. His return is extremely timely with Cole Beasley suffering a knee injury in Week 16. While that timeline is uncertain, the Bills can still do plenty of damage with Stefon Diggs, Brown, Gabriel Davis and Isaiah McKenzie catching Josh Allen lasers. After operating as the team's lead receiver in 2019, Brown contributed 33 catches for 458 yards and three touchdowns in the 2020 regular season.

John Brown did not catch any of his four targets in the Bills' Wild Card Weekend win over the Colts.

Brown's usage was fine. He played nearly all of Buffalo's 59 offensive snaps and ran a route on 40 of Josh Allen's 41 drop backs against the Colts but was overshadowed by Gabriel Davis, who had four receptions for 85 yards. Brown will continue to be a high-variance fantasy option next week against the Ravens with Davis, Cole Beasley, and alpha No. 1 wideout Stefon Diggs commanding targets from Allen.

John Brown caught 8-of-11 targets for 62 yards in the Bills' Divisional Round win over the Ravens.

Despite being an every-down player, Brown came up catchless in last week's Divisional Round win, but tonight proved that the Colts' game was an outlier. Brown looked healthy against the Ravens and finished tied in targets with Stefon Diggs. Cole Beasley is playing through a knee injury, so Brown's target share could be a tad higher than normal in the AFC Championship. That will either be against the Chiefs or Browns. Both are plus matchups for Brown on paper.

John Brown caught 2-of-3 targets for 24 yards in the Bills' AFC Championship loss to the Chiefs.

Brown combined for 10-152-2 across Weeks 1-2 to open the season, but then the injuries started piling up and ruined Brown's year for the most part. He scored just one more touchdown the rest of the way and finished with a 33-458-3 line in nine games. Injuries have always been Brown's downfall, and he turns 31 this offseason. With just one year left on his deal and Gabriel Davis looking for an expanded role after a flashy rookie year, Brown could be cut. The Bills would save over $8 million against the cap by releasing Brown this offseason.

The Athletic's Joe Buscaglia said John Brown likely won't be back with the Bills in 2021.

Brown, 31 in April, would be a $9.53 million cap hit for a team that will struggle to stay under the league's salary cap. Buffalo would save more than $7 million if they release the veteran wideout this offseason. He was a fantasy non-factor for much of the 2020 season, averaging 3.6 receptions per game for 45.3 yards and three touchdowns in one of the NFL's pass heaviest offenses. Brown's departure would pave the way for Gabriel Davis to become an every-down outside receiver after an impressive rookie campaign in which he averaged 17.1 yards per catch on 62 targets. Davis would make for an intriguing pick in best ball leagues in a Josh Allen-led offense.

Many bills fans should have seen this coming the way Davis was playing at the mid-point of the season.

Bills released WR John Brown.

The move saves the Bills $7.9 million against the cap and comes with just $1.6 million in dead money. The near 31-year-old is a quality role player when healthy, but he spent last season dealing with a nagging ankle injury. He'll likely settle for a No. 3 receiver job elsewhere as a low-volume deep threat. Brown's release immediately puts 2020 fourth-rounder Gabriel Davis into the starting lineup. When Brown missed games last year, Davis averaged 9.8 PPR points. That is Davis' floor for 2021.

Brown is going to be a very good #2 somewhere. I would have liked to see the Bills keep him but they were heavy in good WR options and need to address both lines with little cap space so I see why they did it.

If he is healthy he may end up undervalued in drafts next year.

Free agent WR John Brown said he's interested in signing with the Steelers or Colts this offseason.

Brown views both teams as scheme fits. It's not clear if the interest is mutual, but the Steelers could have a spot for Brown with JuJu Smith-Schuster expected to hit the market. The Colts may also look to replace impending free agent T.Y. Hilton with a lower cost veteran like Brown.

Raiders signed WR John Brown, formerly of the Bills, to a one-year deal.

The Raiders, of course, are fresh off losing Nelson Agholor -- their top wideout -- to the Patriots. Brown, who had expressed interest in signing with Pittsburgh or Indianapolis, will likely join Henry Ruggs and Hunter Renfrow in three-wideout sets for Vegas. He could very well be the team's No. 1 receiver to start the year. Brown had 33 catches for 458 yards and three touchdowns in nine games last year in Buffalo.

John Brown played with the reserves in the Raiders' final preseason game on Sunday.

Brown caught one ball for two yards. That target came from Nathan Peterman, which is a red flag for Brown's odds of making the Raiders' final roster. When Brown signed a one-year deal in March, it was assumed he would be a start in two-wide sets. That is looking highly unlikely headed into the final two weeks of drafting season.

Raiders released WR John Brown.

Brown supposedly "requested" his release, but this move had been telegraphed for several days now. It did not seem implausible that Brown would emerge as the Raiders' de facto No. 1 receiver upon his signing in March, but instead coach Jon Gruden seemed to think Brown didn't have any legs left. He will undoubtedly get another opportunity elsewhere as a field stretcher. The Raiders are moving forward with young guns Henry Ruggs and Bryan Edwards alongside veterans Willie Snead and Hunter Renfrow. It's not a great situation for Derek Carr, who figures to lock on ever tighter to Darren Waller.

Broncos signed WR John Brown to the practice squad.

It's a necessary addition as Denver has struggled to find a second downfield threat beyond Courtland Sutton without both Jerry Jeudy (ankle, IR) and K.J. Hamler (torn ACL) available the past two games. Brown will open on the team's practice squad but, given his experience over slot wideout Kendall Hinton, Diontae Spencer, and David Moore, could get promoted to the active roster in no time. Jeudy is also expected to return within the next month. Brown most recently appeared in nine games for the Bills last year, totaling 33 catches for 458 yards and three scores.

Broncos elevated John Brown to the 53-player roster for Week 6 against the Raiders.

Signed by the Broncos last week, Brown could see game action against Vegas if they team activates him. He's far from a fantasy option, and with Jerry Jeudy (ankle) likely returning from injured reserve in Week 7 or Week 8, Brown has an exceedingly small avenue to fantasy relevance in 2021.
