Apologies if honda. Can you Michigan or political savvy folks give us more info on John James?

I saw this tweet from him and it was strong. From what I can gather, his opponent (incumbent Senator?) has ancestors who'd owned slaves and had connection to John Wilkes Booth.

James' response was strong. https://twitter.com/JohnJamesMI/status/1284918998761639936?s=20

Anyone know more?

Nice. Remains me of the John McCain clip where he shuts down his supporter when she claims Obama is a Muslim - which I re-watch when I need assurance that this isn't so crazy.

James does seem pretty good and the Republicans definitely need some minority representation, but I just don’t think this will be his year because Trump will drag him down.

I'm not sure, but it might be a Senate record when someone loses twice in just two years. Maybe in two more years he can run for Governor.

I’ll vote for Peters, I’m happy with the job he’s done. James seems like a qualified candidate, and I applaud his message here. He’s also proclaimed dedication for an administration I can’t support due to their buffoonery, so I can’t consider voting for him.

I think in a different national environment James could have some traction.

He actually got a surprisingly good Margin in his 2018 attempt. But Stabenow was on cruise control and didn’t really aggressively campaign.
I had originally thought he had some room here to outrun Trump a bit but polling hasn’t been kind.

His opponent's great-great-grandfather owned the barn in which Booth was cornered and killed.

That's........kind of cool.

Actually, it’s not, they were supposed to take him alive. They lit the barn on fire to flush him out, and one guy who “heard gods voice” decided to shoot him. The guy that shot him also castrated himself, so there’s that. Boston Corbett was his name.

To be fair, the shooter had castrated himself several years before he shot Booth.

(He thought it was the only way for him to avoid life's temptations.)

He says some nice things in this particular video, but I can't vote for someone that compares Roe vs. Wade to genocide, back Trumps 2000 percent, doesn't want to legalize weed.

James looked like he could have been a fresh voice a few years back. Impressive background,  and not necessarily a lifer politician.  As soon as he started gaining traction he got up to speed quickly with the dodging questions,  robotic answers,  talking points,  etc.  I suppose that's the way to go to,  you know,   be a politician.  It's too bad for someone like me just looking for a genuine person,  R,  D, or I.  But probably good for him looking to play the game.

Too bad too as John James seems like a good guy compared to John James, candidate for Senate.

Guess I'll stick to school board votes.

James was named one of the Detroit Business Journal's  Michigan Chronicle 40 under 40 in 2014.  Touting Michigan's top risers in the business community.

James served as a board member of the Michigan Council for Future Mobility, Michigan Minority Supplier Development Council and National Veteran Business Development Council. Currently, he serves on the Detroit Workforce Development Board.

A military veteran, attended Birmingham Brother Rice an all male Catholic prep school, Penn State grad, University of Michigan grad school.

James father founded a supply chain management company in Detroit so he grew up in the family business. As a black male he has everything going for him except his party affiliation.

Classy response. It's kind of a shame that our expectations for politicians have fallen so low that we feel the need to applaud the bare minimum of decorum, but I nonetheless honor him for taking the high road.

Not a Michigander, but if I were I would be in the same boat as others in this thread who think he's not a bad guy but would never vote for him due to his support for Trump. I know it's fashionable to decry partisan voting, but the reality of our current political system is that it is often the only rational response. If you're a Democrat in Michigan , it doesn't matter how appealing you may find James, or how independent he claims to be. The net effect of voting for him is to improve the chances of Mitch McConnell being Majority Leader. (And that remains true if you insert Republican/Alabama/Doug Jones/Chuck Schumer in the preceding sentence.)

If I was unhappy with the incumbent I’d give James a look.
