John Madden: Kevin Kolb (1 Viewer)

On SNF John Madden said Kolb looked like a star in practice and he wouldnt be suprised if he saw him sometime during the season, with the way McNabb has played I really wouldnt doubt that, and if I remember correctly McNabb has a significant salary these next two season and I wouldnt be suprised if it needed to be reworked. Could we see Kolb sometime soon?

I caught that comment too, but Madden said -- not this year. I think it will be an open question between seasons. If word is positive I might draft him as a late round-backup or expect to pick him up by week 5 of next year. A lot of teams will be looking for QB trades -- the eagles need receivers -- I think Eagles may think to trade McNabb (to Carolina?, Atlanta?, Minnesota?...)

Big difference between "this year" and "maybe a question next year." You need to get these facts straight before you post. Right now there is a lot more wrong with PHI than Donovan McNabb IMO; OL is not very good and defense is not very good.

I'm sure if I made a list of dumb things Madden says compared to actual information that could be used... the list would be 8:1 in favor of the dumb stuff.

Even though I only watched the game on and off... I'm sure he talked up McNabb and how he expected him to have a great game too.

Yeah, he's really renowned for going out of his way to compliment backups, particularly backups to stars.

Not to worry. It's all good. :pickle:

Mayock also likes him a lot and immediately said Kolb when Bloom asked him who this year's Cutler was.

Kolb looked great during the preseason. If the Eagles are officially out of the playoff hunt in the next few weeks, I wouldn't be surprised to see Kolb start the last few games.

kolb wont start any games unless mcnabb and feely get hurtthe eagles are just that stubborn
Andy Reid is as stubborn as it gets. I know he wants to be right about this kid being McNabb's eventual replacement. If the Eagles are Officially eliminated from the playoffs....I could see McNabb (who is still not 100% and likely won't be till next season) sitting the last few games to take a look at this kid.

as a philly homer, andy reid has a mancrush on mcnabb and his chunky soup and wouldnt bench him this season. best case scenario..... the eagles ask andy reid to step down as coach for the rest of the season because of his family issues, then the eagles play kolb to get him some expierience and see what the kid can do, and try to dump mcnabb to the Vikings, Bears, Panthers, Falcons, or Ravens in the offseason for some Mid-Round draft choices and work on the rebuilding of this franchise.

I would'nt put too much stock in Madden's QB evaluation. He thought that guy at the garage sale could throw and look how that turned out.

Man, I tell you, Philly fans are harsh and not in a good way. McNabb has one bad season after coming off of a major injury and your ready to throw him and probably Andy Reid too out with the garbage. If it happens, you deserve what you get. As a Cowboy fan I would love to see it happen.

We demand the best. Too many seasons of mediocrity and no championships around here. Bring us the prize, or get out!!!

I forget, how many Superbowls have the Eagles won? Might want to win that first one before you make it Superbowl or bust.

I think there is a better than 50/50 shot that Kolb is the starter next year and Mcnabb is not on the team, perhaps in Minnesota. I thought Mcnabb had this year to save himself and gain another year, but he clearly has not performed, injury or not. Sal Pal also thinks Kolb will start in 2008, and the Eagles can release Mcnabb with little cap hit and save some money.

:2cents: Those consistent NFC East titles and playoff trips getting old?? Just how good do you think your Eagles are going to do with Kolb? Go ahead and can Andy Reid, he's done more with less talent on that team than a lot of other Head Coaches would have been able to do. It's not like the Eagles have a history of spending big time money, the Cowboys, Giants, and Redskins owe the Eagle fans a huge debt of gratitude if McNabb and Reid leave this year.

The Vikings, Panthers, Jaguars, Ravens, Bears and probably some other teams, must be waiting with their fingers crossed.

I don't know if Kolb is going to be any good. I like McNabb, and like the idea of a healthy McNabb continuing to QB this team. But Reid, I've grown tired of him. He consistently ignores things that could have been a difference between NFC championship game, and superbowl win.

He neglects getting a true #1 for McNabb...except for the one season he didn't neglect it, and got TO, and we went to the superbowl and lost by 3 points.

Until then we had guys like Na Brown, Todd Pinkston, Freddie Mitchell....pathetic. Give McNabb some weapons!!!

He neglects getting a running back who can pick up those really tough short yardage situations.....and he refuses the keep a decent run/pass ratio so that our offense doesn't become predictable.

I could go on and on. I appreciate what he's done for this town, but I fully believe that we have no shot at winning a superbowl with him as our coach. I think it's time to move on.

come back to sweet home chicago mcnabb

:2cents: That's where I think he ends up.

Does Reid really have GM power? I'm not familiar with the team enough to know. My first thought is to blame it on the owner/president/GM for not bringing in that type of personnel, unless he gets to pick and choose who he wants. It must be nice to complain about JUST getting to the playoffs & championship game. What I wouldn't give to see the Bills there year after year. It could be worse fella

Tom Heckert is the GM in title, but Andy does have the final say on all personnel decisions. I know it must sound bad to be complaining, when there are tons of teams who are terrible year after year, and would trade place with the Eagles in a second....and those were all fun years, that I wouldn't trade them for anything, but it doesn't change the fact that we want a championship. We want to win it all, and how many more years should Reid have to get it done,

The Eagles need to rebuild. They need a new coach and a new Offensive coordinator. Every Eagles game I watch, the play calling is just sickening. Have you ever seen a game plan so vanilla and predictable?? If I owned the Eagles I would put Reid on some sort of diet and workout plan because he is just disgusting to look at. When your that fat and slovenly your brain isn't as sharp and it's plain to see that it's affecting his decisions and play-calling. The Eagles have so many needs to address but I think the most important one is high cholesterol.

I guess I understand where you're coming from. Most teams have so many years of success before they fall backwards and go through a rebuilding period for several years. If you don't win it during that time span the wait is much longer.

there was a lot of talk after about 3 weeks that mcnabb was in his last year in philly because of his contract. i only buy that if reid is gone, but i think there's at least a 50:50 chance he is.

While I agree Reid is enormous - and looks terrible right now, the man has had probably the worst year of his life. The fact he has soldiered through his sons' ordeals and remained as dedicated to his team as he has is commendable (and perhaps stubbornly prideful).Give Andy a pass on the gut in 2007. It does need some work though or he isn't gonna lead a long life.

I thought Reid was the huge Kolb fan. If Reid moves on wouldn't the new HC prefer the stability of the former pro-bowl QB rather than live through the growing pains of somebody elses project?

Did anyone else see Kolb play against Detroit earlier this year? It was ugly.
McNabb's play has been ugly for 80% of the season.... all the guy does is dump it off to Westbrook... even when there down by 20pts. Then; when he finally does throw it for 10+ yds.... its picked.Reid should take the rest of the season off; take care of family business... mean while, Philly should deal McNabb in the off-season and Reid gets a fresh start in 2008.

Now hold on, McNabb hasn't finished a season healthy in how many years? It is true that the franchise hasn't done anything to help him of late in the WR department and LJ Smith has been hurt, but McNabb has lost a lot of value since he can't run anymore. LBs used to have to shadow him now they can drop back into coverage because they know he can't go anywhere.I don't think its time to put him out to pasture, but I question his ability to be effective this season. Perhaps next year he'll be back to his old self, but from the franchise's perspective that is a very expensive perhaps. If McNabb is still hurt and God knows they are out of playoff contention (unless Garcia comes back) then it wouldn't be a bad idea to give Kolb some reps and let Don get well.

The Panthers will have Delhomme back next season so I doubt they would want to spend money on trying to get McNabb. Delhomme will be 33 next year, and I would think they would want a younger quarterback than McNabb to eventually take over for Delhomme.

well with the eagles sitting at 3-5 and looking at their remaining schedule, the playoffs are just about of the question. There are too many teams in the NFC better than the eagles, like every team in the NFC East etc... As a die hard fan I think its time to turn the page on McNabb as well. I dont care if its now or later on. These people defending McNabb, I dont get your stance. Yes he was great but the last few years he cant stay healthy and is brutal to watch. I find myself yelling at the TV at him saying "RUN" or "THROW THE BALL." Ofcourse leaving the obsenities out here. I know the guy is hurt but have the presence of mind to not take a sack or fumble when the pressure is upon you. I do not blame the disappointing season on Mcnabb alone, the eagles need to rebuild with Reid being apart of it. The Cowboys, Giants and Redskins are going to be competative for the foreseeable future so the Eagles days of dominating the NFC are over. A nice offseason acquiring FAs Bob Sanders and Fitzy would be great...

Do I think Kolb will play this year ? Doubt it, only if Mcnabb goes down. As for next year Maybe, my gut tells me mcnabb is cut or traded...

McNabb and Reid are a bad combo. One or both need to go. And I hate to say that because I appreciate what they did for all those years.

When McNabb is under center, Reid can't resist calling pass after pass after pass and relying on McNabb to win games. That was fine from 1999 to 2004, when McNabb was one of the league's best QBs. But now injuries have made McNabb a shell of his former self. Yet Reid calls plays as if he's got the younger, healthier, better version of McNabb out there. Worse, the lack of WR talent wasn't a huge problem when we had the McNabb of old, because McNabb could buy time in the pocket with his legs to allow them extra time to get open. That doesn't happen anymore, and McNabb is taking way too many sacks because of it. This offense should be going through Brian Westbrook, not McNabb, and Andy seems to be the only person who doesn't realize it -- or refuses to realize it.

Reid did not do this when he had Garcia at QB. The playcalling (which he handed over to Morhinweg) was a nice mixture of run and pass, and the pass plays were well-tailored to what Garcia could do. Why he doesn't tailor the offense to what the McNabb of 2007 can do is beyond me. He seems to have delusions when it comes to McNabb, and it's hurting the team greatly. Therefore, they can't continue to work together.

I can't wait for Berman's...Kevin "Corn on the" Kolb references.

Really, I can't wait. Its gonna be awesome.

Madden compaired Dallas trying to score up by 25 points at the start of 4th to what NE did last week. :goodposting:
He said something to the effect: "Now people may try to compare this to New England but I don't have a problem with a team coming out firing at the beginning of the fourth quarter with a big lead. I've always felt you wait until there about 8 minutes left in the game before you think about letting up."It sounded to me like he was arguing that Dallas was not running up the score like NE had been accused of.
