John McClain's 3rd mock out today April 10 (1 Viewer)

From this morning:

John McClain's 3rd mock

In my third mock draft, I’ve made five changes among the top-10 picks, including dropping Texas A&M quarterback Ryan Tannehill from fourth to Cleveland to eighth to Miami.

Tannehill to Cleveland makes sense because the Browns have been looking for another quarterback, but they have immediate needs at running back and receiver to improve an offense that was horrible last season.

I’ve moved USC offensive tackle Matt Kalil, the safest pick in the draft, back to Minnesota in the third spot. In my last mock, I had the Vikings taking LSU cornerback Morris Claiborne because their pass defense was awful.

At this point, the only thing I’m sure about is the first two picks being quarterbacks Andrew Luck and Robert Griffin III. If the Vikings take Kalil, then the draft will really begin with the Browns and the fourth spot.

See the entire mock draft below.

1. IND - QB Andrew Luck

2. WAS - QB RG III

3. MIN - OT Ryan Kalil

4. CLE - RB Trent Richardson

5. TB - CB Morris Claiborne

6. STL - WR Justin Blackmon

7. JAX - DE/OLB Melvin Ingram

8. MIA - QB Ryan Tannenhill

9. CAR - DT Fletcher Cox

10. BUF - OT Riley Rieff

11. KC - DT Donari Poe

12. SEA - LB Luke Kuechly

13. ARI - OT Jonathan Martin

14. DAL - OG David DeCastro

15. PHI - DT Michael Brockers

16. NYJ - OLB/DE Courtney Upshaw

17. CIN - CB Stephon Gilmore

18. SD - OT/OG Cordy Glenn

19. CHI - WR Michael Floyd

20. TEN - DE Quinton Coples

21. CIN - WR Kendall Wright

22. CLE - OT Mike Adams

23. DET - CB Dre Kirpatrick

24. PIT - ILB Don’t’e Hightower

25. DEN - DT Jerel Worthy

26. HOU - WR Stephen Hill

27. NE - S Mark Barron

28. NYJ - OLB/DE Whitney Mercilus

29. GB - OLB/DE Nick Perry

30. SF - OG Kevin Zitler

31. NE - NT Kendall Reyes

32. NYG - TE Coby Fleener
Coples dropping suprised me other than that this looks reasonable. In the Lammey/Bloom/Waldman thread I used the players that the guys mentioned and did a mock and saw that I missed Brockers and I would have plugged him in at the lowest to Denver but feel he's better than the 25th best player so I like that McClain has him going 16th to Philly.

Also I think he's got it right where Hightower will go in the first round and the third tier WRs projected to go after, Blackmon, FLloyd and Kendall Wright, (Reuben Randall and Stephen Hill) will slip out of the first round.

EDIT: Hill is there and Philly picks 15th.

why would anyone draft Couples when he himself has acknowledge that he takes plays off and motivation is often a factor? Why create that headache for yourself or team?

I understand the thought of the Giants taking the TE but I would bet the farm they grab a RB like Martin. Between the two positions, they can't afford not to address RB in a significant way.

No way Floyd is there for Bears.
That was my thinking as well. I think he could go as high as St. Louis (and ahead of Blackmon at that point) or to Buffalo. Good to see he has Coples dropping because that's also something I've speculated.I'm surprised he doesn't have Rueben Randle and Devon Still in the 1st.

Is John so upset that the Ravens beat the Texans in the playoffs last year that he dropped the Ravens out of his mock and put the NYJ in there instead???

ohhh and GB picks at 28 not the NYJ/Baltimore

On the bright side, he should have no trouble fitting in.

Exactly. If the Rams don;t take him over Blackmon, something I wouldn't at all be surprised to see, then he's not getting past Buffalo. They spent way too much on Harvard and then the guy tanked. They have to have someone for the guy to throw to...

I assumed the mistake was mine in copying John's material but he made a mistake:28. New York Jets: OLB Whitney Mercilus, Illinois Mock 1 pick: Mercilus Comment: The one-year wonder with 16 sacks and 9 forced fumbles will elevate Rex Ryan’s pass rush. (Mayra Beltran / Houston Chronicle) I don't know if he projects a trade because he actually has the Jets taking OLB/DE Courtney Upshaw at sixteen.16. NYJ: OLB Courtney Upshaw, Alabama Mock 2 pick: OLB Whitney Mercilus, Illinois Comment: He’s a college defensive end who should be able to make the transition to outside linebacker in Rex Ryan’s 3-4. (AP)I would imagine he will correct this and give Baltimore a reasonable selection along the lines of C Peter Konz but you are correct in that John made a mistake. Point for you.

Not new but its possible that some teams could have concerns.Michael Floyd Arrested for DUI

Good call with Coples falling. I don't think people realize how far his stock has dropped. It wouldnt surprise me to see him go out of the top 25.

Like I said...

A DUI arrest isn't a positive by any means. But from what I'd heard, Floyd's reaction to the situation was about as perfect as you could hope for in terms of showing maturity and learning from it. Went to counseling, moved back on campus, changed his circle of friends, stopped drinking in bars, etc.

A single incident isn't cause for alarm but three suggest their is risk of an ongoing problem.NY Times article on FLlyod's charector concerns

... Floyd was arrested early March 20 and alleged to have registered a .19 BAC. In late June, he was sentenced to a year of probation a after pleading guilty to a misdemeanor drunken driving charge. It was Floyd's third alcohol-related dust-up since 2009.

And I would hope that someone who is still on probation for DUI till June and had a potential muli-million dollar career in front of him would say the correct things but then again I would expect that he would not have three alcohol related issues and be on probation before the draft.I can easily see how he could be viewed as a risk and that his alcohol issues could effect his draft stock.
