John Skelton (1 Viewer)

I was just wondering about the mess in the desert. Doesn't seem like it should be that long before they take a look at this kid. DA is not the answer. Hall looks like an undersized deer in the headlights. Skelton seems like he has the tools as far as arm and size are concerned. Anybody have any thoughts?

They are emphatic that Skelton will not see a lick of playing time this year, citing his accuracy. Given the QBs that are seeing the field, their stated reason is laughable. But I do not expect him to start at any point.

I agree with Clifford. It seems they may juggle back and forth between Hall and Anderson but I don't see them sticking in a 2nd rookie that is not ready to be playing in the NFL yet. He may be given a chance to earn playing time with good mini camps and training camp next year.

Are you kiddin' me? Haley must be absolutely sick and tired of DA considering how he went to Hall and is now even considering Skelton.

>>>Whiz: Still no QB decision. "We are going to look at it. We have injury issues and performance issues."<<<

Grabbing the Cowboys DST asap.

Whiz: Still no QB decision. "We are going to look at it. We have injury issues and performance issues."

Haley?

Skelton will probably start this week. The other two are brutally bad. Kurt Warner should win the MVP this year just because of how bad the Cards are now without him.

Haley?
Sorry, dumb on my part - Fixed. {Must be in a timewarp to when Haley was OC; in that case they would be starting Warner}

You mean he may actually have some?

Bumping this thread as I am going to go out on a limb here - I think he's got real potential. Good size and arm strength.

We reviewed him some in this week's Prospecting column. I think he could play well down the stretch - not Peyton Manning or Big Ben good - but show enough that Arizona may be pleasantly surprised by what they see in him. No way should they bank on him for 2011, but he shoudl get a shot to compete in camp next year if he plays well.

Skelton has a good enough arm to get the ball out to Fitz, Breaston and Hightower and the matchups are pretty decent for the Cards. Time will tell, but he's worth a Dynasty flier.

If he starts this weekend, what do you see as his floor/ceiling numbers Jeff? I'm trying to gauge Fitz's potential. There's no way I throw Fitz out there with DA starting (assuming he passes his concussion tests) but I'm intrigued with the Skleton possibilities. With that said, Fitz will most certainly draw the Champ Clamp this weekend, and the Denver pass D completely shut Cassell, Bowe, and the Chiefs down last Sunday. I'm just not feeling it for the AZ passing game this weekend. Not sure about the rest of the schedule though....

Was just able to snag him off waivers in a start 2QB dynasty. Pretty excited, had to cut Brodie Croyle but I feel his upside is much higher than Croyle both this week (assuming both start) and going forward into next season and beyond. You have to love his weapons. You can say that AZ has a decent receiving corps. But truth be told, they have the best receiver in the NFL and a bunch of "other guys." So the upside is super high there. If he were to be tapped the long term answer for the Cardinals, he'd have better weapons than Freeman, Clausen, Bradford, or Sanchez. Larry is better than anything any of those guys has. Really, when you think about it, he's the best WR in the NFL, he's better than anything anyone has.

The likelihood of John Skelton fully tapping into Larry Fitzgerald's potential is probably pretty low, but there is a chance. And if he does it, you hit the jackpot. In dynasty terms he is a classic boom/bust. But it isn't like you are paying a high price for him. He's a longshot, but with he's a longshot with serious upside.

I don't understand. Skelton is "by no means" ready to play QB in the NFL but he might be the right fit for Arizona's offense right now?

Dec. 6 - 6:43 pm etCardinals coach Ken Whisenhunt said Monday that John Skelton is "by no means" ready to play quarterback in the NFL.At the same time, Whisehunt admitted that Skelton might be the right fit for Arizona's reeling offense right now: "We're going to look at that. I can't say. We have injuries there. We have performance issues at that position. That's something that we're going to look at as we go forward this week."Source: ESPN.com

I saw this yesterday. I think he said this to temper expectations. I think he meant to convey the idea that while Skelton might have talent he is most certainly still far from polished.

Skelton will get his shot this week, but enthusiasm should be tempered. I really like the guy for a long-term prospect, but keep in mind that Max Freaking Hall was playing ahead of Skelton. Hall looked absolutely horrible during his playing time. I actually think Skelton will do better than Hall did, but that really isn't saying much. He is very raw and hasn't practiced at all with the first team until this week. It is pretty tough to jump into a situation like the Cards have, with no D, no running game, and no passing game, and expect a rookie QB to perform well.

It's going to be rough for the rest of the year for the Cards, but at least they will get a decent look at Skelton so they can figure out what to do in the draft and free agency next year.

I think that his floor/ceiling will range widely, so it really isn't worth stating. Could he be under 100 yards? Sure. 300? Unlikely.I think Fitz will get 5-7 catches and 70-90 yards. Maybe he scores, I don't know - that's always tough to gauge.

I do think Skelton will complete about 50-60% of his attempts - and those will be around 30-35 - at about 7YPA. So that would say a baseline would be: 15 for 30, 210 yds.

Fitz for 80, Breaston for 60, Hightower for 45. Sprinkle a few more in for Doucet - about 25.

Bump. What say you all now that he played a full game?
About what I expected when I read the stats. Definitely start him for the rest of the season. My cable crapped the bed yesterday so I didn't get a chance to actually see how he looked. I picked him up in a dynasty league just in case. Anybody see anything to be impressed with?

All I saw was a couple highlights and the post-game interviews on nfl.com.Wisenhunt spoke well of him, saying that they were pleased with his poise and decision making. He said there is definitely something to build on, but there is a lot of work to do. Coach speak: I'm happy with his performance, but dang it really has come down to this, hasn't it?Skelton answered some questions. He really looks like he stepped off a tractor and into a media room. He is unassuming, and really even-keeled. A reporter asked him how he felt Sat. night and what he did. He said he watched some TV and fell asleep. He really seems like it's all just part of a day. Not sure if that's always good though. You see Manning and Brady and Rivers and Favre etc. getting excited or getting in guy's faces. Skelton said that just isn't him.Feely talked briefly about him and said similiar things to Wiz. Poised, impressive considering he came from Fordham etc.

Skelton was one of my major sleepers from the 2010 class. I got him in every one of my dynasty leagues via the Rookie Draft or through waivers (not that anybody cares, LOL). I wasn't only high on his talent, but I liked his situation, as well.

Skelton has all the tools. Make no mistake, this kid is a very good prospect.

I watched the game - most of it at least. He looked OK - accuracy needs work. Looked the part well and didn't force bad throws. Targeted Fitz often (11 targets). Also ran it well. Not flashy. I'd say Big Ben is his top end upside, or Joe Flacco. I would expect a little better each game as he has decent matchups over the next few weeks, but they won't ask too much of him (again, think Big Ben Year 1).Definitely looks the part of an NFL QB and didn't look rattled.

Only saw a little of the AZ game.... but given the final results and what I saw of him.... Carolina DST seems like a poor or uncertain start this week, right? This will not be Max Hall II out there.
