Joique Bell and Shawnbrey McNeal (1 Viewer)

Ever since reading Waldman's RSP I've been interested in Joique Bell and Shawnbrey McNeal, both of whom he rates very highly (11 and 10 respectively). But I haven't heard much discussion on these players. Are they small school guys with NFL talent and high upside? Or are they just depth at the next level? How do they compare to some of last years small school RBs in terms of talent (Bernard Scott, Rashad Jennings)?

I don't think Bell has the skills to make it, but McNeal has the potential to build a niche for himself. He's a better version of Joe McKnight in my eyes. He'd be a great late round grab for a team like the Jets, LT is a stopgap and Leon is probably gone after 2010, if McNeal proves himself he could earn the Leon role in 2011.

Funny, I kind of think the same thing about McNeal and almost said that in the Times piece today. I do like Bell a lot from what I saw of him at the Senior Bowl, but without studying games I just have too many reservations to outright endorse him. Love his effort, strength, and balance.

Well... Shawnbrey didn't get drafted, but it seems to me like he landed in a pretty favorable position. SD could let Sproles walk next year if McNeal shows he can assume that role... which he seems well suited to do.

I took a flyer on him with a late 2nd rounder in a 14-team PPR Dev league, as there really wasn't much left on the board anyhow. It will be very intriguing to watch his development in training camp as the potential backup to another rookie...

Don't rule out Bell as a longshot candidate to be the Buffalo primary RB.

*Lynch heading out of town

*Jackson getting up there in age

*Spiller has questionable between the tackles skills

On the other hand, Bell looks like a determined, patient back with good power and balance. RBs emerge from out of nowhere all the time - why not him?

what's up with McNeal? Doesn't seem like he's getting a sniff. Matthews, Sproles, Tolbert, Mason= not enough room for him?

maybe he'll get a look in week 2?

Saw Bell at the Senior Bowl with Wildman and the kid is very instinctive. Picks his feet up nicely, runs with good balance and forward lean. I do worry that he might be another Xavier Omon. X was very productive (only 4x 1,500 rusher in CFB history) but lacked the juice to make it in the pros. Bell will have to prove that he can get to top speed in a hurry and change direction without losing much speed.

Like McNeal more than Joe McKnight. We've never really seen him in a pro set, and he'll have to play with better functional strength in pass protection. I like his elusiveness and creativity in the open field. Not elite speed or athleticism, but he could carve out a niche role.

Joique Bell should see significant playing time vs the Colts tonight. With Lynch & Jackson out, he's #2.

Lynch will be back in the pre-season & Jackson will be back around Week 2, then Bell goes back to #4 on the depth chart. I don't see him getting any action at RB this year in the regular season. For dynasty purposes, there's a chance he could nab a bigger role in 2011. He does look good.

another solid outing by this kid, He can plays its just a matter if he will get the opportunity

Joique Bell, one major step closer to making the team.

Mike Florio at ProFootballTalk.com is reporting that the Buffalo Bills have released running back Chad Simpson.

Simpson rushed for 109 yards and a touchdown on 26 preseason carries, and also added 10 receiving yards on two receptions. He was part of an ugly-looking hit in which he and Cincinnati corner Brandon Ghee collided helmet-to-helmet, but he was fine, playing and scoring in the preseason finale.

Buffalo's all set with their top three running backs, so Simpson was a longshot anyway. Joique Bell's strong preseason sealed his fate; it's still unclear whether or not Bell, an undrafted rookie out of Wayne State, will make the team. Stay tuned for more roster cuts and other Bills news throughout the day

Bell got cut. I'm a little surprised since he ran the ball so well, but he doesn't catch the ball all that well, he doesn't play special teams and The position is still deep even with cutting him.

Not playing special teams sealed his fate IMO. If he played special teams he would have made the roster IMO.
