Jonathan Demme (1944 - 2017) (1 Viewer)

:(

btw, you haven't seen Ray Liotta 'til you've seen "Something Wild" ...

Ray Sinclair >>>> Henry Hill.

that flick was a brilliant, ground breaking piece by Demme - i consider it his best, a greatly under appreciated 80s gem.

R.I.P.

wOw. One of the good guys of film, from what i hear. Expanded cinema's horizons and made each film a family efffort - super rare combination. RIP -

RIP

Eclectic oeuvre or body of work to include Silence of the Lambs AND Stop Making Sense, arguably one of the greatest concert films ever (with Gimme Shelter and Woodstock).

My favorite Demme movies are two of his early low-budget features:  Handle with Care (originally titled Citizens Band) and Melvin and Howard.

These were shot and set in the 70s but harken back to an earlier era of small town American life that maybe never really existed outside of Frank Capra movies.  They both feature comic characters that a different director might have handled less sympathetically.  They're both worth a watch if you stumble upon them.
