Jonathan Dwyer (1 Viewer)

I know he is/was technically behind Mendy, Mewelde and Redman but......

Mendy has been unspectacular this year to put it nicely. And he's coming off a ton of carries last year and already broke down once.

Mewelde is not a feature back and has a high ankle sprain.

Redman looked great in preseason but had his chance last week and got upstaged by Dwyer.

So why no waiver wire love for this guy?

Last week the pool steered me to snagging Jackie Battle off the waiver wire so I was really hoping to get some shark feedback on Dwyer.

TIA

Just haven't been impressed with Mendenhall at all this year. And his fumbling in the SB cost PIT big time.

Dwyer looked like a beast coming out of GT. Was surprised he slipped so far in his draft.

Dwyer didn't look very good playing against good college teams. GT's schedule is filled with cupcake fillers both in and out of division.

That's a very stupid statement. Dwyer ran over FSU, CLemson, UGA, Miami, VT

He came into the league overweight, had a poor work ethic, and looked terrible in the preseason last year. That's why he was a forgotten man.

And what about now? Did he show enough to push for playing time. Mendy has a hammy and those could linger - especially for a guy who carried as much as he did last year.

All that is true. It's not because of college competition.

He still looks over weight, like a slower Mendenhall... although he did bust one big run. Worth keeping an eye on but nowhere near prime time right now.

And Redman was more impressive than Dwyer last week. Dwyer had one big run through a huge hole. Redman was banging for tough yards.

apparently you're just looking at stats. I'm a big steelers fan and there is no way dwyer does anything of substance the rest of the way outside of multiple injuries to Redman and Mendenhall, the spinmaster.....

imo, Redman is the best RB to own right now in Pitt.

The Steelers' RB situation is a mess, in a couple deeper leagues I'm taking a shot on him while he's cheap. Why not?
No, it really isn't. Mendy rushed for 1k+ in 2009, 1250 in 2010 with 320+ rushes. He is the #1 when he is healthy and everyone else is pretty much an after thought. The only question is if Mendy is healthy this week or does he need 1 more week?

I dunno, Mendy hasn't looked the same even with the offensive line woes. I think Dwyer could cut into his carries a bit more than expected.

While I know it's going to sound like one of those people that say "take away his long run...blah, blah, blah...", but Dwyer got almost all of his yards on one long run. The reason why he's not a waiver wire darling is that Mendenhall is the starter, Redman is the backup and you can't really depend on Dwyer breaking 74 yard runs on the 2-3 carries he MAY get per game. He may be a good speculative add if you have the space "hoping" that Mendy or Redman get injured, but otherwise he has minimal value in a redraft.

Mendy is the #1 RB in Pitt. Dwyer returns to #4 when Moore is healthy. Nothing to see here.
This./threadThere's a good chance Dwyer is inactive if Mewelde is able to play. Dwyer is awful at pass blocking and while the long run was nice, all of his other carries left alot to be desired. Moore is the team's best 3rd down back and is an excellent pass protector with above average hands. Redman looked very good last week in his starter's audition, he has a nose for getting the extra yardage and as Tomlin said 'he battles for every extra blade of grass'. That being said, this is Mendenhall's gig unless injury occurs. The past few weeks our o-line was horrendous but last week the o-line play was much much better (only 1 sack allowed, 170+ yds rushing) with the addition of Starks at LT. We should see Mendenhall's #'s start to creep back up to normal levels (70-100+ yds 1-2 tds / game)

His long run on Sunday was not impressive. yes, it was a long run. But no one touched him, he showed no speed, and his stiff arm at the end failed. A better back would have scored. He looks fat to me.

Bottom line: on his best run he just didn't look impressive to me. I could be wrong, but that's what I base a lot of my decisions on.

it was said above, he's #4 - why would you pick him up??

Lots of good posts in this thread. I seriously doubt we hear from Dwyer again this year
