Now that he will be splitting carries and not returning kicks do you all still have high expectations for him? With Carolinas history of being down on Williams I imagine Stewart will be the starter somewhere down the line but I'm a little disappointed since I traded McFadden and Phillip Rivers for Stewart and Garrard. I got the better qb out of it and McFadden is in a similiar situation at least.

What is your projections for Stewart now?

Really? How is McFadden's situation similar? Last I heard his competition was looking pretty weak and Stewart's was looking pretty strong.

Good question. I think the OP made a bad trade. I'd rather have McFadden/Rivers over Stewart/Garrard, but it is close.

It's all a matter of preference.

Stewart is the superior player in a situation with more competition.

I believe talent always wins out in the end, so I would take Stewart's talent over McFadden's situation.

Others disagree and choose current opportunity.

I like McFadden better than Stewart and I like Rivers better than Garrard.

But I'm still high on Stewart. I think he eventually phases out Williams and becomes a full time back. Williams is good, but Stewart is better.

Am I misinterpreting this comment? McFadden's competition is looking anything but weak. Fargas ran for over 1000 in last year's debacle and is a solid back. Both he and Michael Bush have looked very, very good this year. I think the Oakland rushing attack is going to be the best in the league this year. Their O-line is actually quite good at run blocking and equally as bad pass protecting. That said, Russell is going to ease into it this year with a lot of short and drop off passes and the team is going to run, run, run. Probelm is, I think Fargas and Bush are going to combine for the bulk of the work with McFadden getting some carries as they ease him in as well. All three will play. Good for Oakland, bad for fantasy guys.I happen to like D Williams and think he is going to keep Stewart off the field more than people here seem to think. However, it is still going to be close to a committee, if for no other reason than to keep both backs fresh and healthy. In the end, for fatnasy purpuses, I think you have to like Stewart better because he is part of a two man committee, not a three headed monster.

Not that I necessarily feel McFadden is the superior talent, but I do know that your argument is the same that people are using to prefer McFadden. It's not situation, it's talent. Many many people feel McFadden is the more talented RB.

I know Stewart has speed and is a bruiser, but can he catch? Will make a difference when the Panthers are behind or in 3rd and long situations.

I am still high on stewart. I think all the positives about williams echo taylor last year. Stewart is a more explosive runer. He's younger. He'll play his way on the field. I think he has a big day tomorrow, and started him over Williams, Curry, Clayton

I think he'll crack 1,000 rushing yards this year. I expect major contributions.

I don't buy the "Fox doesn't play rookie RBs" line with Stewart. Each player is a unique case. He'll play. The fact that they took him off returns probably has something to do with their plans for him at RB.

I keep hearing this? Who are the rookies he hasn't played? Just b/c their last few pix have busted doesn't mean Fox won't start a rookie???

And before last year's draft, everyone was saying Al Davis won't take a QB in the 1st round. These careers are so short, and sample sizes so small, that trying to predict what a coach/GM will do is really a crapshoot.

you guys know way more than I do - EBF's eye for young talent is well established - but I can't help but feel that DeAngelo is being shortchanged here. He averaged 5 ypc when he got the rock last year, and has looked great this preseason, and the coaching staff has raved about his growth. I think he's going to be more of a factor this year than Stewart supporters will.

Yeah but you are forgetting how much CAR likes to run. I think they both get the rock this year. D wiliams may get his 5 YPC and convert first downs, but I have a have a feeling we are gonna be watching the carries that Stewart gets on more sportcenter clips this year.Note: I have D will in the league I have Stewart. I just saw this guy play a few times last year (including when he ran all over Michigan) and I think he's a really explosve back who is being really undervalued? But that's why I was able to get him where I did? das ff

I too am high on Stewart, but DeAngelo > Taylor IMHO.
Chester Taylor? Not only is Williams > Taylor, it's also true that Peterson > Stewart. I don't see those situations as comparable.
I don't necessarily mean that all their running styles etc match up. But that CT was the 5 yard plodder, the reliable guy, and AP was the young untetsed waiting in the wings back. I also think that like last year after this gyu shows what he can do it's gonna get harder and harder to deny him the ball, a la the ap-taylor situation.Hell CT coulda rushed for 1500 yards behind that line. But the kid was too good. And I see this one the same way.

Am I the only one who's trying to figure out what has changed so much about Stewart's situation that this post needed to be made?

and please. don't make me do math. But I don't think anyone said that anyone mentioned was better than ALL DAY
