Joseph Addai (1 Viewer)

I try to read Bill Polian's (Colts GM) chat on Colts.com each week. His current spin is that he thinks the 2-back system is the future of the NFL, and that a team needs 2 good backs to be competitive. This seems to be a caution that Addai could still split carries to some extent in future seasons - regardless of whether Rhodes comes back or not. The Colts got De De Dorsey off of waivers from the Bengals at the end of pre-season - and given a year working in the offense could be the "other" back next year.
Good point, although using 2 backs can mean different things to different teams. Some could be 50/50, some 80/20.Even if Addai continues to split time and is limited to 18-20 carries a game, that still is a robust 300 carry workload, with probably the vast majority of goal line duty. Any fantasy owner will take that in a heartbeat.

The fact HE is the Redzone guy makes him a must start IMO. I will have a pin the tail on the RB with Taylor, McGahee and Addai... Once the Colts get in the redzone, its Addai and no one else.
Addai is helped immensly by the Colts offense, but he's also hurt by the Colts philosophy of still giving D.Rhodes the ball for 40% of he time.Long term Addai might be very a top 5 back, but no way is he one now.Lots of things can happen long term...In a dynasty league I think he's in the same clump of RB's as Maroney, Bush, Cadillac, etcAll of them need something to change in order to truly be an elite back
Agreed. But in a must start 2 RB league, he is a MUST start IMO. Unless your absolutely LOADED at RB.

Cost me a shot at the playoffs.
I still have a chance to lose this game. He still has Alexander, Driver and Branch going tonight. Those guys could eat up 55 points pretty quickly in a PPR

How many SB's have been won with a 2 back set? I guess you could call Pittsburgh a 2 back set last year for most of the year but the game was won with just 1 RB. Other than that I can't really think of anything except maybe TB using Alstott at the goal line when they won it.....Anyone else have any thoughts?

There may not have been many (if any) two-RB Super Bowl winners, but I don't necessarily view that as a strong cause-and-effect relationship. In any event, I think the big thing is that the Indy offense seems to have a nice rhythm when Addai is in there. Beyond is all-around skills, that might make it tough for Dungy to take him off the field for meaningful stretches in the future.

He's the #8 RB in my league, despite not really getting much playuing time in a number of games.Last night, when it was time to convert third down, or goalline opps, Addai was in. Rhodes is already being phased out. Of the rookie RBs, Addai is closest to being a STUD next year.

What are everybody's thoughts on Addai's value come FF playoffs, are the Colts going to protect him by playing him sparingly OR continue to give him a bigger role?

Colts will definitely need to play their starters on week 15, and probably will need to play their starters on week 16. Week 17 might be a different story.

Keep in mind that most teams have used 2 or more backs most of time anyway. To what extent is debatable. But clearly most teams use more than 1 back. Understanding the role each plays is what I look for in fantasy terms. At the beginning of the year I felt they would spit the load until about mid-season and then I thought Addai would be the primary back. They will continue to use Rhodes but Addai is the main man and his numbers speak loud and clear.

We need either BAL or SD to remain a game back minimum heading into week 16. Note that SD plays a 3pm game while both IND and BAL play at noon. IND has to win assuming 1 game lead and not having the luxury of knowing whether SD has won or lost. Go Ravens and GO Chargers!!!

good find and an interesting point. this is the guy that matters IMO.Bottom line, I find it hard to believe that any team would play an inferior player just because 2 RBs work better than 1.They have to believe that Rhodes' 10th to 15th carries are better than Addai's 20th to 25th, which I find odd considering the numbers Addai has put up in the 2x he's gotten 20+ carries.
