Josh Freeman and Tashard Choice (1 Viewer)

I saw Freeman play twice in college and came away thinking that he might be the worst BCS QB I had ever seen and laughed when he went at 1.19 and chalked it up to R. Morris being at KSU during his tenure there.

Then I watched him play a few times and came away thinking this guy could be pretty good, but he was horrible in college most of the time. What changed?

I'm still leary of him, but I'm coming around slowly to where I would consider him if I needed a young QB to develop on my roster, but I just can't forget what I saw him do in college.
What are you talking about? He was very very good in college outside of his freshman year.
What am I talking about? I'm talking about the 2 games that I personally watched him play (vs. Mizzou's horrid pass defense) where he went a combined 23-55 for 184 yds and 2 INTs... The only player I've ever seen with a worse stat line in person was Ryan Leaf against the Chiefs when he didn't complete a pass.To add that you thought he was very, very good you must not have watched him during conference season many times...At best he was the 4th or 5th best QB in the Big 12 during his best season behind McCoy, Bradford, Daniel, Harrell, Reesing, Robinson, Griffin III, etc... As a Mizzou fan, I can tell you that Chase Daniel put up much better stats and his season was seen as a big disappointment and he went undrafted.

Sure he has a freakishly strong arm, but that doesn't do you much good when you are bouncing fastballs at your TEs feet 12 yds down field.

I definitely am not knocking the kid. He has the measurables, but he is/was very raw and young at KSU and I think it will take surrounding him with some elite talent to fully take advantage of his skills as he grows...KW2, Benn, M. Williams is a pretty good start! I just can't dismiss what I saw.
You observations would hold more wieght if we hadn't already seen a season out of him at the NFL level. Clearly he has shown that he can play at the NFL level. The question now is regarding his upside? Is he a future career backup, a future career game manager, or a future career stud?
10:18 TD/INT ratio is pretty ugly...he has shown flashes, which is what caught my attention, but his stats look similar to the QB I saw in college. I hope he puts it together and becomes a star, but to act like he is a can't miss prospect is silly, IMO.
I agree, and completely agree with what you said about him in college, (Nebraska fan here.) He would make horrible decisions all the time, and miss wide-open receivers frequently. I was shocked when people projected him possibly going in the second round, and even more stunned when TB moved up to grab him in the 1st. He seems like the classic 'measurables' guy with a cannon arm (JaMarcus Russell anyone?), and the ability to scramble. He has a ways to go to be a solid NFL QB. I think it's certainly possible that he succeeds, but still don't think it's terribly likely.

One thing seemingly never mentioned about Freeman, and something I never knew until I heard him speak here in Tampa, is his intelligence...which is obviously an important quality in QBs. Of course that intelligence has to translate to the field...but the comparison to Russell ends with the physical similiarity.
