Josh Gordon - August 1, 2016 (1 Viewer)

I made this trade about a month ago and I'm Team B. I feel terrible for the guy I traded with but am happy not to be holding a bag of ####. I'll probably end up getting good value for Bryant too, sorry bro.

Team A gave up:
Bryant, Martavis PIT WR
Year 2016 Draft Pick 1.04
Year 2016 Draft Pick 2.03

Team B gave up:
Gordon, Josh CLE WR
Year 2016 Draft Pick 2.05
Year 2016 Draft Pick 2.08

Teams are made aware of failed tests the second they happen.

As is the league.

So, as to why he still hasn't had the league boot his ### for yet another year, is anyone's guess

Or better, why he hasn't been cut
This explains the change in the message coming from the Browns last month.

Anyone holding on to this fool is clearly sipping the Kool-aid. He is finished. Safe to drop in all formats. The end has come SoulFly3. You fought the good battle. Exit quietly out the back door friend. No one will notice.

Um, of course it does.  How would it not?  You know, there were these slimy bankers who did some really shady things a few years back and the US economy really suffered from it.  Most, rightfully so, lost their jobs because of it.  Let say they got hired back and did the same crap again - you're telling me that wouldn't make the banks look bad?
Destroying the economy and ruining lives isn't exactly the same as smoking a doobie or have a few drinks on a plane with teammates.  Cmon now.

his value is zero now or damn close to it, buying him regardless of the price is silly. thinking he will ever learn is silly. Another year off is not going to help him see the light. Especially if he is in hollywood hanging with Johnny after knowing he had a positive test

He fails a test in March, does this timeframe match the MMA fight that Gordon and his best buddy Manziel attended?  The NFL probably tested him the morning after that fight.  Thanks Johnny!

Don't want to start another conspiracy theory, but apparently both samples were diluted.  Can't this be explained by him being overly hydrated?  Like working out all the time and drinking jugs of water hydrated?

Not really, unless he was drinking jugs of water and peed once or twice right before taking the test.

That and when they test you I would imagine they notify you and then you have to report.  I don;t think they show up with a cup and say "pee right this second", in which case, if he drank jugs of water right before the test that would be dilute and an automatic fail.  He is probably dumb enough to do that.

I think he hired Onterio Smith as a consultant. He just put the wrong sample in the whizzinator

There was marijuana in the samples.

No excuse is going to work.

'Sample being diluted' is a very general way of saying 'this person tried to beat the test.'

The way that you beat a test results in a diluted sample.  GNC has an entire shelf of 'cleansers' that will dilute a sample, and often allow people to pass tests.

First off being around Johnny Loser is not a good start to getting back into the NFL.  Manziel shows he could care less about the NFL and wishes to spend what ever NFL money and time he has left partying then off to parents to sponge off.  Hope the powers to be and parents give a clear wake-up call to Manziel.  I'm sure Cleveland, fantasy fans and football fans were  hoping for Gordan to right himself for he is a given talent on the field when clear headed.  Manziel=toxic. Sad very sad to toss away a gig most would give their right hand for.

Below the threshold.  Not trying to stick up for the guy.  Just trying to piece together what's going on behind the scenes.  Perhaps that's why this is more a leak than a report from a guy like schefty.  Sounds like the league is trying to get all their ducks in a row before dropping the hammer.  This might be another protracted legal battle.

Diluted, which is a fail, and weed in the sample.

The Ancient Aliens show has more believable stories than Josh if he has the audacity to claim innocence.

...and as previously stated, the league won't do anything.  Josh's indefinite suspension will just continue, forever.  Lol

He is indefinitely suspended; the drug policy says the commish has the sole authority to decide if he gets another chance.  Even if he can make a compelling argument that he inhaled second-hand smoke (again   ), and accidentally drank gallons of water right before his test, Goodell doesn't have to let him play again.

Ian Rapoport reporting that there was a substance that is used to dilute urine in the samples.

So no, he was not just "over hydrated".

This obviously doesn't sound good for Gordon but based on the NFL's track record of leaking information that wasn't exactly 100% accurate (Saints bounty, the air pressure of the Patriots footballs, etc) I'll wait until the story is vetted a bit before jumping to rash conclusions.

With that said, hanging out with Manziel at a fight in Vegas is one thing but partying at clubs and living together seems incredibly stupid by Gordon with a career opportunity hanging in the balance.

I know the Patriots' cheating scandals were true.

Wasn't the Saints' bounty scandal true, too?

The big questions are:

Has he been paying for all the weed on credit?

And what happens when his dealer sees that he's not ever going to get another fat NFL contract and finally comes to collect?

I hope he didn't quit his day-job selling cars.  But I have to wonder why a car dealer doesn't even care about all the missed drug tests.  Or did they give him the boot long ago and I didn't read about it?

It's a good pt.  While unlikely, it's possible this another NFL eff up.  I took a flyer on Gordon last year so no worries on my end if he never plays again - but I hope things work out for him.

How many people in this world would quite literally kill for the gift and opportunity Gordon had?  Tragic.

i agree 100 %

is weed that important?
Don't know how it could be. But I guess I'm just a little bit smarter than Josh Gordon. If I had a chance to be a superstar and live that kind of lifestyle and be set for life just for catching a football, I don't care if the league told me I couldn't eat hamburger, or drink coffee. As stupid as I might think it is, I would have the willpower not to do it if I knew it was going to cost me my chance. I have zero sympathy for Gordon. Just an idiot.

Well, I just "bought low" on the guy (again).  I sent the #21 rookie pick for him and the #29 rookie pick.  It's worth sliding 8 spots for the little sliver of a shot he plays this year or next.

You're missing the point.  He broke the rules of his employment, repeatedly.  He did so again (or at least the new of him doing so) between the time of my post that you replied to and you actually replying to it.  No matter if the rule was smoking week, drinking, or doing something far more nefarious.  It looks bad on the company (in this case the NFL) if you continuously bring an employee back time after time who continues to break the same rules and doesn't learn.

You seem to have an issue with the rule itself - and that's a different topic altogether (and you and I agree on that point).  Just because you and I, and he, disagrees with the rule, or the enforcement thereof, doesn't mean he doesn't have to follow that rule.

A friend of mine made an interesting comment along those lines last night when we were talking about this.

He said, "When I (my friend) was in the military, they told me I couldn't hang any confederate flag in my room, couldn't wear a shirt in public that had profanity, drug paraphernalia, or pretty much do a damned thing that made Uncle Sam look bad because I represented them in the way they wanted. And, of course, I couldn't do drugs.  And I did ALL that (what they asked) and never considered otherwise for about $40K a year and this idiot can't enjoy being a rock star millionaire athlete because of a dime bag."

When you think about what barrier Josh Gordon repeatedly creates for himself and what price...and he knows this...it is just almost impossible to believe.

I'm not sure the rule doesn't matter here.  In fact, I think it does matter, quite a bit actually, which rule gets broken.

It looks bad for the NFL to bring back a guy that continually breaks the rules?  Well, let's assume it's a violation of recreational drugs.  And ONLY recreational drugs.  Like Gordon.  Who does it 'look bad' to?  And more importantly, what is the negative result for the league?  The league has proven time and time again that it is a business, and making money is the driving force.

We have plenty of evidence that suspensions for recreational drug use are forgotten quickly, if a player comes back and performs.  I don't think there's much negative reaction to players getting busted for PEDs, either, really, but even LESS so for recreational drugs.  Does anyone remember that Von Miller and Derek Wolfe have both served drug suspensions?

Really, here's the question:  Will it cost the league money if they bring back Gordon?  I don't think so.  Will the league suffer a massive PR hit if Gordon comes back?  No, in fact, there will probably be sappy human interest stories about Gordon's 'long road back', probably involving a strong older woman in his life, or a church minister.

Nah, I think the league probably doesn't want to catch anyone doing anything.  But this bonehead cannot keep his nose clean.
