Jupiter Ascending (2-6-15) (1 Viewer)

I'm easily amused when it comes to Sci-fi.

He is going to be as happy as a baby psychlo on kerbango
:lmao:

I ####### love BEarth. soooooo bad.
I really enjoyed the book. I got a copy 20 years ago for 50 cents at some dollar store.

When I was reading it my best friend at the time vehemently tried to get me to stop because Hubbard wrote it and he was disturbed by scientology.

I had to explain to him that reading a sci-fi book isnt going to cause a religious conversion and that just because I read the iliad and odyssey I didnt then start sacruficing livestock to Poseidon.

Its doing better overseas ($32.5 million), especially in Eastern Europe and Asia, where it was #1 in some countries.

The worst, most appallingly bad line I heard in any trailer (seems like the commercials could dry up pretty fast, at least here?) was when the male lead told the female lead they had little in common because he was part dog, and she said she liked dogs. OOF! If that line is a microcosm, so to speak, and in any way representative of the dialogue as a whole, that's not good.

I loved it and hope they make more, but if the reviews are meaningful, they won't.

I wonder if Star Wars came out in this era, if anyone would go see it. By the time people looked on their smartphones and saw that rotten tomatoes gave it less than 30%, they'd save their money.

But it's a great flick.
It was so bad. Plot wasn't even remotely fleshed out. So many aspects of the storyline that were glossed over. Visually it was cool, but that was it. Both my sons wanted to see it so we went. Everyone regretted that choice.

Interesting storyline, and I thought they did it well. Looks like most people don't agree. Too bad, because I'd love to see sequels, which won't happen now.
I loved Flash Gordon so this must be in my wheel house of "don't take it so seriously" sci-fi entertainment. Flash was so bad in so many ways it was great.

This sounds like a movie that will be visually stunning and develop a cult following as it is bombing at the box office and no sequels will ever be made.

As far as the Matrix series....they should have stopped at The Matrix. A fantastic movie. The sequels were freaking offensive and the story and screenplay was simply incoherent mumbo jumbo. Just bad to the third degree.

I didn't notice it at the time. But then when Mila Kunis speaks, i don't bother worrying about how corny the lines are. I just watch her lips move in wonder.

I get engrossed in movies, especially Sci-fi movies. I also try not to look at reviews ahead of time. Sometimes I have no idea whether a movie is going to be a classic or a bust when I leave the theater.

I remember a decade ago leaving The Core and telling my friends what an amazing movie that was. They still laugh at me for that one.

I was absolutely floored when I left Jupiter Ascending, logged onto rotten tomatoes and saw the horrific ratings. I honestly couldn't believe it.

In retrospect, I can see some holes, and some plot issues. I can also see areas they should have dug into more. But the movie had a lot of great stuff in it, and some really cool ideas. I like the Jupiter Ascending universe and hope it doesn't go away, though I think it will.

 Perfect flick to queue up on DirecTV cinema some night my wife's out with her friends and I feel like some mindless entertainment and a pizza.

The Core is fantasy, not sci-fi. If you shut your brain off it's a fun ride.

I ####### love BEarth. soooooo bad.
The movie that best fits that description for me is Toxic Avenger.

The difference being, I'm pretty sure (hope? :) ) it was tongue in cheek. Travolta was trying to make a serious movie, which inadvertantly made it even more hilarious.

The toxic avenger is a Wagner opera compared to BE

There were some Dianetics insiders that attempted to tell Travolta how ridiculous BE was, but they were were put in "The Hole". :)

He's actually part wolf and he says, "I have more in common with a dog than with you, your highness" and then she says she likes dogs.

Correcting it doesn't really make it better though.

I still fell asleep in the 3rd act.

I gave a similar review to Return of the King.

Some directors need to know when they should wrap things up.

That line there is a perfect example of a Campy Sci-fi movie and the reason some of us are comparing it to the 80's "Flash Gordon" movie, which BTW, if you haven't watched that one GO NOW!!! :lmao:

Watch it just for Melody Anderson.

Everything was wrong with movie. I honestly can't fathom how anyone liked it. Literally the worst big budget movie I've ever seen.

So basically Avatar.
Sure, it was a ripoff of Ferngully but Avatar at least had a coherent story. JA was just one thing happening after another with no character development.

So the mother lived to 90,000 before she was murdered but only had 3 children - one which she had when she was 76,000 years old?

And her children, including the one who is 14,000 years old, do not have any children of their own.

Trying to make any sense out of this gigantic steaming pile of dung is only gonna make your head hurt.

Ignoring the probabilities of a complete genetic clone of yourself being born, why would it make sense to leave your family's fortune to some random person simply because they have your DNA?

I think someone( including mistakenly the directors) took this movie WAY to seriously..

Not to :deadhorse: the point.. But if you went in to it like me hoping to see this generations "Flash Gordon" you'd enjoy it a LOT more. :)

Flash Gordon was cheesy, but it was a simple bad guy vs. good guy story. Everything that happened in it made sense within that universe.

JA is just a mish-mash of different movies with no concern for good writing and storytelling. IMO it was written for 8 year olds who just want to see some pretty images on the screen.

First movie I've seen in a while where I was wishing it was over with like 20 minutes left.

I liked it when mila Kunis fell in love with Seth Rogen after he shot the aliens who rape tested her DNA and tried to murder her but then she still married the other guy right away and then Seth Rogen could live in outer space so he and sir dies a lot came back to save her.

Just great. now I don't even need to see it.

You got further than me...

Jupiter was dumber than a box of rocks, but while being kidnapped to see pretty boy overlord she memorizes the galactic law books.

there's nothing like a good intergalactic action movie that culminates in a battle of fictitious legal space technicalities

Not to be that guy...but this looks really, really bad. A blond vulcan/elf Channing Tatum?
Looks like Mugatu
This is exactly what I thought from the previews. I'd be willing to see it based on the Wachowskis history but this just looks like a Hunger games clone. Not plot wise but just the aesthetics of it. Seems to be aiming for the 10-17 year old female demo.
The only demo that got a higher score from men than women was under 18. Definitely skewed towards women though - 6.2 overall from women and 6.0 from men - unusual for a sci-fi movie.
Chicks under 18 love this movie - 6.8 ( :homer: alert)

Women overall down to 5.9 while men are down to 5.5.

Not sure how anyone could "love" the movie .. as I said I realized from the previews this was going to be a mess..

so I went in expecting a  :tfp: and was not disappointed and entertained.

Just saw this on a flight. Was not worth the $5 I paid. Would have preferred just about anything than this #### show. Awful plot and story.

Finally caught this on one of my premium stations.

Not bad, not great. I think of it like Dune, I really enjoyed the universe it was based in and ended up reading all of the Dune books.

The universe this is based in is an interesting concept, and I would enjoy stuff based around that.

I did enjoy the Terry Gilliam sighting.
