Jury Duty - special criminal cases (1 Viewer)

I was summoned and it says the jury type is for special criminal cases lasting approximately 6 weeks.  Any idea what that could be for?

Aside from potentially being cut off from the world for 6 weeks, I'm strangely looking forward to it (famous last words).

I was on a jury for six weeks but I don't recall those words being specified anywhere on forms or anything like that. I had to fill out a 3/4 page questionnaire before going into court though. The lawyers knew who we were.

  I served on a jury (second alternate) for a murder case in the 90s. Was also told it would be about six weeks, and it turned out to be 8 weeks. I found the experience interesting, even though I futilely tried to get out of jury duty.

Fast forward 8 years. I couldn't sleep one night, so I went downstairs and turned the on the TV. Stopped on TLC and watched the ending of a show called The Prosecutors. The very next episode was about the murder trial which I served jury duty.

Fast forward to last year: the former prosecutor of that trial was my divorce lawyer.

Generally all a "Special" Panel means is that the jury duty notice is for a specific case expected to last more than 2 or 3 weeks.  Ordinary jury notices are for two days but you could get empaneled onto a case for longer.  This notice is seeking to empanel a jury for a specific case.  So yeah, you might get something juicy.

The only "juicy" jury duty I ever want is judging melted-in cheeseburgers in MN. GLGB.
