What happens if the Marlins,Braves,Cubs,Giants,and Rockies all finish with a record of 88-74? Who would make the playoffs in that scenario?

Some kind of ridiculously awesome 5-team round-robin to decide who wins?

If it's 3 teams, then team X plays team Y, and team Z plays the winner. Who gets to be Team Z is decided ahead of time (either coin flip or some kind of tie-breaker, I can't remember)
