What is the deal with Justin Smith? Besides the last play of week 1 against ARI when he got a sack and forced a fumble, the guy has done absolutely nothing. I'm about ready to start Ray Edwards over him until further notice.

Guy is having an awesome year. IMO, his role has changed and he should not have be counted on as a DL1-2 on your fantasy team.link

Niners defensive coordinator Greg Manusky was gushing over the play of defensive lineman Justin Smith, who played almost every snap in the opener. After the 49ers' coaches' film review, Smith was credited with 13 quarterback pressure and nine hits on Kurt Warner to go along with his one sack.

Said Manusky, "I've been in the league for a long time and I haven't seen a defensive lineman do what he did in all 20 years of playing and coaching. . . . I've never seen a guy play at that high a level for that amount of snaps and be as effective as he is. He had a good game."

When told of Manusky's remarks, Smith said wryly, "He's full of crap."

Guy had another great game today. Was all over the field.

For fantasy... tough call. I'm holding, but he's a 3/4 right now IMO

I started him over Tuck today because I wanted to make sure Tuck was 100% before putting him back in the lineup...damn!

It was a tough call this morning but it's my own fault for not realizing SF use a 3-4. That would have made my decision for me.

Aaron Smith (Steelers) is the basically the ceiling of what you can expect from a 3-4 and he is in a one gap scheme. If 49ers are running a two gap, expect a ceiling something like Richard Seymour. 3-4 DEs just aren't good in fantasy.

I had him last year and he was a stud....but last year he was lining up as an OLB a lot of the time which freed him up for tackles/sacks...This year they are playing him like a true DE...which sucks in a 3/4 in fantasy...Edwards would be a better pick right now since offenses are terrified of Big Jared...
