Kai Parham (1 Viewer)

From what I've heard Oliver Hoyte is probably ahead of Parham after the first mini-camp. Parham looked stiff and slow. Hoyte is explosive and more athletic.

Those are both guys who were rumored to be possible Pats draft picks. I was surprised when they didn't pick either one of them up late.

I suspect the only reason either of these guys is being talked on the boards is due to the fact that The Sporting News and Street & Smiths both ranked Kai Parham of UVA at the top of the Inside Linbacker category, in fact, Street & Smiths had him #1.

Now, it is downright embarrasing  to have your #1 ILB go undrafted, and i believe #4 in the case ot TSN.

The cold reality is that both went undrafted, are too slow and uninstinctive to be NFL linebackers. If either of them breaks through and makes a roster as anything but a special teams player it would be remarkable.

I think Tim Dobbins of Iowa State got the same treatment, but at least he went in round 5!

You mean......Steal of the Undrafteds.

No. There is a reason he was not drafted by any of the teams over the course of 7 rounds. Good college player. Will be lucky to cling on to a practice squad spot.

I read somewhere that 20% of active NFL rosters are made up of UDFA. I don't know if this is true, but many make it every year.

I would believe that 20% would be an overestimate, however, I would presume that many of the UDFAs counted in that estimate would be the players that last 1-3 years in the league as special teamers/roster filler while they can be paid the ABSOLUTE league minimum.

UVA homer here. I really just can't grasp why Parham wasn't drafted. He was the #1 inside linebacker coming out of high school and supposedly ran in the 4.55 area coming out (we all know how much bull those high school times are but anyways). He absolutely dominated football games this year and looked great while doing it. I think he was 1st team all acc... the guy always looked like a really good athlete with speed and power. I think the 5.0 40 time was either a fluke (I know it happened at the combine and at UVA's pro day) or the guy just doesn't start well. I think he's going to be a player in the league, and yes, I do think he'll be the SOFA of the year.
