Jeff Webb maybe. Parker stinks. Herm said he liked Webb last preseason. But, they prob draft another WR this year.

D-Bo = God. No need for another WR. I wouldn't be surprised if they spent a 3rd-5th round on a WR. With the 'youth movement' I don't see them looking to a guy like Walker.

I don't see any WR1 types signing in KC, but I could see someone like Wilford signing here, and then getting a WR in the 3rd or 4th.
Realistically, they need at least 3 new WR to go with Bowe and Webb. Parker is a UFA and is as good as gone IMO. How they get those 3 WRs is anyone's guess, but I would imagine it will be 1 from the draft and 2 or even 3 FAs.

The Chiefs are intent on avoiding 30+ year old free agents. Ideally, they are looking for guys heading into their second contract, age 26-27. Additionally, they have mentioned looking for a big target who can go up and get the ball for opposite Bowe. That makes a guy like Bryant Johnson and to a lesser extent Bernard Berrian a prime target. Although they are not going to break the bank, they will be signing some FA WRs. After O-line, free agency is probably best used for the Chiefs on fixing their WR corps. The draft is where I would expect them to fix their other less pressing needs. It should be interesting to see if the stingy Peterson can adapt and pay out for youth and potential instead of occasionally paying out for past accomplishments of older veterans.

Chiefs not expected to go for older free agents
This year’s list of potential NFL free agents carries an enticing bounty for any team.
Imagine what it looks like to the Chiefs, who not only lost their final nine games last season and finished 4-12 but are armed with ample room under the salary cap.
They could load up with such veterans as Alan Faneca and Flozell Adams to help fix their broken offensive line, a wide receiver like Jerry Porter to complement Dwayne Bowe and a cornerback like Asante Samuel to replace Ty Law, who could soon be released.
Just don’t expect any of that to happen when the free-agent signing period begins Friday. The Chiefs appear prepared instead to pursue players who better fit their free-agent strategy which, to put it succinctly, is younger and cheaper.
“Age is a big factor for us in free agency,” Chiefs coach Herm Edwards said. “You’d like to get guys (heading into) their second contract and not their third contract, guys that have played three or four years and kind of established themselves. They might not be a starter but they’re about to be a starter, probably in a bad spot somewhere else because there’s a guy in front of him.
“Those are the guys we’re going after, the guys who are 26, 27.”
Law, Donnie Edwards, Damion McIntosh and Sammy Knight are a few of the veteran free agents signed by the Chiefs in recent years. Each was 30 or older by the time he played for the Chiefs.
“We’re not going down that road anymore,” Edwards said. “We’ve been down that road.”
That comment would seem to eliminate Adams (who is 32), Faneca (31) and Porter (he turns 30 in July). It leaves room only for the 27-year-old Samuel, who should command a premium contract since he’s generally considered the best available cornerback.
But another one of Edwards’ comments would seem to eliminate Samuel as well.
“We might have champagne tastes but we have beer money,” Edwards said. “We’re only going to spend a certain amount in free agency, which is a wise thing to do. You’re not going to handicap yourself (in future seasons). You don’t do that. We want to build this thing through the draft. We’re not going to live in free agency.”
Edwards also suggested the Chiefs might be bystanders during the early days of free agency, when the big money tends to be doled out.
“Those are always guys you pay too much money for,” he said. “You always (pay more) because you’re buying a guy’s name. It looks good in the paper. It looks good when you make the announcement. But at the end of the day, does the guy play up to the name? If they’re at a certain time in their career, I say they don’t.”
The Chiefs have 10 picks in this year’s draft, including extras in the fifth, sixth and seventh rounds. They haven’t had as many as 10 picks since 1994.
Having extra draft picks allows the Chiefs to be more selective in free agency.
“Maybe that means we only get two or three players in free agency,” Edwards said. “We don’t have to go after five guys. You really don’t want to do that. Once you establish your drafts and you have some good drafts back-to-back-to-back-to-back and you get your team (going in the right direction), you go out and get one or two guys in free agency and that’s it.”
In free agency, the Chiefs would like to obtain at least one offensive lineman as well as a cornerback and wide receiver.
The model for the Chiefs in free agency might be Alfonso Boone, who signed last year and immediately became their best defensive tackle in years.
Boone was unheralded when he signed, mostly because he was stuck behind premier players and was only an occasional starter for Chicago.
Potential free agents who fit his profile include Indianapolis guard Jake Scott, San Diego cornerback Drayton Florence and Arizona wide receiver Bryant Johnson.
Florence is 27, and Scott and Johnson are 26.

I also wonder if they are even interested in Donte Stallworth. He is a speed receiver, with much better hands than Parker. Bowe is their big target, and now they need someone to stretch the field.
FB is also a pressing need this offseason. I thought Boomer was going to solidify that position, but he played very sparingly last season, which may have been mainly due to injuries.
CB and OL are their most galring needs. I would have loved for them to take a look at Trufant, but unfortunately he got tagged by Sea. I am not sure what kind of OL FA's they will bring in, but Faneca could be "that" guy.

Don't get me wrong, I agree with the above. I would expect them to either find somebody to stretch the field or get a smaller, quicker receiver to complement. However, I read either Edwards or Peterson stating they wanted a big target who could go up and get the ball for opposite Bowe, and that unexpected statement really stuck with me. I just can't find it...

I remember reading that as well, but they do have Bobby Sippio (non-KC fans probably dont know who he is, unless they watched Hard Knocks on HBO). He is 6'3" so he is that big body if they allow him to play.

Rod Gardner was a big body too...If the Chiefs keep any WR other than Bose and Webb they are delusional. And I am not that high on Webb. I think his ceiling is that of a No. 3 or 4 WR.

I agree with you regarding Webb being a #3 or #4 WR, but the verdict is still out on Sippio. We didnt even get a chance to see what he can do. For whatever reason, Herm did not play him much at all. I would rather see what he has before he is dismissed. To be honest, it couldn't hurt at this point. Nevertheless, the Chefs NEED to bring someone in to play opposite of Bowe!!

I wonder if KC would consider bringing back TRich for a last year or two. He would be a great locker room guy with respect for tradition to be around the young guys.
He would certainly help in pass blocking too. I would think he would come fairly cheap at this stage of his career.

I thought that he was going to be the man in '08, until a friend of mine just called me. He was listening to Football guys podcast, and a reporter claimed that they Chefs are going to sign JP Losman and release Croyle!!! that is news to me

He is an above avg special teams player, but could not get in the rotation at LB. When he did play, he played ok. I am not sure why his PT was limited as much as it was.

I am seeing conflicting reports on Ty Law. The Boston Globe says he was cut 3/3. But I have not seen him on a the official NFL transactions report the Chiefs insider website still has him rostered.
Anyone know if he is still on the team (officially)? I know he was pegged to be released, just wondering if that ever actually happened. (I also know Kevin mentioned in this thread that he was released, but I have not seen that anywhere but here.)

But you are correct, he is still listed on the roster.....in fact, one site still had Bell listed as well. I do not know what to make of this, maybe I should drop Adam Teicher an email and see if he knows.
And while I am here, FWIW, the Chiefs today signed former Ravens WR Devard Darling to a 3-Year deal.

I noticed that before too . . . but I am not prepared to take the word of a player list on a website in the offseason (so I would be leary to call it official). There is still no record of him being cut anywhere (at least to my knowledge).ESPN lists him as released on their free agent tracker . . . but reports that he has not been in any transactions this year and that he was told at some point he would be cut. So again, no actual followthrough. He's not on ESPN's transaction report . . . or on the NFL's transaction report anywhere for that matter either.

Smith (6-4, 296) has worked primarily at tackle during his NFL career, but is expected to compete at center with Kansas City. He played in 14 games as a reserve offensive lineman and on special teams for the N.Y. Jets in 2007. He spent two seasons (2006-07) with the Jets, appearing in 23 contests. The sixth-year pro has seen action in 45 games, opening 18 contests at left tackle. Prior to joining the Jets, Smith spent three campaigns (2003-05) with Miami after entering the NFL as a third-round draft choice (78th overall) of the Dolphins in 2003.
Smith started all 16 games at left tackle for the Dolphins as a rookie, earning consensus all-rookie honors. He joined tackles Richmond Webb and Todd Wade as only the third rookie tackle in franchise history to open all 16 games. Smith spent the entire 2005 campaign on injured reserve with Miami after suffering a forearm injury in training camp. He attended camp with the Dolphins in 2006, but was released prior to the start of the regular season.
The Memphis product was a four-year letterman and two-year starter at left tackle for the Tigers. Smith was named second-team All-Conference USA as a senior. He led Lake Highland High School of Lake Highland, Texas to the regional title in ‘98.
