Keeper League rule question (1 Viewer)

Footballguy
So in my keeper league I am already playing for next season, and traded away most of my good players, which is clearly permitted by the rules. I would be perfectly happy losing out, as it would put me in better position next year, and everyone in the league knows this.

So here's the story-

My kickers are Jeff Reed (cut) and Mike Nugent (IR). I have no other kickers on my roster. Should I be permitted to take a zero at that spot, or should I be required to make a pickup to get a player for the rest of the season?

Our league currently has an "anti-tanking" rule requiring us to play our "best" lineup on a weekly basis. The rulebook is silent on an issue like this.

If you care about how others in the league think of you, you should just pick up a kicker and play him. It's not a big deal either way but I can guarantee someone will be pissed off if you just leave the position empty.

drop one of them for another kicker. Its not a big deal, only a kicker. You arent dropping Morton or Gary Anderson, youre dropping a guy who is teamless and a guy on the IR

If you purposely traded away all of your good players I wouldn't stop bitc*ing out now. Put Reed in your lineup the rest of the year.

This is why my league gives first pick to toilet bowl winner. Removes any motivation for people to tank.

I agree, if I am allowed to manage my roster and trade half my squad (mainly the guys that I can't keep), then why do I HAVE to pick someone up? I get that I can't throw games, but this is ridiculous. The Commish is saying that the rule saying I have to play my BEST lineup means that if I have a zero on my roster, I have to make a move. Seems a bit ridiculous to me.

Doesn't sound silent to me.Can't put your best lineup in every week if you deliberately fail to avail yourself of the wire.

Let's take Jeff Reed out of the picture, as he may sign somewhere.

Not picking up a replacement for Mike Nugent is essentially the same as cutting a ho-hum kicker to pick up Mike Nugent.

It's a loser move.
I don't quibble on the shadiness of the strategy. My question is this, if there is a QB out there on the wire MUCH better than what I have on my team, and I fail to put in a pickup for him, am I "not putting in my best lineup"?

It's a loser move. That is apparently what you aspire to be.

Your commish is right. You are the party being ridiculous.

What good is first place in the draft if you're booted from the league for being a loser?

Just sayin' is all.

So, you start a thread asking folks' opinions.

You never mention that this is already a contentious issue in your league.

When anybody takes the position that your admittedly shady strategy is not the best course of action, you get argumentative.

Seems almost as if you didn't come here for opinions, but rather for more ammo in your beef with your commish (which you failed to initially mention).

IMO, your commish's interpretation is correct.

Being a commish can truly be a thankless burden.

It's actions like yours that help make it that way.

You're not being excellent, dude. You're what's wrong with Fantasy Football. You're what's wrong with America.

There's still time to admit the error of your ways, and make that right.

Is Connor Barth available?

Ease up, buddy, just asking for opinions. No jeopardy of me being booted fom the league, we've been doing this for 15 years with the same owners. I raised the question to the league to get their views, and it is going to a vote. I'm not trying to pull a fast one by not picking up a kicker and then asking after the fact if I have to.

Don't be a #####. Just pick up some schmuck off the wire. Whoever the kicker is for the biggest underdog of the week or one of the guys with the lowest over/under total. Whatever. Don't be a #####.

ETA: It's a kicker. Just start one. What's the worst that could happen, he goes off and gets you 12 points? If you want to lose the rest of the way out, there are better opportunities to shave points than at kicker. CJ Spiller on the waiver wire? Start him every week. Just put in a kicker.

Don't do it. I had the exact same opportunity 2 years ago. I still regret it. It doesn't just affect you or the team you are playing, but other playoff races.

Same here. Tanking sucks. Of course it depends on the league but what the OP's considering doing would get him replaced in the offseason.NOTE: And "trading away his good players" is technically fine in our league if the trades are made for getting keeper value for next year. Failing to submit a valid starting lineup repeatedly though - get that #### out of here.
