is this guy going to be a top 5 2B this year?

in his first 10 games:

9 runs scored

2 HRs

1 SB

5 RBIs

yet he is only hitting .154

how can this man have stats that look so good yet be hitting so bad?

he has walked 9 times this year

so everytime he gets actually gets on base or a hit, he scores

he is also ATLs leadoff hitter

is he just getting lucky?

or is this someone that we should watch if he starts hitting at all?

thoughts?

Top 5? No.

But the Braves are doing well, and as long as he stays at or near the top of the lineup, he will put up respectable numbers. I'd expect .275 average, 20 homers, 60 rbi's, 10 steals....and 110 or so runs (he may be in the top 5 in the national league in that category).

This is his first year of playing 2nd, after moving from the OF. He's probably still getting acclimated to playing the infield and the time he doesn't spend in the cage, they're hitting fungos to him.

as of 5-3-07

Avg .323 HR 5 RBI 15 Runs 26 SB 3

stats seem like top 5 numbers

his OBP is .466, thats fifth best in the league with players with 50 or more at bats

he is third in the league in walks with 25

OPS is to 6 in the league at 1.058

his OBP goes up when there are either runners in scoring position or runners in scoring position with 2 outs

seems like he has found his groove

A reply to an old post, but I picked him up during that stretch because of his contact rate (CR = (AB-K)/AB) which was very high at the time in spite of his low averge. Generally, guys with a high CR, are going to boost their average.Tim over at RotoAuthority posts CR rankings periodically. Here is his most recent:

Also, Johnson is a walk machine, and at the top of that lineup with score gobs of runs.
