Kelvin Benjamin - WR - FSU [UPDATE PAGE 1, 7/3] (3 Viewers)

Rotoworld:

The Charlotte Observer reports Kelvin Benjamin reported to Panthers spring workouts "8-9 pounds overweight."

In the meantime, Benjamin has suffered injuries to both hamstrings, costing him almost all of OTAs. Benjamin practiced on Tuesday, but won't take part in Thursday's session due to a right hamstring strain. Benjamin played last season at 245 pounds, so he must've been in the mid-250s when OTAs started. Benjamin has some history of weight fluctuation; he was reportedly 20 pounds overweight when he originally showed up at Florida State, forcing the Seminoles to redshirt him as a freshman. On Wednesday, coach Ron Rivera suggested Benjamin's hamstring woes may have resulted from his poor conditioning.

Damn shame. These rookies come in, have a good season and think it will be cake the rest of the way. He will have a down year 2 if he doesn't "shape up". He is two burritos away from putting his hand in the ground.

Rotoworld:

Panthers GM Dave Gettleman described reports of Kelvin Benjamin reporting to offseason workouts 8-9 pounds overweight as, "much ado about nothing."

"Right now he's only five pounds off his playing weight," Gettleman said. "That's it." A bigger deal would've been Benjamin reporting to training camp in late July ten pounds overweight. Doing it in June allows Benjamin plenty of time to get his conditioning in check. Gettleman is right: It's not a big deal.

Interesting article but it is not a given that Kelvin makes the leap. Kelvin was already targeted a lot last year so it will probably go down to route running, his connection with Newton, IQ and less drops.

Most of us think of the Panthers as a run-run-run team.

Could it be that they are moving towards a more balanced, even pass-first offense?

Some of the indirect signs are adding up - no serious investment in the run game; serious investment in Cam; second rounder on Funchess. There may be more targets there than most of us think.

Kelvin Benjamin - WR - Panthers

Coach Ron Rivera said initial tests revealed a sprained left knee for Kelvin Benjamin.

Benjamin is headed for an MRI later today where the Panthers will learn more. Obviously we're not out of the woods here with Benjamin, and Rivera tends to always have an optimistic view toward injuries right after they happen. We'll provide another update later today when Benjamin's MRI results are revealed.

Sucks. KB had chance to prove all the doubters wrong again. And it looks like he won't get that chance. Won't mean they were right though.

I've never been a big fan of his but this sucks if he's out for the season. Really looking forward to the offense with Benjamin, Funchess, and Olsen.

Higher quality video.

Doesn't look good for him. The team downplaying it and not wanting to answer any "injury" questions doesn't make me feel any better either.

Bump Olsen.
I don't think they can answer questions because they likely have no answers. Speculation is pointless. They'll just wait a day, have the MRI, get the results and then answer questions.

I wouldn't bump anyone from this offense. Id downgrade them all.

W/o benjamin, See the jets from last year. This team has worse weapons on offense which is hard to believe.

2013: Steve Smith (when he looked done), LaFell

2015: Funchess, Corey Brown, Cotchery

Hate to see this. Cam and Stewart values take a hit.
who was the elite WR in carolina in 2013 when cam was a top 5 QB? steve smith only did 64-745 that year, it sucks but if cam is healthy and can run... cam will be cam (reliable mid to high end qb1)

the KB injury just sucks, he was setup for a huge sophomore season

Not only it hurts my fantasy team, but it hurts the NFL as Benjamin is one of the rising stars in this league.

Sad and disappointing... :(

Bumping this thread because I didn't see another. Is Benjamin a good buy low? Seems like it to me. What does everyone think?

WR17 and WR18 taken in the FBG Winter Survivor Leagues. Selected at 2.9 in both leagues (16 teams).

I have him in a dyno league and would not sell him cheap. If you can buy low, DO IT. He'll probably take some of Olsen's and Cam's rushing TDs away from them.
