I am doing some spring cleaning, and ran into some k-cups that are past their 'eligibility.' Does this matter? I am not a coffee drinker, so I can't just brew a cup and test.

You can cut the top off the new one and tape it to the top of the old one and it will work

No, they have an expiration date, I'm 6 months or so past some decaf that I buy for my mother, nand if they're dead, I need to know to buy new ones before a visit.

They are extremely wasteful and very destructive to the environment.  Please, use the refillable / reusable cups.

Try it. If anything, the expired date would just mean it loses flavor. So make it and, if it sucks, pour it down the drain. Nothing to lose really.
