Kevin Jones UNDERVALUED (1 Viewer)

I just don't get it....Kevin Jones has been falling very very late in many of my drafts including keeper leagues while top back ups like Betts, Turner, etc go earlier...

K Jones is going to be the starter once healthy which will be at latest mid way this season.

He is a great catch passing RB in Martz's system.

Why do people draft backups, waiting for starting RBs to get hurt when they have Jones sitting there who will be starting at least half of his games?

I'm guessing its the whole coming off a major injury thing.

Personally, I think KJ is value as a RB3 or RB4 in PPR leagues.

I was skeptical of this statement so I checked the numbers. I was quite wrong to be skeptical. 61 catches for 520 yards and 2 TDs in just 12 games last year. Thats 5 catches for 44 yards per game. Very nice receiving numbers for a RB.You might be onto something withthis "undervalued" notion. He may prove to be a nice bargain that pays off right when you need it most.

Exactly. As a #4 RB he could have great value.

I am happy to have the Bell/Jones combo as my #3 rb. Jones was beginning to really worry me, but it seems like he is progressing better than expected.

There been a ton of discussion and disagreement about the DET situation. When the news broke that KJ was going on the PUP, I argued that Bell was not the savvy shark pick at his then current ADP; while other staff (including Joe and David) feel quite differently. I do think if Jones went on the PUP, T.J. Duckett becomes an intriguing last round flier in 20+ round drafts; because he's an excellent short yardage back.

But now with the news hinting that KJ may NOT go on the PUP, I think it just further emphasizes my point that Tatum Bell is really not a smart pick in the 5th or 6th round.

People need to ask themselves this question: If Tatum Bell was so capable of carrying the load and playing at a high level, why on Earth would the Lions even hesitate to keep KJ on the PUP?

This is becoming a VERY interesting situation. I'll have to check / hear the latest draft ADP for KJ, but picking him up and stowing him away for the later part of the year could secure a championship, especially in bigger contests. Having a super-dominant team come December will make or break many teams in postseason play, so you need to account for that. Assume you make the playoffs because shooting for anything less is NOT your goal.

I completely agree. When he played last year, he was one of the top RBs in the entire league under PPR! People are playing up the injury thing and completely missing the point. If you draft a mediocre fill-in RB for the first 4 or so games of the season, and then swap in Kevin Jones once he starts, you'll have a stud for the fantasy playoffs and a LOT of points racked up this season. He's a great RB3 and you can get him for RB5 prices!

He suited up for 12 games but for all intents and purposes he played 11 games since he got hurt very early in the Arizona game before he even caught a pass. Take his numbers from his 11 games and it projects to exactly what Reggie Bush did last year which is 88 catches. There is no escaping his current injury or his injury past which has to drop his value but the truth is had he not got hurt last year he'd be a top 5 pick in PPR leagues and a top 10 pick in all others. I had both KJ and Gore in my WCOFF league last year, which is PPR, and before he got hurt I went into each week feeling KJ was my number one RB and Gore was my #2. I'll say what I really respect about KJ is he made himself into a good pass receiver. When Martz took over he worked all summer last year on learning to catch the ball and when he ran he ran hard. I like everything about the guy, I just wish I had more confidence in his health.

Actually, if you project his stats for the first 9 games (high ankle sprain against AZ in week 11) he would have been the 4th best RB in a NON-PPR league. If you add 90 rec to the total he is a pretty darn good back when healthy.I have him as my RB6 behind Westy, Henry, ADP, Foster, Lendale in a 10-team redraft, and my RB5 behind SJax, Henry, Green, Foster in a 12-team keep 4 league. Even if he doesn't play a down I'll be alright. If he comes back healthy I'll be in a great position to be making moves later.

NFL.com is reporting he has been removed from the PUP list.

"The Detroit Lions removed running back Kevin Jones from the physically unable to perform list Saturday, beginning a day-to-day timetable for his return to the field.

Kevin Jones is off of my draft board. Even if he starts, there will be a committee going on. Plus he is coming off a lis franc sprain, an injury that can ruin a career. Just ask Duce Staley.

Hey "Brian", Didn't you have a lis franc injury in recent years? You seem to be back playing pretty well.

Why is Duce Staley a better person to ask about that type injury then you?

Well Brian did not require surgery, while Kevin did. That is all the difference in the world. Usually when a RB gets that surgery done, their career is over.

Warrick Dunn disagrees...and he had the same serious injury that KJ had.

If I remember correctly, Warrick Dunn also opted not to go for the surgery.

You do not remember correctly. Dunn had surgery.
