Kevin Smith (1 Viewer)

I'm considering benching Smith in favor of Tashard Choice vs the Chiefs. Anyone else thinking along the same lines? If so, who are you going to put in the lineup in lieu of Smith. I've looked at the stats of all the Steelers games and they are just so damn stingy with giving up yards to opposing backs. Plus, I'm not sure how healthy Smith is. Although he picked up a pair of TD's last week, he didn't look all that impressive.

I have the same decision in my league (Smith or Choice) Right now I'm going with Smith bc I'm unsure how the carries will shake out in Dal.

I am benching him for Moreno and Mendenhall. Also have ADP in the lineup. I benched him last week for D Brown but luckily still won. When I face a tough decision I usually go with whoever is healthier.

I going to start him in my flex over some WR2 types.

I'm thinking this game will go 1 of 2 ways. Either the Steelrs blow the Lions out & Smith gets a decent amount of garbage yards on draws & short passes or if the Steelers D continues to be soft, we could see a relatively high scoring game (mid 40s range) and Smith should get some goaline looks.

Looking for about 80yds & 1TD from combined rushing & receiving.

If the Lions are behind why would they be running draws and short passes? Typically teams that are behind will throw the ball.

He was also only decent last week because of his two short yardage TDs. He was taken out of the game in passing situations so he wouldn't have to block on his injured shoulder. The rest of his 15 carries went for under 30 yards total.

He may be role-limited again this week against a fantastic Steeler defense. Absolutely benching him unless you have absolutely no other choice.

I don't really buy this reasoning either, but he's saying that if the Steelers get up early like they did on San Diego and they play two deep prevent defense, then you run draws and short routes against a soft middle.Kevin Smith catches well, so he would stay involved, but he came out last week on passing downs because of his shoulder injury, so this line of reasoning is actually a negative in my opinion.

yup - I didn't regret benching him last week and I won't this week. You can't predict those 2 GL TD's.....benching him for MBarber, RRice and Jerome Harrison in the flex.

Good Topic b/c Smith has been kind to owners thus far. Watching all of the Lions games thus far is it really seems as if he is involved heavily and they need to keep working him - no matter what his stats are - to make other things work in the pass game. In the 1st half of the Chicago game that formula was working and that is what gave him his TD opportunities. I guess what I am saying is that I find his play allot more impressive than what the stats say and those 2 TD's seemed like no fluke to me. With that said .....I am in the same situation as the OP. I am debating Choice as well. I also have D. Brown and R. Williams. I am thinking that most people having to debate K. Smith this week are looking at similar type players and I am just not sure they will all get the guaranteed looks we know Smith will get no matter what the score is. Calvin and Pettigew seem like the key Lion plays this week. Going to miss Stafford though..... that kid is going to be good for Fantasy teams one day (imho).

never bench Kevin Smith.the guy was ghurt last week, still reeled off 2 tds.especially without CJ he's all they have !!

In a PPR - I wouldn't necessarily bench him. He may get a lot of dump-offs in garbage time. If it's a blowout, I don't see Pitt blitzing a ton, so his shoulder will be fine with less blocking.

I'm also on the fence, I will be starting Mendenhall vs the Lions.

Choosing between:

Ronnie Brown vs stingy Jets Def

K. Smith vs Pitt Def

C. Benson vs Baltimore

I wish any one of these were against a reasonable defense, heck they are all a tough matchup!

My useless $.02 - I gotta tell ya, after watching his games thus far I really feel like that is the stance I should take. The fact that the game is at home makes it even more interesting. CJ is playing though.

This is the way I've been leaning as well, of course I said a week or so ago that I was starting Cedric Benson moving forward as well. with Mendenhall tearing it up last week and going against the Lions, he seems to be a must start also.If Culpepper plays, does this change your opinion?

At this point I believe Culpepper will get the start so no, it does not affect my opinion - As long as CJ is starting. I am definitely not starting K. Smith if CJ is out. I would need it explained to me how it would be nothing but devastating to Kevin Smith even if he was the only real option with CJ out.

(Rotoworld) Kevin Smith (shoulder) has resumed practicing without restrictions.
Right now Kevin Smith is on my bench for Marshawn Lynch, Fred Jackson, and Joseph Addai.Smith has been a great play so far so I'm second guessing it now. If he's healthy and ready to go after Friday's practice I'll probably bench Jackson.

In a PPR league I'm trying to decide between Kevin Smith and A. Bradshaw. Bradshaw has a sweet matchup @OAK in a game where Eli is a bit banged up...should mean more runs. Still, hard to sit Smith who gets all the RB touches vs Bradshaw.

Thoughts?

Dump offs when the downfield stuff is covered & draws trying to catch the Steelers playing deep coverage.

I have to ride with him. No one else(M.Bush, S. Morris, FWP, Sproles, Felix, Chester T). Starting him alongside ADP, so hope it doesn't hurt too much. I reluctantly started him vs MINN and he surprised. It may not be pretty, but the guy finda a way to take care of you every week by remaining active for 60 minutes.

I agree with this. It seems that no matter what the situation is, because he's on the field so much, he's gonna get his points. He's not flashy in any way, but very steady. And I love his attitude. He's a special player, real and fantasy

I could see a case for playing Chester. Unless Minnesota basically doesn't bother to show up, their game in St. Louis should be effectively over by halftime. Why expose Peterson any more than necessary? I consider Chester a good candidate for at least 15 carries this week, which against the Rams could be enough for a solid fantasy start.

Non PPR, start 2-rbs...

I have ADP, K.Smith, C.Benson, Caddy, & Chester Taylor....

As of right now, i am seriously considering running out ADP AND C.Taylor against the Rams.

K.Smith vs. Pitt

C.Benson vs. Balt.

Caddy vs. Philly

ADP and C.Taylor vs. Rams

If I chicken out, it STILL won't be K.Smith that i'll be starting along side ADP.

how about some contributions that go into why you're sitting him and not just names of the people you're sitting him for?? we could definitely make this thread a bit more worthwhile. thanks to those of you who took the time to explain. your input is appreciated.

Starting him with confidence.

He will start and one of these will sit...Bradshaw, J. Harrison, Caddy.

Reasoning...as others have mentioned...there is virtually no competition for carries. Even coming back from injury he got a decent amount of carries and scored twice. He has been practicing. He is involved in the passing game as well, so if they get down, he will still be out there.

Should post good enough rushing and receiving numbers and a good possibility of a score.

Benching him behind Coffee, Highsmith, and FJackson.

I see him under 60 yards combined offense and no score. If FJackson didn't have such a cushy matchup I would have played KSmith.

"because he plays Pittsburgh"

The more I read this thread the more confused I become.

Right now, being Friday night I am leaning starting smith.

I think the defense with out Troy Palo is suspect. Cedric Benson ran 76 yds and a TD on their defense in week 2. This is a home game for Detroit and Smith ran well against a #1 Minn. defense. I feel with Detroit might surprise an unsuspecting Pitt team even with Daunte at the helm. If CJ is healthy I think Smith will work his numbers based on the sheer time he has against the Pitt Defense. Remember, this cat ran for 450 runs in his SR. season in at UCF. He has heart and will show it. Sorry, but I can't sit him for Tashard. It might bite me in the A#@, but I like what I see with my boy. Detroit Homers, please chime in! :)

He's in my lineup right now, but if Addai doesn't play it may push me off the fence and I will start Donald Brown over him. If I do that, I'm also going to drop McMichael and add Pettigrew. Don't want to start Smith and Pettigrew in case PIT shuts them completely down.

While Smith didn't exactly light it up, he proved he could be a somewhat reliable weekly option regardless of the competition..

I don't recall exactly what his totals were, but I think it was something like 53yds rushing & 5 catches for 42yds receiving.

Thats 14 points in a standard PPR league.
