Johnson not interested in Green Bay

The Green Bay Packers are somewhat interested in free agent receiver Keyshawn Johnson, but the veteran doesn’t appear at all interested in Green Bay.

According to a Sports Illustrated report, Johnson has narrowed his choices to the Tennessee Titans, Oakland Raiders, or retirement, which also means a career in television. Johnson served as an analyst with ESPN during its coverage of the April 28-29 NFL draft.

The report also says Johnson, who was released by Carolina last week, is reluctant to play in Green Bay. If is unable to land the kind of contract he is seeking, he says he will walk away from the game.

Johnson, 34, has averaged 70 catches in each of the last three seasons. He feels he can play two or three more seasons, but apparently not in Green Bay.

What do you mean BF? Oakland is going to be a force next year. Any props showing odds on who wins more games, the Patriots or the Raiders? Maybe I'd only have to put down a C note to become a millionaire. ;)

How about you just give me the hundred dollars and I'll place the bet for you in Vegas. Honest.

I think retirement.

Key is not going to get the kind of money he thinks he should.

Another professional athlete who you hate because...let me guess...he runs is mouth and is colorful which takes away from your fun somehow. :bag:
Speaking only for myself, I don't hate Keyshawn at all. Yes, he has a big mouth, but he's done things off the field that he doesn't get much credit for. Just google it, because I'm too drunk and lazy to do it right now.Anyway, I can't understand why KJ would rule out GB. They want to win NOW, while Favre is still there. Oakland? They will be competitive with that defense but their offense is still a huge question mark. In a year or three they will be a contender, but Keyshawn will be long gone by then. Tennessee? They're at least two seasons from being a playoff threat.

I agree, Green Bay >> Oakland for everything except the weather.Tennessee however, with Keyshawn, could make a playoff push if their key players stay healthy.

Thought he wanted to go somewhere where he could help a team win another Superbowl?
My first thought too when I saw the story. "I want to go to a super bowl contender........or any team that will pay me".

I think the best fit would be Tenn, but they wont pay him a ton.

Oakland is interesting, not that BMW had any value anyway, but that would pretty much put a fork in him.

Why would you even consider Oakland?
Because he is based in California and his kids are there.
Yep. I wonder if he'd be any help to a guy like Mike Williams. He's either been a really good guy on the team, or a really bad guy on the team.I'm on the fence with this one. Right now, the Raiders best posession guy is Curry. And he's done a great job, but his durability will always be an issue. With a team with a new offense, new QB, new line coach, and youth everywhere, he might be a ncie security blanket.

Titans can overpay him in a 1 or 2 year deal, and could definitely use his mentorship of their bevy of young guys.
3 Mill a year over two years - dress it up as a 4 year deal for 18 mill, 3 mill signing bonus, low base 2007, higher 2008, say 6M base in each 2009/10. Maybe add some performance bonuses in 2007 and 2008 to pump to potential total amount up a bit or void the final years. Would that not be doable?

The first thought I had when I saw Tennessee and Oakland was there was a USC connection in both places.
...and that they are both warm wether places...and that they are not Green Bay. When was the last time someone specifically WANTED to play in GB? And once Favre is gone, it will be even less attractive.

This seems like the ideal fit, to me.
:goodposting: I agree.Oh and BTW, the Titans did make a playoff push last year. 8-8 is only a two game improvement away from making the playoffs. Do I think they're SuperBowl contenders? No. But they certainly don't suck, and they're heading back in the right direction.

Reggie White - but didn't God tell him to go there?

That was with Pacman though...Still, compared to Oak they seem to be in a completely different tier

I also read somewhere that Seattle may be interested. That is not a bad fit. Key is a big WR who can block. He offers a different set of skills then most of the current Seattle WRs -- and it is on the West Coast.

With that said, I can't see Seattle paying him a ton to play.

Career in television? :) For the love of God, someone pay the man to keep him off my TV set in a speaking role! We finally just got rid of the prima donna Michael Irvin.

According to Total Access last night, Holmgren talked to him, but Seattle was NOT interested.

FWIW There's a rumor on NFL.com or Sportsline that Minny is also on his list now.

Meshawn said something along the lines of that he would love to play with Favre but not to be part of the rebuilding process after Favre retires. By the time the young guys are winning he'll be retired and going out on a losing note.

(Rodgers doesn't instill confidence in anyone I guess)

I heard that on WFAN IIRC

Also FWIW When Meshawn was in NY he hated the cold, I mean really hated the cold. I wouldn't be surprised if he's looking at avg temperatures where team's play.

FYI, if the Titans won their final game vs. NE, they are in the playoffs...But I think they are interested in MeShawn if he comes at a discount...otherwise, they would have jumped all over him. Now that stance may be changing a little with the news that Givens is out for a large part of '07...

Interesting, but neither Kiffin nor Chow were at USC when Keyshawn was, were they?

Eh, the thing I love about this league is how much things can change from year to year. I think the Titans will do well this year (make a playoff push again), but I really think the Raiders are going to surprise. Obviously they have a ton of talent on the defensive side of the ball. They have a fair amount of offensive tools now if Jordan and/or Bush get healthy and Porter gets his head on straight (and surprisingly, by all accounts this seems to be the case). More importantly, they have hope with a new young coach and a franchise QB.

Just saying.

Agreed, they could be the Tenn of last year. Their defense is top notch.

:stalker: No one in Nashville is changing their stance on the givens "news." 80%+ chance Givens is done for good as a WR, and the Titans know it, and have known it for a little while now.

Keyshawn is a prima donna, but he is MUCH better than Irvin if they want a fairly recent player on the show.

Fisher: Titans, Keyshawn have interest in each other

By Terry McCormick, tmccormick@nashvillecitypaper.com

May 17, 2007

Tennessee Titans coach Jeff Fisher acknowledged after Thursday’s mini-camp practice that the team and wide receiver Keyshawn Johnson have mutual interest in each other.

Johnson’s agent, Jerome Stanley, would neither confirm nor deny in Thursday’s edition that the 34-year-old receiver has a visit to the Titans lined up, though there were indications of interest by Tennessee in Johnson. He also declined to address any contract negotiations that may or may not have taken place between the two sides.

“There’s mutual interest right now I’d say on both parties’ part. I think we’ll probably look into the possibility of pursuing things. Where that goes, I can’t tell you,” Fisher said.

So much for wanting to go out a champion...

When your own team deactivates you midseason, you've done a leeeetle more than just run your mouth.

True, but in all honesty, if Keyshawn signed with Tennessee, a winning season wouldn't be a surprise. No Super Bowl run, and not "champion", but he'd be viewed as a player who made a significant impact.

Keyshawn said on national TV that he wasn't going to play for the Cowboys either. If the past is any indication, this means he'll go to Green Bay for 2 years.

No, Wood. What I was suggesting is that noone could forsee the '99 Rams going from 4-12 the previous season to Superbowl Champ the next. And for anyone to say a particular team does not have a shot before the season starts is a bit narrow...

Now if you take this thought to the Titans specifically...their youth and talent at a bevy of positions...you have a dual-edged, sword, of course.
