Kickoff from 35...how does it affect Fantasy Scoring?

Here's my first thoughts, none really in any specific order:

1. D/ST with return yards >> lowers value.

One of the things with 'bad' defenses is they get points docked for points against, but then have more kickoff return opportunities to mitigate those lost points. One of my leagues gives 1 point for return yards (so effectively 1 point for every kickoff return minimum). That would change.

2. Players receiving points for kickoff return yards >> lowers value of fringe WR/RB who also got points for returns

3. Lengthens typical offensive drive

[*]more opportunity for QB/RB/WR/TE yards/catches

[*]fewer TDs?

[*]more FGs?

I would be interested in tracking the average offensive points scored, average length of a drive, and total points scored on FGs by year. Anyone know where to find that data (and when the switch was made to move back to the 30 yardline?)

Personally, it effects 3-4 players on my dynasty roster, I drafted them with the bonus of PR/KR points in mind. But, for some reason, the NFL and owners never even asked my opinion before they changed the rule??? What's up with that?

in my two leagues it only will reduce value of a couple Def/ST ratings due to less kick return tds. However, there are still punts and short kicks, so its only minimal. We dont use return yards for anything.

As far as the NFL, it saves owners money since kickoff specialists and kick returners wont need to be paid. Punt returners still will have value.

While the kicks are starting 5 yards closer, the fact the coverage team can no longer get a running 15yd headstart will give returners more breathing room. However against teams with kickoff specialists or strong legged kickers, I'm sure the percentage of touchbacks will increas, but IMO kicks that are actually fielded will have a chance on average to be returned further.

Guess we'll all be watching closely in preseason to see how these rule changes pan out. My guess is there will be alot of offsides calls on the coverage teams for trying to get that running headstart they're used to.

They haven't lowered the amount of players they need on the roster. So teams that paid for a kickoff specialist will just get another player on the team, whether it's a WR or LB. They still have to pay them so I don't think it saves anything really.You may see more impromptu onside kicks since field position won't hurt you quite as much.

No but my point is they arent paying a premium for a KR or a 2nd kicker to take the kicks. That money can be used elsewhere in improving depth, retaining elite players, etc.
