So we are sitting in the garage hanging out as a family, so one of the kids wanted to play fort in the back of the wife's suburban. So I back the car in the driveway, lift the hatch, and the kids are in there with blankets, pillows, etc....making a fort.

They thought it would be cool to let the dog in there, so the yellow lab jumps up there and hangs out. Cool.

About 10 minutes later my 11 yo comes out of the car and hangs up the dog brush on the hook where it belongs.

Wife: Did you just brush the dog in the back of my car?

Son: Yeah.

Wife: What in the heck are you thinking?

Son: 

Me looking at Wife: WTF?

Kids....sheesh.....

Why do you hang out in your garage?

It's pretty cool actually. TV to watch the ballgame, cold beer in the fridge, looks out over the yard where the kids play. Neighbors come over and hang out. Come on by - I'll have a cold beer for you.

 because the garage is a great place that once upon a time in america people used to go for reasons they could not even fathom they would turn up at the end of the driveway not even knowing for sure why they were doing it as innocent as children longing to learn from dad how to fix the car and dad would not mind he would say sure i dont mind if you poke around under the hood just run to the store and pick up some 10 weight 30 and the kids would go and pass over there money without even thinking about it because it was money they had and 10 weight they lacked and they walked over by the garage fridge grabbed an a beer and sat on there reserved seat on the stoop in shirtsleeves on a perfect afternoon and they watched dad slap on a new radiator while he drank cheap beer smoked a stogie and listened to the brewers on am radio and it was as if they had been dipped in magic waters mixed with green coolant and the memories of it are still so thick for me that i damned near have to brush them away from my face and the the one constant through all the years shamwowprize has been the garage america has marched on like an army of  steamrollers and erased our neighborhoods like a blackboard again and again but the garage shamwow its a part of our past it reminds us of what was once good and what can be again and frankly that guys like you have forgotten that is a big part of whats wrong with america so spend a little time out there like the ole chief he gets it take that to the bank brohans
