The Studio that brought us Pacific Rim and Godzilla reveled their newest project. It will be a brand new King Kong movie and will take place on and be about Skull Island. I am really pumped for this. My son and I read the book Kong: King of Skull Island which was a sequel to the original 1933 film. The entire story did take place on Skull Island. It was Carl Denhams son who returned to Skull Island 25 years after Kong's rampage in NY in 1933 and it was a series of flash backs to how Kong came to power (the novel was authorized by the Copper estate). Really cool book. I don't think this new movie will have anything to do with it (not sure to be honest). But I love the idea of having the entire movie about Kong and his reign on Skull Island. My kid loves King Kong big time and this should be great for him. He loves Peter Jackson's version of course. But he also really enjoys the 1933 original as well as the campy but highly underrated 1976 version with Jessica Lange, Charles Grodin and Jeff Bridges. I remember seeing the 76 version as a young 6 year old in the theater with my dad. There was a huge card board cut out of King Kong around the marquee of the theater (it was the Normandy movie theater on 81st and collins ave for any Miami beach natives here who can remember that one) of him standing on top of the World Trade Center. It was epic as a kid. I remember waiting on line opening night, the line wrapped around the block. Great times.

This may lead to a reboot of King Kong vs Godzilla.
