Kitna to Dallas? (1 Viewer)

Lions beat writer Tom Kowalski speculates that Jon Kitna could be on the trade block. The trade deadline is Tuesday at 4PM ET. Kowalski speculates that Kitna could be part of a deal with Dallas, which has lost Tony Romo for a month due to a broken pinkie finger. Kitna's back injury isn't thought to be serious, but it also seems unlikely that he'd be able to help Dallas right away. Source: MLive.com

doubt it. it would take him a couple of weeks to learn their system and Romo will be back.

It's a 3 game fill in for Johnson (4th week is a bye) and then Romo is back. I just do not see any trade for a QB happening.

this would be stupid. captn caveman wouldnt learn the system before Romo gets back. Johnson looked decent in pre-season. time for dink and dunk with BJ!

Injuries, turnovers and poor decision-making - the Cowboys' offense won't miss a beat with Kitna.
compare the QB's with more than 200 pass attempts. Romo is pretty darn good statistically. too many turnovers, yes, but not all his fault. comparing captn. caveman to Romo is laughable.

TK was speculating on this b/c the Presser with Rod Marinelli and then later Martin Mayhew (interim GM) was very odd. The subject of Kitna was danced around and around. My impression: either Kitnas injury is way worse, he's the subject of trade talks, or Kitna is being benched permanently .

TK was speculating that Dallas is a viable trade partner. I disagree. I think he's more likely to be traded to Cincy (if Palmer's elbow is done - Kitna knows the team etc... OR to New England)

Stop with the trade for a QB if it was a for the season Romo was out then yeah but it is 3 games. I would not be surprised if they try to get Romo back for the Giant game before the bye. At worse he is back after the bye. Either way Dallas is in trouble but a trade is just crazy talk.

Almost certain that's it.

Kitna to New England makes much more sense IMO than Dallas. Maybe for a 7th? Or what overpriced veteran does NE have that Detroit would want?

No way Cincy would be a possible target. How does an old fart like Kitna help the Bungles position themselves for the #1 overall pick in April? Oh yeah, it's the Bungles....

Yeah, this trade makes sense. Let's trade for an injured QB who probably won't even be able to play for us until Romo is healthy again.

Why would Dallas want a crappy, injured QB that doesn't know the offense?Let's use some common sense here.
They will stick with Johnson and Bollinger, with Isaiah Stanback maybe getting a few reps at QB in practice. If there are any other QB injuries in the next 3 weeks, then the team would likely re-sign Richard Bartel (who was cut in preseason). It's just 3 games. The team will find a way to get by without making a trade.

While a source said yesterday that the Niners were not interested in trading for Lions quarterback Jon Kitna, another source said offensive coordinator Mike Martz is still trying to convince team officials to make a pitch for Kitna.

The Lions have already decided that Kitna will go on the injured reserve list, but nothing has been done officially yet. The Lions could be waiting to see if there's going to be any last-minute trade action prior to today's 4 p.m. trade deadline.

Interesting development. If SF trades for Kitna, he could return to putting up Martz type numbers for SF relatively quickly IMO

Not likely they would trade for him. They're saying Det. will IR Kitna and then release him once he's healthy. If true, and you (other teams) know that's possible, why trade for him when you can get him for nothing. Another possibility could be that they get Kitna in a package deal with Roy Williams. <- just speculating/throwing out a thought.

Roy and Kitna wouldn't be a bad pickup for the niners at all. They better not screw themselves again like they did in their trade with the Pats though.

Would Kitna become the starter in 9er land, or would JTO continue in the role with Kitna backing him up?

Can someone explain to me how a guy will either get placed on IR or get traded? If the back injury is serious enough to land Kitna on the IR, how can the 49ers, or any other team for that matter, make a play for him?

Sounds like Martz isn't all that happy with JTO, but his other options are no better.

It's the Lions way of moving on. Sounds like they're done with him and giving him the "respect" of not benching him outright.ETA: I used "sounds like" in 2 posts. Sounds like I need a different phrase.

Once you're on IR, the team can make an injury settlement with you, allowing you to become a free agent. However, I'm not sure how this is an advantage over trading Kitna for a 7th round pick.

a "line that can at least come close to pass and run blocking" is underrated nowadays as well. Kitna would have a much better shot in SF than Det.

Actually, it's a blog post stating that the Lions decided to place him on IR, and will officially do so later today.Though unlikely, could be a ploy.

He's not on IR yet.

Though rare, players have gone from IR to the wire to playing for another team in the same season. Many fantasy league rules assume this is not possible. Not a big deal. Not likely here. But these things happen.
