If only they were a better team with a better OL, WR, QB and DEF.KJ's first run was very impressive. He ran for 34yds and more importantly, made 2 sharp cuts in both directions, planting on both knees. Very small window but very encouraging for those of us that hung on to him in dynasty.![]()

Really? Kruetz, Garza and Tait and they're the worst line in the league? Does St. Clair really drag them that far down?Chicago has the worst OLine in the league.
Too early to tell. Forte looked the best 2nite. Jones had the one nice run, but he's got a bit of rust to knock off before being any sort of threat. How does this affect Forte's value - if it does?
Bears homer here.Forte did NOT look good. Our pass blocking was superb, but the run blocking left more to be desired.Too early to tell. Forte looked the best 2nite. Results aside, I think the thing to look at here is that KJ played and showed himself to be healthier than anyone could have imagined (at this point).Who knows what the future holds for him, but the fact he was back on the field has to be looked at as a positive.Keep in mind this was a preseason game against SF - one of the worst teams last year and only showing vanilla defensive schemes.
Yeah, I thought Forte had one really nice run up the middle --- when he had a WIDE open hole. Otherwise, he looked much like Cedric Benson, falling into the line for 1-2 yards each time.Bears homer here.Forte did NOT look good. Our pass blocking was superb, but the run blocking left more to be desired.Too early to tell. Preseason stats by themselves don't mean a whole lot. I did not see KJ's run, so I can't comment, but the way he ran and cut is a lot more important than the end result. Considering he tore his ACL only about 9 months ago, it's amazing he is cutting at all. While he has had several injuries, he is also getting a reputation for arguably being the fastest healer in the league. Results aside, I think the thing to look at here is that KJ played and showed himself to be healthier than anyone could have imagined (at this point).Who knows what the future holds for him, but the fact he was back on the field has to be looked at as a positive.Keep in mind this was a preseason game against SF - one of the worst teams last year and only showing vanilla defensive schemes.
the run that caused me to perk up was where he stuck his foot in the ground, made a cut, then cut back. i immediately thought to myself "the knee must not be too bad if he's making sharp cuts like that". time will tell, but he certainly caught my attention last night...Results aside, I think the thing to look at here is that KJ played and showed himself to be healthier than anyone could have imagined (at this point).Who knows what the future holds for him, but the fact he was back on the field has to be looked at as a positive.Keep in mind this was a preseason game against SF - one of the worst teams last year and only showing vanilla defensive schemes.
Anyone that thinks he will be a non factor is fooling themselves. If KJ is running this well 2 weeks before the season how well do you think he will be during the FF playoffs come week 14? Im betting he gets more than enough carries late in the year to really put a dent in forte owners come playoff time.Does anyone still think KJ starts out on the PUP? He look great given where people thought he would be because of the injury. And Detroit Front office again(still) look like the Clowns of the league.......
The key to this is that he was able to make 2 sharp hard cuts, one on each leg. Is he all the way back? NO, but look for Forte to be the opening day starter and KJ to be worked in and then take over later in the year as odds are Forte will hit the rookie wall. I believe a healthy Jones is more talented than Forte, plus he has the experience.Problem is will the Bear offense generate enough to make them worthy.I gotta see more before I say he's back. I think the 30+ run had more to do with SF's lousy tackling than KJ's cutting.
As I understand it in order to be activated for last night's game he first had to be removed from the PUP list, once removed from the PUP list you cannot return...if that's the case then he will not be on the PUP to start the season.Does anyone still think KJ starts out on the PUP?
If that defense doesn't tackle better in the regular season they better. The key to this is that he was able to make 2 sharp hard cuts, one on each leg. Is he all the way back? KJ will get hurt during his sleep on week 4 and will miss the reminder of the season , you cant count on him even if he looked good.
Yes, and slow.Did anyone else think KJ looked a bit on the heavy side?
That's the point, his first run had a GREAT cut. My 11 year old son even commented what a awesome cut he made to get up field. Not only did KJ show that he can cut, he ran with determination. He bounced off tacklers like the were padded dummies. On one play, the DL got into the back field and basically hit him right after he got the handoff...you did a spin while bouncing off them to basically get back to the line of scrimmage where he got wrapped up by other defenders. That play was impressive not in the stats, but his reaction and his confidence in his knee. Instead of it being 6 loss, he made something out of a played doomed from the word "go."Preseason stats by themselves don't mean a whole lot. I think you very might have hit the nail on the head here. They looked awful and didn't give any real glimpse that they could be better. If had or counted on a CHI RB this year, I might very be scared. Looks like if the RB can't do something on their own...not much is going happen because little to no support in the trenches.Chicago has the worst OLine in the league. These unit are better than Detroit's.If only they were a better team with a better OL, WR, QB and DEF.KJ's first run was very impressive. You could also say he is one of the hardest workers in the league -- this guy busts his butt to get back on the field. Clearly he's got heart.Preseason stats by themselves don't mean a whole lot. Yes...really.Or did you miss last season when they ranked dead last in ypc and gave up 43 sacks (ranked 24th in the league in that stat).So...maybe not "the worst"...but pretty terrible.Really? Kruetz, Garza and Tait and they're the worst line in the league? Does St. Clair really drag them that far down?Chicago has the worst OLine in the league.
While I did see 2-3 runs he made for little gain, he looked better than is being portrayed here, IMO. On those runs where he was not met at the line of scrimmage he had good elusiveness and acceleration. One run in the red zone may have been a TD from about 15 yards out but he slipped. He had 11 carries for 44 yds. All in all I thought he looked good.KJ isn't all the way back but the fact he was on the field is definately encouraging.I thought Forte looked awful for the most part. Didn't seem to be able to make anything happen on his own. The line isn't doing him any favors but Forte didn't show me much last night.
I would blame that on QB and RB too. IF you got a guy who takes too long to release, or a guy who stutter steps behind the line, the line can't do much about that can they? Don't get me wrong I am a vikes fan, but this statement is far too generalized to be accurate.Yes...really.Or did you miss last season when they ranked dead last in ypc and gave up 43 sacks (ranked 24th in the league in that stat).So...maybe not "the worst"...but pretty terrible.Really? I agree with the above. If you watched the game (and the previous 2) you'd see that Forte is a good runner with good vision and the ability to make a guy miss and to break a tackle. There were several plays, also, where he did get 2-3 yards out of nothing. Also, he is consistently in the game on third down, which increases his value especially in PPR. Sure, if all goes well for KJ, Forte could end up on the bench for a few series per game, but in the end, the coaching staff likes him enough to give him plenty of chances. They want him to develop, and barring injury, I highly doubt that at the end of the year they bench him to give significantly more carries to KJ.Re: the offensive line, they are weak. Some yes...but that line was a huge part of that offense sucking last year. They spent a 1st rounder on the Oline, but he ended up hurt. Its just not a good line whatsoever.I would blame that on QB and RB too. Agreed. Forte looked a little more slender than I had originally thought, but also thought he looked pretty good. Shifty with some power as well. Given the great performance by Orton, I would be bouyed if I were a Forte owner. And as a KJ owner in a keeper format, I was shocked to see how well he looked on this long run. Great cuts and power.Enraged Nerfball said:While I did see 2-3 runs he made for little gain, he looked better than is being portrayed here, IMO. So let me get this straight: you think KJ is playing harder than normal simply so that he can make the roster week 1. Period.KJ is the most talented RB on the roster. Once he's healthy - if that happens - he will take carries away from Forte.KJ is a guy I kind of root for, but fantasy-wise he's not viable to me. It's nice that he looks good and maybe he can carve out a change-of-pace role, but I don't see him doing much on that team with a rookie they like and a backup who knows the system pretty well. He was a cheap talent, so the Bears gave him a shot. I think he's playing extra-hard because he wants to be on the roster for week 1 so his salary is guaranteed. Hope he makes the team.
To a certain extent I agree with you guys. I shouldn't have used the word "awful," that's too strong a word. I would say he looked average or pedestrian, though. Nothing special about him whatsoever, at least last night. That's the only action I've seen him in this preseason but my initial thoughts were that this is going to be a long year for Chicago.Agreed.
