Kolby Smith this week (1 Viewer)

Kolby made owners very happy last week with his 150 yd 2 td effort...although it came vs the Raiders.

This week he has another decent matchup vs the Chargers.

However, this game could get out of hand if the Chargers play well on offense again this week...eliminating much of the running. BUT, KCs def is solid and they're playing at home.

Predictions? Who will you start him over?

I'm going to say 85 rushing 35 rec 0 Td.

Might start him over K. Jones (again) and R. Bush (again).

How much of the Chargers ranking as a run D is a product of the record setting game by ADP? My perception, which may be inaccurate, is that they've been decent against the run outside of that.

Good point - how effective have they been though since they lost Castillo though? I know that once he went out in the Minnesota game is when AP really seemed to start going off.

Right now he is in over K Jones.

Though, Jones might go back in for Portis depending on how I feel about CP and his mental state.

KJ has earned a bit more respect after how he ran against GB...but that Minny D is playing so good right now.

I didn't start him last week (thank god I didn't end up needing him for the win) because I didn't know what to expect. I am seriously considering sitting KJ for him this week as I need to win this week to make the playoffs. SD does seem like a good matchup especially since it is Arrowhead. I would cautiously expect about 80 yds and a TD this week.

I think everyone that has K. Jones has K. Smith too. That Minnesota def. scares me into not playing Jones.
His 2 weeks prior to the Thanksgiving game made everyone quick on the draw when Priest went down. Now I lost Benson and not sure what I have in Portis.Yet somehow, I am the #1 team in my league...and if I win this week I secure that spot. I can lose and still be #1 if the guy tied with me in record, and several points behind me, loses.Going to be tough rolling with K. Smith, KJ and maybe Maurice Morris at RB.

They were 7th in the league before that game, 24th after

Have they a ready declared L.J. out for this week?
I believe the NFL releases the new injury reports on Wednesday but with LJ being listed as OUT the last few weeks coupled with Smith's performance last week makes me think its safe to say that KC won't rush LJ back. Even if LJ is QUESTIONABLE this week, I doubt he plays.

A couple of things...

SD is better than the 24th ranked rush D. When it is rivalry games...all stats/rankings should get thrown out the window.

SD has been playing better lately...can't say the same for the Chiefs. The Chiefs defense, which was once their strong unit this year, has been regressing. I THINK the Chiefs are starting to lose faith in their coaching staff and there may be some dissention starting to build.

KC has no passing attack to respect, no O-line, and a rookie RB starting his 2nd game. And SD is playing for revenge as well as to secure #1 in their division.

I suspect this could get pretty ugly. I wouldn't be banking on too much from K. Smith. I'd say he'll be lucky to get 60 - 70 yards and 0 TD's.

Herm will make some boneheaded calls and their kicker (yes I know they signed Carney) will miss some kicks as well I suspect. KC is a very ugly franchise right now.

I didn't see any of the game, but how did K. Smith look catching the ball?

I know in the box score he only had 1 reception, but was he targeted more? If so, did he drop alot of those passes or were they bad throws from the QB?

Here are some numbers I put together for SD's run D...

Sun 9/9 Chicago W 14-3 -- [Carries/Yards/YPC/TDs] 26 / 80 / 3.1 / 0

Sun 9/16 at New England L 14-38 -- 32 / 144 / 4.5 / 1

Sun 9/23 at Green Bay L 24-31 -- 13 / 42 / 3.2 / 1

Sun 9/30 Kansas City L 16-30 -- 28 / 126 / 4.5 / 0

Sun 10/7 at Denver W 41-3 -- 20 / 72 / 3.6 / 0

Sun 10/14 Oakland W 28-14 -- 23 / 53 / 2.3 / 0

bye

Sun 10/28 Houston W 35-10 -- 29 / 115 / 4.0 / 0

Sun 11/4 at Minnesota L 17-35 -- 43 / 378 / 8.8 / 4

Sun 11/11 Indianapolis W 23-21 -- 26 / 75 / 2.9 / 0

Sun 11/18 at Jacksonville L 17-24 -- 37 / 122 / 3.3 / 1

Sun 11/25 Baltimore W 32-14 -- 20 / 56 / 2.8 / 1

(I pulled these numbers from Yahoo's game recaps, and did so rather quickly, so there may be a few minor errors. I did double check them, but don't hold me to these.)

Currently, SD's run D is ranked 21st with about 114 yards given up per game, and about 4.2 yards per carry, and 8 TDs.

If you ignore the Minny game just for sake of analysis, that drops to: 89 yards/game, 3.5 ypc, and only 4 rushing TDs.

The main thing I see here is that SD's run D is just very inconsistent from week to week, but pretty darn good.

I don't care if the Chargers and Raiders are within 7 spots on the rush D rankings, the Raiders run D is far, far worse. Kolby may be the real deal, but starting him over better options this week is like starting Dayne after he ran over the Raiders.

Perfect analysis ^. And, I'm a KC homer. :mellow:Although, in spite of last week's game, Arrowhead in December has a magical power over opponents.

I think a lot of it will depend on whether SD gets a significant lead on KC early in the game.

Hey Fellas, I don't like Kolby's matchup this week so I don't think I'll use him but he has really good matchups in Week 14, 16, and 17. Denver, Detroit, and NYJ respectively.

I HAVE to win this week and other people HAVE to lose for me to make the playoffs. That being said, besides Addai, I have to choose from

W.McGahee vs Pats

R.Grant vs. Cowboys

K.Smith vs. SD

Right now, I'm rolling the dice with Grant.

it's Kolby or CHIs Peterson or C. Taylor for me. I'm going with Kolby "for now."

He's the only option to speak of in KC at home. And I agree on tossing numbers out the window in a division rivalry game like this. But this is not a juicy match up by any stretch.

I think he was targeted 5 times...1 catch....3 drops.

20-70-0.

I can't understand how he'll "be lucky to get 60 to 70 yards". If he's lucky, the Chiefs' decent defense will show up and he'll get 25+ carries, get a couple of holes and break a few as he did last week. If he's really lucky, KC will get into the redzone a couple of times and he'll have a shot at scoring.

3 drops? Where do you get that info?

If I don't trade him, I;m starting him. I was offered Torry Holt straight up for him.

However, my RB's ave changed since the start of the season...lost ROnnie Brown and ended up with Westbrook, Selvin Young, Fargas, and Kolby Smith

Clearly as others have commented I believe many of us have the same rosters. Last week I started Portis and Kolby over K. Jones and R. Bush. I'm not big on Kolby's matchup this week but it may very well be better then the alternatives. While the Raider's have a habit of making backs look great I can say that I was very impressed with what I saw. He seemed to be patient in looking for holes in the defense and when he attacked it he did so with speed, agility and power. Luckily I'm 11-1 right now and have absolutely nothing to lose if I do start him but I think I'm really looking forward to his matchup with Denver (4th worst rush D) in the first round of our playoffs.

:no:Took him out when I heard there was a chance T.Henry would play this week against Oakland. :wall: :wall: :wall:The guy I played had T.Owens :wall: BUT he also had B.Favre :excited:

Low Dollar Office League (12 team - start 2)

Westbrook

Peterson (MIN)

Kolby

Peterson (CHI)

Hall (DEN)

Benson

$250 Buy in 16-team league - Start 1+Flex

McGahee

Kolby

Chatman

Hate starting McGahee but the signing of Gado has me nervous.

Thinking of starting him instead of Portis :sadbanana: For the record I benched him last week. Portis has just been horrible the last few weeks. Buffalo is tough and Campbell is becoming comfortable tossing the ball around. I just don't like this Portis match up. The upside of Kolby is that there's no one else there. As long as they don't get behind early, which isn't usually the case this time of the year at Arrowhead, Kolby should be seeing the rock...a lot.

Please advice

I've been keeping up with K. Smith for a while and was rewarded after getting a very game from him last week, but did not start him this week as I think the SD matchup is not very enticing. It's prob. already been mentioned , but SD.'s run defense #'s are inflated due to ADP's record breaking day. Besides that game, the Chargers have been pretty solid. Not to mention, that KC's defense looked like it took a step backwards after last week.

Just my .02, but I'd use precaution with Smith this week.

I don't like it, but I'm rolling with Kolby. My only other option is McGahee. I figure that their downside is similar, but I'll take Kolby's upside.

Still wavering between Kolby, Chatman, or Steve Smith at flex. Kolby has the crappy O-line, Chatman has his ankle problem, and Steve Smith has no QB. I'll sleep on it and look for a sign tomorrow.

same as what i've heard, outside of the AP explosion they are holding teams down to like 62yards on the ground. AP is otherworldly-kolby smith had a nice game last week against the worst rush defense in the league. play him if u must but don't expect 100yards from kolby.

I'm starting Gore and Fargas this week and if I didn't have these favorable matchups, I would give Kolby Smith some serious consideration (actually I am still).

There is one thing to keep in mind when everyone says 'throw out that Minnesota game' when talking about San Diego's rush defense. If you toss out the game where they were owned by the Vikes, also toss out the games where they jumped out to an early lead, causing the other team to abandon the run or teams that don't run.

So remove:

1. Green Bay game (they didn't run at that time)

2. Denver game

3. Oakland? (did Lamont suck?),

4. Indy (remember the 6 picks by Manning)

5. Baltimore

That brings the average back up quite a bit doesn't it? So those thinking of starting Kolby need to ask themselves 'will San Diego good offense show up or will the putrid offense show up?'

Does Huard starting at QB influence anything? Croyle wasn't setting the league on fire but seemed to be protecting the ball well.

I have had Kolby in my starting lineup all week, but have my finger on the trigger to put in R. Bush right now. Looks like Bush is full strength now.

I am starting him at flex over Chester Taylor but may possibly throw Chester in instead. I'm starting ADP as well and am just a tad nervous about the carry share. If Chili gives Taylor the bigger chunk and he's on my bench in favor of a medicore Koby I'd be too pissed. Almost worth it to bench Kolby and if he explodes again then oh well. I'm an Eagles homer and the last thing I want is that moron Chili getting over on me (yes, it is personal, his poor coaching style is an offense to everyone).

According to Yahoo it does. Their projected FF points for Kolby dropped by 5 to 17 now and Dwayne Bowe's increased by 4.
