Kolby Smith - Week 15 (1 Viewer)

Kolby Smith (home) matched up against Tennessee who is ranked 10th in yds/game, but has allowed a RB to score in the last 5 games. You may not have many options, but those that do, what's your thoughts on Kolby's production this week?

kolby is questionable this week. Banged up his knee.

Did I read that Haynesworth is hurt, too? I seem to remember something earlier in the year showing how much more susceptible to the run the Titans' D is without him in the lineup. But more to your point, if people are starting Kolby at all, they are probably desperate at RB (like me). I went from having LJ, Willie Parker, and Reggie Bush as my options in a PPR to Parker, Kolby Smith, and Aaron Stecker. Times like these make you consider starting Kolby.

Im flip flopping between Smith, Stecker, and Lee Evans.

Smith with the banged up knee is probably the 3rd option right now.

Tennessee has been getting run on the past several weeks (even with Haynesworth back in there)

Unfortunate that LJ owners have been reduced to Kolby Smith.

Even worse is that people may actually learn Gilbert Harris' name - but they'll likely forget it shortly after this week barring an unreal performance.

Rotowire:

Dec 10 Smith (minor ankle injury) managed just 12 yards on 13 carries in Sunday's loss to the Broncos.

Recommendation: Despite playing against one of the league's most vulnerable run defenses, Smith couldn't do any damage in what was a terrible offensive output for Kansas City. Poor offensive line play limited Smith's effectiveness, as did an early deficit that forced the Chiefs to go to the air. He should bounce back next week if starting left tackle Damion McIntosh (knee) returns, but should probably be treated as a low-end starter or flex option. Gilbert Harris replaced Smith in the first half after Smith appeared to suffer an ankle injury, but Smith returned on the next series.

Anyone have a link for the banged up knee?

Sure, I'll give Kolby the start. Now that I am playing for 5th place thanks to last weeks effort.

Seriously I wouldnt touch the guy unless you have No other backs on your roster.

per the Kansas City Star, practice squad RB Jackie Battle may start if Kolby cannot go. He is a former U of Houston tailback.

I have other options (FTaylor, Stecker, Henry/Young combo) but trying to decide if he should be start as my flex. I plan to start Young as my 2nd RB. With Haynesworth questionable and Smith getting the majority of the carries, I like chances better than Taylor vs Pitt and Stecker vs ARI.

This match-up is about injuries:

If Kolby starts, and Haynesworth sits, start him.

If Kolby starts, and Haynesworth starts, bench him.

I have the TEN D in the starting blocks, but if things don't look promising for Haynesworth after Friday's practice, I'm switching to CIN at SF (Sat game). That D is not the same without him.

do you have a link for this?
Here is what I found.
On practice-squad tailback Jackie Battle, who could play Sunday if Kolby Smith, listed as questionable Tuesday with an injured knee, cannot play:

University of Houston running back. Was in Dallas camp. He’s a big, strong guy, 235 pounds, decent hands. Ran kind of a wide-open offense down there. Ran the ball decent, has some speed. For all his height, weight, speed, he looks the part. He hasn’t had a lot of opportunities, obviously. He’s just on the practice squad here. If there comes a time when we feel like we need to bring him up and look at him, we’ll bring up him and look at him.

thanks, that is quite a bit different than the comment he would start.

From a well respected poster on a Chiefs board.

CHIEFS PROMOTE RB JACKIE BATTLE TO 53-MAN ROSTER, ADD TWO TO PS

Kansas City Chiefs President Carl Peterson announced on Wednesday that the club has agreed to terms of a three-year contract with RB Jackie Battle, adding him to the club’s 53-man roster from the practice squad. Per Chiefs policy, no other terms of the agreement were made available. In addition, Kansas City added TE Zac Alcorn and LB Mickey Pimentel to the practice squad.

Battle (6-2, 238) originally signed with Dallas as a rookie free agent in 2007 and attended training camp with the Cowboys, but was released prior to the start of the regular season. He signed with the Chiefs as a member of the practice squad on November 21st. Battle finished his career at the University of Houston with a school record 31 rushing TDs. In 41 collegiate games, Battle tallied 441 carries for 2,120 yards (4.8 avg.) with 31 TDs. He also added six receptions for 45 yards (7.5 avg.) with the Cougars. Battle prepped at Humble High School in Humble, Texas.

Alcorn (6-4, 260) originally entered the NFL as a rookie free agent in 2006 with the Green Bay Packers and attended training camp with that club before being released prior to the start of the regular season. He then signed with the Packers practice squad on September 4th and was promoted to the 53-man roster on November 18th. He appeared in six games as a reserve tight end and on special teams, totaling two special teams tackles. He was released by the Packers prior to the start of the 2007 regular season and spent a portion of this season on the 49ers practice squad.

Alcorn was an NAIA All-America honoree at Black Hills State (SD), following two seasons at Chadron State (NE) College. He finished his career at Black Hills State with 85 receptions for 1,220 yards (14.4 avg.) Alcorn prepped at Chadron High School in Chadron, Nebraska.

Pimentel (5-11, 235) originally entered the NFL with Carolina as a rookie free agent in 2007. He attended training camp with the Panthers, but was released prior to the start of the regular season. Pimentel appeared in 25 games (nine starts) in two seasons at California, totaling 98 tackles (48 solo), 18.5 tackles for loss (-69.0 yards), 8.0 sacks (-47.0 yards), three interceptions and a touchdown. He transferred to Cal from Pima (AZ) Community College and prepped at Marian Catholic High School in San Diego, California.

Ouch. You know your RB situation is bad when you don't even know your RB's name and refer to him as the "houston rb". I wish I had that "new england qb", what's his name?I don't like K. Smith this week, especially if Haynesworth is playing. After last week's performance, in addition to being banged up, he's too big of a risk.

It seems like some here are forgetting that both offensive tackles for KC were out. That Oline was a mess, Barry Sanders couldn't have run behind that line Sunday. Sounds like one OT is dinged but may start this week. Any KC homers have more info on the status of the KC oline, like how many starters from openning day are still suiting up? How dinged is the line?

Why are people down on Kolby? He more than tripled the numbers of Hall of Fame running back Adrian Peterson last week . . .

I just don't think Haynesworth is 100%.

Even with him the past 2 weeks...this is what RBs did.

Dayne 86 rushing yards, 1 rushing TD...3 receptions for 25 yards

LT 146 yards rushing, 1 rushing TD, 5 receptions for 27 yards and a TD.

Kolby is no LT...but its not like Tennessee has been good against the run lately.

With that said...Fisher is pretty good at game planning and KC does not have the passing attack that SD and Houston have IMO...Fisher can go with more stopping the run and letting the rest of the D handle the passing game more so than he could the last 2 weeks.

starting Selvin Young over Kolby...Kolby might be hurt, more risky than Selvin who ripped off 150 yards last week and has a good matchup this week.

TEN bottled up LT for most of the game...only in the 4th quarter and OT did he do damage.

My dilemma is Kolby Smith or Laurence Maroney. I doubt the Chiefs do 30 pass plays in a row from shotgun while having a 30 point lead.

With the weather report for NE...Id go with Maroney. While Brady is great and so are Moss and Welker...I think Maroney may have the better day this week as the weather may force them to run more.

i think walker is his name...these fantasy guys have to earn a place in my memory. if he does well 2nite, i'll remember his name.

Any news on if Kolby practiced today.

Dreaded decision b/n him and D. Walker?

I hate Thursday games!

KFFL:

Dec 13 Adam Teicher, of The Kansas City Star, reports Kansas City Chiefs RB Kolby Smith (knee) participated in practice Thursday, Dec. 13. He will be able to play Week 15.

Sitting him for Kevin Jones. (Or Gore if I can muster up the stones to roll the dice on his crappy team and ankle that might give out on any play.)

(Non PPR league, btw)

I have a half hour to decide if I'm going with DARRIUS WALKER or KOLBY also. Since I'm already reduced to starting Sage, I might have to lean toward Kolby. Last week's stats were NOT encouraging at all. Do I roll the dice and pray for a shootout tonight? And Can you BELIEVE that I'm in the final four of a 12 team league?

Can't decide between Fargas or Kolby Smith. Both carry huge risk. I'm nervous about Fargas getting enough touches if the Colts jump out to an early lead. The Chiefs are more inclined to stick with the run in what should be a closer game. All things being equal, there's no doubt that Oakland has the better run O. I may do what another poster said, make my decision based on Haynesworth. I can't predict the flow of either game so I guess that makes the most sense.

I have to start two of Kolby Smith, Chatman and Norwood (we start 3 RBs and LT is definitely going to be in!) Oddly enough, I'm almost sure I will start Norwood, because I'm hoping the new coach might have a clue. Both Kolby and Chatman are banged up and face tough defenses, but I'm thinking at least Kolby was healthy enough to run the ball a dozen times last week, while Chatman didn't get a carry.

Best advice yet if you have "iffy' choices at RB this week. Mine are:Option 1. Dry field conditions in Pitts - start MJD. Wet field conditoins, bench him and procede to option 2.Option 2. Smith starts, Haynsworth sits, start him. Any other scenario, procede to option 3:Option 3. Julius Jones
