Koren Robinson worked out with The Pack..... (1 Viewer)

I think he'll be suspended if he tries to play. Teh only reason he hasen't been suspended yet is because he was cut.

But if he did sign, would Jennings still be the #2 guy?

It makes sense for Koren to go to Brewry capital of the US.

I don't know that it would be good for the Slack though.

Green Bay - Even though he is facing a possible one-year suspension for violating the NFL's substance abuse program, the Green Bay Packers brought in wide receiver Koren Robinson for a visit late Sunday.

According to an NFL source, the Packers registered his visit with the NFL, which they are required to do so that all the other teams in the league are aware of it.

The degree of interest the Packers have in Robinson is unknown, but because the former Seattle and Minnesota receiver has not been suspended yet he is free to talk to teams.

General manager Ted Thompson and personnel analyst John Schneider were both in Seattle when Robinson was scouted and eventually selected with the No. 9 pick in the 2001 draft. After Robinson was cut from the Seahawks and then the Vikings last year, the Packers made a push to get him signed.

He ended up re-signing with the Vikings and made the Pro Bowl last year as a kick returner.

The Packers have a need at both wide receiver and kick returner and might be interested in signing him now or in the future. However, they will have to consider his battles with alcohol, which landed him in the substance abuse program.

Robinson has had numerous alcohol-related problems and was suspended for four games in 2004 for violating the league's substance abuse policy. Seattle released him after the '04 season and after spending time in an alcohol treatment facility in North Carolina, the Vikings signed him.

He had a solid year for the Vikings and received a three-year, $12.7 million contract in the off-season.

However, on Aug. 15, he was caught driving 100 mph in a 55 mph zone on his way back to the team's training camp in Mankato, Minn.

Robinson refused to stop and was eventually arrested. His blood-alcohol content was measured by the police at 0.11. The Vikings cut him Aug. 26.

Because his arrest might be a third violation of the league's policy, Robinson faces a one-year suspension. However, he will be able to appeal if the league chooses to do so and for the time being he is eligible to play.

If the Packers sign him, he'd be on the roster before week one, he'd immediately be suspended, and they'd free a roster spot back up. It's a good move to squirrel him away on your roster, especially if you're anticipating Favre retiring this year. Plus, this is the cheapest you'll ever be able to sign him.

Jennings is a lock. Robinson would have to learn the playbook. His primary duty would likely be as a kick returner to start off. Cory Rogers was supposed to be the man but got cut.

NFL Network's Adam Schefter reports former Minnesota Viking Koren Robinson was recently in Packers camp.Schefter says he would not be surprised to see Green Bay sign the troubled return man/wideout. Robinson's addition would hurt Greg Jennings' value and might push Robert Ferguson off the roster. Whether Robinson will be eligible for the season remains highly uncertain.

This is not a good idea. Let someone else take a chance on this guy. Going to Wisconsin isn't a great bet for a player with alcohol issues.

It's not as though the Seahawks offense is radically different from the Packers. They're both WCO derivates run by coaches from the Holmgren coach factory.

I know he has alcohol problems and I know he wasted what could be his last chance. But the guy blew a 1.1. He probably had 5 beers. Yep, stupid and unexcusable but I would think if he was a crazy drunk he would have blew a 1.7 at that point. Weird.

I think he'll get one more chance.

He's going to jail guys. He was on a suspended sentence in WA for multiple vilations and they're going to put him in to serve the remaining 364 days of his 1 yr sentence. The suspended sentence was leniency which he clearly didn't deserve since he was driving 100mph drunk. This isn't his first or second or even fourth drinking related arrest/problem. No way the judge doesn't throw the book at him and make him serve his sentence. He belongs in jail and the best thing I can see for him is that the league lets him serve his 1 year suspension from football concurrent with his impending jail time. And THEN he still ahs to deal with the legal ramifications of his latest arrest. He's hosed. It's too bad. i liked the guy in Seattle and wished every year he'd be different. But he very clearly needs a reality check and he's been given too many chances by too many people. He's lucky not to have killed anyone and anyone who thinks he's playing football outside the King County Penal League is fooling themselves.

King County will dominate this year.

All that #### I got from Packer fans about another Viking getting arrested and now they might sign him? Too funny.

Didn't they just drop Rod Gardner. I mean is Rod Gardner that bad or is Koren that good where they would try to add him to the team that is crazy. I realize he did some good things on the special teams end but to me he isn't worth bringing in. He clearly has a trouble with alcoholism a legal substance but yet is still is a an addition. It is so funny how some teams talk up character issues during the draft but when it comes down to it most teams will risk much to win.

MY TAKE:

Wil Blackmon will not be able to play until the end of September (although he has been cleared to practice) and he is likely the kick returner. Cory Rogers their top rookie choice for the job was cut because he could not catch a punt.

In the mean time, K. Robinson can return punts. His court date in not until late September. He has to be convicted before the league will take any action. So he can play for 3 or 4 weeks.

If he gets suspended then he still belongs to the Packers for next year. They may not have to pay him for that period he is off.

I don't agree with his evaluationSuspension looming, the Pack wouldn't do anything drastic nor affect their prized rook on O

Why would they sign him? The guy was handed a nice contract and #1 WR on a silver platter and fumbled it away.

Billy1x's post above makes quite a bit of sense if they were to sign him.

Not sure this is correct. Koren was a repeat offender in the NFL drug system. He registered a BAC that showed he had drank some amount of alcohol. I believe just drinking ANY amount of alcohol is enough to get him suspended for the season, and I dont think the league has to wait for a conviction to do that.

If he blew a 1.1, he had a LOT more than that. I'm pretty sure 5 beers aren't going to make your blood 110% alcohol. :D
