Call me crazy, but I think Boller is ready to take his game to the next level. I know it was only the Jets, but I really think this team is better off with Boller in there. He definitely looks like a different QB than he was a few years ago when he was the starter. And with all those weapons, I think he can make a solid QB2 if he gets the job.

Is there a chance he takes over for McNair assuming McNair gets healthy? Crazier things have happened..

yes... I wouldn't mind seeing Boller get his shot. He came off the Bench and looked better than Air McNair

I think you run with Boller this year and hope for the best. If he's servicable, you have a puncher's chance in the AFC. If he stinks, you grab Woodson, Brennan, or Ryan in round 1 and go on with your life.

I was just thinking about this.

After playing great for most of last season (once Billick took over the play calling), McNair really stunk it up in Week 17, the playoffs, and now in Week 1.

Here are his numbers from those games:

Week 1 2007

20-34, 203 yards, 0 TD, 1 INT, 3 lost fumbles

Playoffs 2006

18-29, 173 yards, 0 TDs, 2 INTs, 1 lost fumble

Week 17

23-35, 216, 0 TDs, 1 INT

And here's what Boller did yesterday, and the two games he played most of last year

Week 2 2007

23-35, 185 yards, 2 TDs, 0 INT,

Last year

13-21, 238 yards, 2 TDs, 1 INT, 1 lost fumble

17-31, 226, 3 TDs, 1 INT

I'm not so sure that Boller's that good, as I am really wondering if McNair is all done. 0 TDs, 4 INTs, 4 lost fumbles in his last 3 games for McNair.

In Boller's last 16 games with double-digit attempts (dating back to 2004), he is 293/512 (57.1%) for 3196 yards (6.2 ypa), 24 TDs and 17 INTs (along with 183 rushing yards and a TD). That's pretty respectable, but not obviously better than McNair. In the small sample sizes of 2006 and 2007, he's put up good numbers in relief.

I think Boller is likely to be a decent option for as long as McNair is injured, and he may perform well enough to keep McNair on the bench a week or two longer. But I expect that McNair will wind up back under center.

The only way this doesn't happen is if Boller wins another game or two, and McNair comes back and stinks up the place.
