Source: Orton suffers high ankle sprain, out a month

The "good Rex, bad Rex" debate returns to Chicago.

Bears quarterback Kyle Orton was taken from the field on a cart late in the second quarter Sunday, and a source told ESPN's Michael Smith that a high ankle sprain will sideline him at least a month.

Rex Grossman started the second half for Chicago and led the Bears to a 27-23 come-from-behind win over the Detroit Lions.

Orton will have an MRI on Monday, the source told ESPN.

The Bears were trailing 23-13 when Orton scrambled to his right in the closing minute of the first half. Cory Redding hit him and Dewayne White fell on Orton as the quarterback was hitting the turf.

Orton got up and took a few steps, then crumbled to the ground. He was tended to for several minutes before being carried off. He was 8-of-14 passing for 108 yards.

The Bears also lost safety Mike Brown to a calf problem late in the first half.

Grossman threw for a touchdown and ran for another as the Bears outscored the Lions 14-0 in the second half. He had lost the starting job to Orton in training camp after an uneven 2007 campaign.

"I always thought odds are I was going to play a little bit, so we'll see what happens," Grossman said.

Olsen becomes useless as long as Grossman is the QB. That POS has no idea how to do anything other than throw hail mary's and hope some WR can run under it.

Yet he's 3-1 against the Pack and the only loss was a meaningless week 17 game in 2006 when the Bears already had home field wrapped up.

That's too bad for Bears fans and Kyle Orton owners. He was having a solid season, I don't think anyone predicted he'd be doing as well as he has.

Hopefully, the Bears can win a couple ugly games for him. They're currently 5-3 and up 1 game on the Vikes and Pack.

Honestly, you can't sling too much mud at Grossman and how bad he is. As far as a backup goes, I gaurantee you he's twice as good as both Brad Johnson and Brooks Bollinger for the Cowboys, so chin up Bears fans.

NBC crew is speculating that he drove home, so his ankle may not be as bad as reported
To expand on this, Peter King stated that the Offensive Coordinator told him after the game that Kyle had told him that it didn't feel too bad.

Sexy Rexy is relevant again :football:
The really sad thing is that I have my eye on this situation and I'm fairly excited about possibly getting Rex in my lineup. And somehow, I'm still a contender - going into this week I have the best overall record in a 16 team dynasty league... it's just that my only other QB is Jamarcus :)

Rex will get them the W vs the Titans.
This wouldn't suprise me. I don't think the Bears are a better team but I also think the Titans are due to lose. The Packers dominated the Titans in alot of areas yesterday. They ran for 100 yard, threw for 300, won time of possession. They just could not punch it in the endzone and they dropped at least 2 sure interceptions.

Same for Matt Forte, imo. His YPG were not too impressive anyway, only the PPR #s were keeping his value high. I don't Rexy has any idea how much dumpoffs to the RBs/TEs could help his game.

I've been Snortin' Orton for several weeks and happily sticking Big Ben on the bench. I was enjoying riding in Kyle Style, but now the bigger question remains what to do with him? Drop him, or keep him on the roster hoping he comes back for the FF playoffs where he gets 3-straight home games? My inclination at this point is to hold him on the roster for 1-2 weeks and see how he progresses. There isn't much on the waiver wire at this point anyways. What are other folks doing with Orton, drop or hold?

:goodposting: He knew Orton would be injured or something?
In the last 15 years or so, the Bears have always lost their starting QB at some point in the season. In many years, it is both the #1 & #2.
