LaGarrette Blount (1 Viewer)

My concern for Blount is that his poor pass blocking may keep him out of the game until TB gains a sizable lead.
bingo. I can;t see myself taking this sort of risk at this point of the season... especially with established runner available to me... but again, the numbers he puts up at CAR, under a normal full load very well could impress. CAR hasn;t been studly as of late v the run...Hopefully Morris sheds a lot more light during the week... Put the Caddy in the junkyard already

I'm rolling w/ Blount only because I have to. I went WR heavy early this week in my PPR league so that left me w/ weak RB's.

I've since picked up Blount and Torain and traded Forte for Bradshaw earlier... so I'm in good shape.

I wouldn't start Blount over guys like LT, Benson, or Mendenhall b/c they're more proven...

But I think he could have a nice week vs. CAR who has looked pathetic at times.

I could see him getting 15 carries for 80 yds and a TD.

LeGarrette Blount vs Carolina:A very winnable game. TB could keep a comfortable lead and ram the heck out of Blount. Who are you starting him over? I'm considering Blount over L.T.
I started Blount over Dez Bryant as a flex, and that cost me a win last Sunday. Bryant's been so good lately, I think I'll bench Blount for Bryant this Sunday.

There a number of games from here on where TB could build a lead. I'm looking to buy coming off of Blount's slow week. CAR

Debating starting Blount over Hillis
NEVER, I repeat NEVER doubt Peyton Hillis. Until the drug policy comes crashing down on this guy I will continue to start him over pretty much anyone. If the defense was allowed to put 22 players on the field I would still start Hillis.

The offensive line should get an upgrade starting week 10

"Buccaneers | Two practice fully Wednesday Wed Nov 10, 09:33 PM

Tampa Bay Buccaneers C Jeff Faine (quadricep) and OT Jeremy Trueblood (knee) both practiced fully Wednesday, Nov. 10."

I don't know if this has been a topic of discussion, but Hillis has to jacked up. He sure looks it, and it seems there are a lot of people thinking the same thing.

From Rotoworld:

"Bucs C Jeff Faine (quad) and RT Jeremy Trueblood (knee) practiced fully Wednesday and appear likely to play in Week 10 if they don't suffer any setbacks.

"We just have to get them through a practice week first," coach Raheem Morris said. "… We have to get those guys back to speed, and we'll see where they are. We'll definitely know (Thursday)." It would be a big boost to LeGarrette Blount if both linemen are able to suit up this weekend."

Haven't watched many Bucs games this year. Why isn't he involved more in the passing game? Is it that he's not a good blocker, or that he's got bad hands?

Also, why hasn't he actually STARTED the game recently? I thought Caddy is a non-factor now? Seems like Blount only gets carries in the second half of games.

you thought incorrect about Caddy being a non-factor. If the game is flowing right, Caddy will be the third down back but he is clearly the preferred pass catching option (better hands possibly? but more likely better blocker)

I don't know if this has been posted as I haven't been reading the entire thread, but I heard a local radio interview with Bucs beat writer Rick Stroud,

He said the team would definitely like to get Blount more involved going forward. But he said that Caddy is clearly the much more complete back in understanding the playbook and especially in pass protection. He said that Blount only knows about 40 to 45 percent of the Bucs playbook. Until he learns the system completely, which may not be till next season, expect the learning curve to continue and more Caddy than you'd like to see.

that seems to be the biggest thing holding him back right now. It seems as if they are mostly using Blount as a 2nd weapon to beat up on a tired defense...I'd love to see him get more 1st half carries and end up around 22-24 carries. I think he's going to have a nice game this weekend as I don't see Carolina jumping out to a lead where they would need to rely on the passing game (Caddy) to get them back in it. They s/b able to pound Blount all game long.

OK translation+ this week against CAR they are going to use the half of the playbook he does know, RB2 material.

Considering starting him over Charles who may or may not be banged up and loses carries to Jones, he of the amazing 1.9 yards per carry.
Isn't Thomas Jones averaging 4.2 ypc?
I think he's just referring to last week, which was actually 1.7ypc (19/32). As a KC homer, I'm happy we have both guys. Jones has been solid in most weeks, and while he may not put up the fantasy numbers, he is proving to be very valuable to the Chiefs. There hasn't really been any news about Charles this week. He's never mentioned when they talk about McCluster, Waters, or any of the other banged up players. Don't even see him listed on any injury reports. I have to assume he's practicing, and will be playing. For what it's worth, Denver has been playing a 4-3 instead of their 3-4 due to injuries. One starting LB is still out (Ayers), and their other starting LB, leading tackler and captain DJ Williams, got popped for a DUI Fri morning and may not play. Den gave up almost 500 rushing yards over the last two games with him in there...without DJ in there, the Chiefs will unleash hell on Denver's D. Charles should be starting for you either way.As for Blount, I picked him up and started him in week 8, sat him for week 9. He'll be in my lineup week 10. He's not the starter, you have to play the matchups with him, and this is a good one. I wouldn't bench my the top RB's for him though, he's still a large gamble at this point.

:kicksrock: I think somebody is still tallying up Charles' rushing stats from week 17 last year vs Denver.

Are you still on the train? Blount's TD drive today. He is destroying the entire field left, right and middle

1-10-TB13 (:46) L.Blount up the middle to TB 25 for 12 yards (N.Harris).

1-10-TB25 (15:00) (Shotgun) J.Johnson right end to TB 39 for 14 yards (J.Anderson).

1-10-TB39 (14:25) L.Blount right tackle pushed ob at CAR 37 for 24 yards (C.Godfrey).

1-10-CAR37 (13:57) L.Blount up the middle to CAR 34 for 3 yards (J.Beason, N.Harris).

2-7-CAR34 (13:19) L.Blount left tackle to CAR 17 for 17 yards (N.Harris).

1-10-CAR17 (12:32) L.Blount left tackle for 17 yards, TOUCHDOWN.

He looked like a world beater on his first six carries (78 yards & a TD) and decidedly below average on his next 13 carries for 13 yards.

On the bright side, Caddy Williams only had 6 Carries in Garbage time. Any one think Blount will get his reception/catching game going? that's the only reason he is not my every week starter in the FLEX, PPR.

Since they were playing the Panthers, yesterday was the first time that I've had a chance to really watch this guy. He looked amazing on the one touchdown drive, but other than that, he was getting stuffed quite a bit. Once the Panthers decided to key in on the run a little bit, Blount really couldn't get much going and had trouble even getting back to the line of scrimmage.

While I do think that he's going to have some good games down the stretch, I have a feeling that he will get shut down against quality run defenses.

It was encouraging to see him get a majority of the carries though. Cadillac did start, but Blount was in the game on the second play.

Personally, I'll keep using him as a spot start if I need him, until he starts to add some catches. In a PPR, his 93 yards and 1 TD was only equal to 15 points.

Interesting. As it is right now, Blount looks good for next year if he can learn the whole playbook. I've got him and Jahvid Best and will only be able to keep one for next season, if Blount can keep up his progress he might be the better keeper.

I have started this guy a couple of times now with mixed results. I just hate not know if he's going to get the right number of carries to build up his stats. As long as TB keeps the game close or has a lead, he'll get some carries. As far as next week, can we project if SF can contain him? Steven Jackson was 81/1 but had 67 receiving which made for a big day. How does STL's offensive line compare to TB's?

I actually like the way TB uses Blount. You see what is happening to rookies like Mathews and Best. They get over used then break down and then their production is even worse. It is true what they say. The jump from college to NFL level is still difficult. It's even more difficult for RBs who takes a pounding on every carry.I think this RBBC is keeping Blount fresh. Leading up to the end of 2010 he could see a full load during fantasy playoffs.

LeGarrette Blount's Carries : WEEK 10 (VIDEO)

vs. CAR: 19-91 TD

Rushing:

Blount for 5

Blount for 12

Blount for 24

Blount for 17

Blount for 17 - Touchdown

Blount for 8

Blount for 11

Yep, TB became really predictable once they got the lead and CAR started loading the box on 1st/2nd down. In fact, every one of Blount's carries came on 1st/2nd. Blount was being met in the backfield as soon as he was handed the ball on a lot of plays in the 2nd half. Regardless, you have to feel good about his odds of putting up good numbers with teams like SF, WAS, DET, and SEA coming up.With the way his FF success is dictated by his team's lead, he's sort of like Michael Turner 2.0

SF's D did a great job containing Steven Jackson in the first half of the game this past weekend. The second half Jackson broke off some long runs, and I guess the D got tired.

Blount is an incredible talent in my opinion. I would hate to jinx the guy since he is such a favorite of mine (i just love to like a guy that gets unfairly treated by the media and fans), but one of the great things about Blount is that he is not an injury prone back. In fact, I don't really remember the last time he was injured. He reminds me of Beenie Wells, the size/power combo is going to be incredible for the NFL. However, unlike Beenie, he seems to be able to avoid injuries. It is a mystery to me how Beenie could be drafted in the 1st round and this guy not get drafted at all. Did anyone see the TD run? If Beenie was making that run his arm would have probably just fallen off his body.

It is going to be extremely tough not keeping this kid. I can only keep 6 players for next year, and right now he is behind: Calvin, Fitz, Crabtree, Jahvid Best, Deangelo, Michael Vick and Matt Forte. I may have to skip over Vick due to age and Forte since he sucks, and sneak Blount in there.

The problem of Blount not catching the ball is predictability of play calling, therefore less yards. more importantly when Tampa gets behind big early, he will be barely on the field, therefore becomes almost useless in a fantasy back. That means he carries a much bigger gamble than a balanced back. I think last game against panthers, Josh only try to throw to him once and he dropped. Not a good sign.

Love this guy but he needs to watch this stuff. If he makes this a habit, he will get tee'd up and laid out.
It already IS a habit. There are 3-4 different videos of him hurdling would be tacklers. :blackdot:

I really shouldn't go into this again since it started like a two page argument between the entire shark pool earlier in this thread...I just think perception and reality are not properly coordinated on this matter.E

Would love to hear why you think he's "unfairly" treated by fans and media.
