Lake Ontario Bills? (1 Viewer)

Great article over at Football Outsiders about the Bills, Buffalo and Toronto. I don't know if Buffalo fans would agree, but if the team had to move to Toronto, if the name was changed to something like the Lake Ontario Bills, I think it's possible that it would help soften the blow a bit.

They could move to Toronto and still call themselves the Buffalo Bills. It would subliminally make people thing they are still in the states. That seems to work fine for the New Jersey teams.

They should go all the way and call them the New York Bills. We don't have any New Jersey teams, that's part of why I'm a Bengals fan!-QG

buffalo has some pretty die hard fans. they should sell the team to them, forgo having an owner, and let the stockholders elect a board of directors.

:angry:Are you not familiar with the reasoning for why the Bills are being moved?

One problem (other than the fact that the name stinks): Buffalo isn't on Lake Ontario.
And New York isn't in New Jersey, so what's your point?
You're not throwing a bone to the people in Buffalo by calling the team "Lake Ontario." It would be like if you moved the Yankees out of New York to Philadelphia, and said "hey, we'll call them the New Jersey Yankees so the guys in New York don't get pissed." It makes no sense.(By the way: Philadelphia is closer to New York than Toronto is to Buffalo.)

I'd reather see them go with something like the "Toronto Buffalo" and keep the existing logo & uniforms. The "lake Ontario Bills" is just plain stupid.

If the team eventually moves 100% to Toronto they should leave the Bills name in Buffalo and move on.

Like the Baltimore Ravens did when they left Cleveland.

I would agree that would be the best thing to do but whats to say they don't keep the name like the raiders, rams, colts & cards did?

Toronto and Buffalo have more in common with Niagara Falls than Lake Ontario.

Niagara Falls Barrels?

Doesn't quite have the ring to it but it's a start.

"Los Angeles Bills of Buffalo wink, wink, nod, nod, say no more... T-Dot located near Beautiful Lake Ontario"

This takes care of a number of problems and brings the NFL back to LA and to Canada.

One reason the Bills dont bring in a lot is they dont sell naming rights to their stadium. Doing this will generate a bunch of money on its own. Maybe not enough to keep them in Buffalo, but its a start. Once Ralph Wilson passes on, or sells the team, whoever takes over will most likely find someone to put a name on the stadium, so hopefully that keeps them in Buffalo.

I DO NOT want to have to cross the border just to go to a Bills game. I wouldn't be able to bring any "party supplies" to the game. I don't know any dealers in Canada.
