Lamar Miller, 2016, Infinity and beyond (5 Viewers)

wow...recently?
The deal was verbal last Sunday morning.  Breida looks great for two possessions and then gets hurt.  Other owner knew the deal was off.  I was super disappointed but then when news dropped that it wasn’t a high ankle sprain I sent the deal to him anyway and he accepted and then asked what I was thinking.  Jokes on him.

 nice deal for you

What's the current value of Lamar Miller & Dallas Goedert? I was offered his Goedert for my Miller in keeper PPR. I've got ample RBs ahead of Miller & I also have Gronk, Geseicki & Herndon at TE. However, I have been trying to move Miller with no bites for a while. So maybe just take the deal then try to flip Goedert or Gesicki w/another player for an upgrade somewhere?

He may have a big game tonight vs a weak Dolphins run defense (former team). His value can actually grow a little more.

Playing Latavius and Kerryon over him but agree the game script and revenge factor could pay off if you start.

a few years back when he first went to the texans i was thinking this guy could be one of the top rbs for years to come.  wtf happened

Starting him as my 2nd RB (Chris Carson, Lamar Miller, then Lat Murray in my 2nd Flex)

EDIT: Starting him over Rishard Matthews.

IF he plays well again this week....a RB starved team will.
Not in my league. I have been trying to trade him since last season. This is the only offer I have gotten...

Penny or Miller? I know the Penny owner wants to move Penny so maybe I can pull that off.

Obviously happy with the yardage and the TD tonight. However, would be nice to see him involved more in passing game. 11 catches all year and 5 in one game.

Anyone got a link to the Miller long run?  I missed it...............
Here you go.

Watson missed him twice, he was wide open on one.

Lamar Miller rushed 18 times for 133 yards and a touchdown in the Texans' Week 8 win over the Dolphins.

The 133 yards on the ground were Miller's second most as a Texan and came against the team that let him walk in free agency in 2016. Miller has now hit the century mark in back-to-back games, suddenly saving a fantasy season that had been circling the drain. Tonight was a soft matchup, but the Jags were anything but in Week 7. The Broncos will be another soft matchup for Week 9. Miller is once again looking like a safe RB2.

How stupid would I be to buy into Miller right now? Trying to make a deal at my dynasty's trade deadline the end of this NFL week. Make a championship push.

Is he a reliable RB2 the rest of the way?

I like him a lot if they start throwing the ball to him more now that Fuller is out. They have a couple of rough games coming out of their BYE, and if he's not involved in the passing game, I think he'll put up a couple of stinkers. It doesn't look like Watson is very good at throwing to RBs, to be honest. I don't blame Miller for this.

Depends on the price.  Obviously higher now than two weeks ago.  I am going to shop him after this week to a RB needy team and see what kind of WR I can get.

In PPR leagues, I would worry about the lack of targets for any of their running backs in the passing game.  Miller has 11 catches all year and 5 were in one game.

Unless his targets increase, he is going to have to score a TD to be of value, since I doubt the 100 yard rushing games continue.

He has a great matchup again next week against Denver.

Not sure how Fuller's injury will affect Miller.

How do you see his value in PPR going forward - more of a higher end Rb2 or mid-low?

Compared to ADP, Chubb, Thompson, Drake, Cohen, Kerryon, etc.

Personally, I think more of a low end RB 2 unless he gets an uptick in the passing game.  Some QBs just don't check down.  I think Watson has the mindset that he can buy time by scrambling and make a big play.  Compare him to someone like Eli Manning, who checks down at the first sign of trouble.  Barkley could easily end up with 100 catches this year if the current pace continues.

I would rather have Chubb, Cohen or Kerroyon.  Drake needs TDs like last night to score consistently because Gore isn't going away unless there is an injury.  ADP and Miller are pretty equal IMO at this point, although ADP is going to get more carries in close.

Good luck.  Not an easy situation to predict especially if Foreman is activated soon.  If you have Miller, I would look to sell at this point while his value is high

Very good observation.  Watson has had several chances to hit Miller when scrambling for big plays and he just has a hard time putting it on the #'s when throwing to RBs.  I don't know what the problem is.

Foreman isn't going to be a threat anytime soon, he's not even practicing yet. At the very least I saw some burst from Miller and for the first time in months he consistently didn't go down when hit by the first guy. He's only one development away from being an upside RB2, and that's getting regular passing work. I want to see if the musical chairs at WR (and especially the disruption of Keke Coutee from his 3rd WR/gadget role) is enough to open up that "middle of the field checkdown" role for him. Watson is definitely starting to look there since he did throw two TDs there to his rookie TE yesterday.

For reference, in a league where I am 1-6, and playing for next year Miller, L murray and Dalton to an RB desperate team for D Cook and Cam.

He's fools gold. He's playing to keep his job because if he played like the 1st 2 years of this contract, he wasn't seeing the $ in 2019. If you get him, pawn him off after the season although you may get a good 2019 out of him as well. If he gets an extension, dump him after the season because he will go back to falling down when a defender approaches.

Anyone traded for him or trade him away in dynasty lately?

Seems that he might be playing well enough to warrant a nice role somewhere next year and he'd still have a few years left.

Lamar Miller rushed 12 times for 162 yards and one touchdown in the Texans' 34-17, Week 12 win over the Titans on Monday night.

Miller was peeling off big runs the entire first half, with gains of 21, 12, and 15 before Demaryius Thomas caught a 12-yard score a couple plays later. He then wrecked the game for the Titans with a 97-yard touchdown run one play after Tennessee went for it on fourth down from the three-yard line only to get stuffed for no gain. Miller took it easy in the second half with Alfred Blue getting more work. Miller has 100 total yards and/or a touchdown in four of the last five games. He's established himself as a volume RB2 heading into Week 13 against the Browns.

Yeah - the game after I traded him he went for like 20 yards and I was accused of pillaging.  Will say the Texans are run blocking a bit better and he has burst.  Wouldn't mind having him back on my squad

He looks good, but the coaching staff still seems enamored with Alfred Blue.  I get that Miller is not Todd Gurley, but he is most definitely more talented with higher upside on every carry than Alfred Blue, yet Blue continues to get a solid chunk of the backfield work.  This was not a blowout until late, so it isnt as if they were saving Miller.  He had 51 yards in the first quarter  and looked excellent getting those 51.  Aside from the  97 yard run, he finished with just another 11 yards.  I have him, and started him in 2 dynasty leagues and I am constantly preaching about how every run counts and not to ever say "aside from that 97 yard run...", but I am simply pointing out second half usage and it remains a mystery to me that they dont continue feeding him in a game that is not decided and in a game where he has looked like a bonafide stud.  Dont get me wrong - I am ecstatic about his performance last night.  This post is not about that, its about the coaching staff.

They believe less volume will make him more efficient like he was in Miami. In a sense they're right; they gave him 20+ carries his first couple of years and he slogged through them. They think he'll be fresher and run more effectively going from 20+ carries to 12-14 and more rest during the game.

As long as he gets goal line carries, you gotta be fine with that too.

Rotoballer's Justin Carter had an interesting take on his running recently, very good read.

  • Fourth among backs in yards created, i.e. in yards beyond what the offensive line was responsible for. Essentially, Miller's speed and elusiveness have helped him be productive despite some poor line play.
  • 12th in breakaway runs with eight carries of 15 yards or more. Again, speed.
  • 7.8 yards per carry against stacked fronts, which seems...extremely high, especially when you consider that he's run against stacked fronts on 23.4 percent of his carries, and that he hasn't been very effective against them in the past.
  • 15th among backs in evaded tackles.
I've bemoaned here Miller's lack of elusivity for over a year. He always seems to go down to first contact, and I thought he lost his explosion due to heavy workloads wearing him down. I didn't know he was still that fast, he may not have jukes but that straight-line speed is something else. If Miller continues to operate as a one cut-and-go runner, he could have success hitting the hole so fast that there isn't time for anyone to get an arm on him.

Texans still have a bottom tier O-line, iirc. "one cut" runners need holes too.
