Larry Johnson #9? (1 Viewer)

This won't happen if you're drafting just a few days before the season like most of my leagues. This situation will be clearer.

Most likely he'll be signed, and be right back to a 3 or 4 pick. Otherwise he'll be out of the first round.

WOW, has he really fallen this low? After browsing a draft of site owners, I was shocked to see LJ having been drafted #9....

When LJ is threatening to miss the season or at least the first 10 games naturally he is going to drop. As soon as he is signed and in camp he will be back up to #3 or possibly #2.
PFT is reporting they are getting close. If he falls to you anywhere past 3, I would be thanking my lucky stars. He may not have the season he did last year, but how far could he possibly fall?----

Adam Schefter of NFL Network is reporting that the Chiefs and running back Larry Johnson have had contact talks recently that indicate the sides are getting closer to a long-term contract extension.

Schefter reports that the team and the Johnson camp engaged in serious discussions last week, and made good progress Saturday. They expect to keep talking this week.

Per Schefter, the tone of conversations between the two sides has improved since training camp kicked off, and Johnson and the team both want to get a deal done that will have Johnson in a Chiefs uniform when Week 1 of the regular season kicks off. The Chiefs and Johnson had been reported to be somewhere in the neighborhood of $15 million apart on guaranteed money, and that is apparently no longer the case.

Of course, "getting closer" and actually having a signed contract are two very different things, and it's possible that Johnson, his representatives or Chiefs General Manager Carl Peterson will balk at something and bring the talks to a standstill. But for now, there's increasing optimism that a deal could get done.

Whoever got him at #9 received the best value for that particular draft. Scared money never wins....I'd rather take the risk and pick him at 3 or 4 than let him slip to #9 and have him come back and outperform the 3 or 4 man.

PS - He is going to sign soon!

While I completely beleive that LJ will play, I don't agree that scared money never wins. Risk assessment and avoidance in early rounds is key to winning your league. Earning 20-30 fewer points over the cource of a season because you picked someone other than LJ at 4 or 5 likely isn't going to cost you your season. However having your #1 pick go down or hold out is tough to overcome in any decent league.

Peterson said last night they were still far apart. He wouldn't even comment further on it, saying they don't talk about players that aren't here.

Peterson is full of it. He's just throwing curve balls. There are rumblings LJ could be signed by early next week.In my mind, there was never a risk in drafting LJ due to this holdout. People get up-in-arms during the preseason way too much. I mean seriously, does anyone here really believe that the two sides did not say a word to each other for months? I think the focus for the Chiefs were getting the rookies signed, etc and then move on to the LJ situation after giving him some needed rest from camp and the pre-season. Although, until he signs, it what it is.

And risky money ends up drinking fortified wine in the gutter.Leagues are won in the mid and late rounds of the draft. If LJ holds out for even one game it is a wasted pick at #9.Even if he signs I don't see him producing top 3 numbers. I am down on the Chiefs this season regardless of LJs holdout status.

Say hello to Mr.Obvious!!!What does that statement have to do with LJ being picked at #3 or #9? If he slips to #8 or #9 and can produce close to what he did last year, I consider that a heads up in winning a league.PS - Funny line on the fortified wine in the gutter :banned:

I have never seen such paranoia around a running back who IS NOT INJURED. If you get LJ at 8 or 9 you are getting the SOD!! No debate!! He will play this year and he has already proven that he will be ready on a moments notice. LJ is a beast. If you pass on him you will not be happy.
