Laurent Robinson (1 Viewer)

FBG's has him ranked ahead of guys like Welker & Porter this week. He is also ranked ahead of Jenkins & Horn even though he is listed as WR 4 on the Atlanta depth charts. What am I missing ?

O.K. - I guess it's because he led the falcons with 8 targets last week. That's all I can figure.

There was a thread a few weeks ago on him. I'd try searching for it - people have said some good things about this kid.

Laurent owner here. Dude will be the best receiver they have if he isn't already. I drafted him not for this year but for the future as soon as Vick was told to hit the road. You get a Brohm or maybe Matt Ryan in there next year and look out. They guy is good. Catches everything unlike the brick mit twins, White and Jenkins. Runs good routes and fast.

Played his high school ball at Rockledge (FL). A good player who wasn't very highly recruited (there are a lot more like him down there). He went to Illinois State where he ended up breaking every receiving record they have and was an All-Everything selection in 1-AA. He was drafted in the 3rd round, mostly becuase of where he played at the college level. He was a 1st round WR talent, not that the 3rd round is anything to sneeze at. It's just a matter of time before he's starting. The Falcons have been raving about him since Day One only nobody heard about it because of Vick...

Good rookie WR but he's been like a typical rookie WR.

To be fair, he also got a bit banged up after a promising week one. It allowed Jenkins and White to remain the key guys, but it's probably only a matter of time before Laurent gets extensive PT.

yeah he didI have him in 2 or 3 leagues. I like the player it's just I expect him to be somewhat unreliable for FF this year. Year 2 I'd bet he's fine. For example, apparently FBGs(or Dodds) thinks this is an up week for him. That's cool but I feel like I know there's a 3 catch 30 yard performance coming soon after as well.

I can recall two floated passes this season that he was WIDE open in the end zone, and if I recall correctly, he had a TD called back in the past week or two. If he actually scored those TD's, he's be picked up in most leagues. Now is the time before he goes up against a suspect NYG defense on national TV.

:goodposting: He's been holding up his end of the bargain - he's just been missed when open, or drawing PI penalties (two deep ones from Petey Faggins in week 4). The production will come. We are looking at a 1A, 1B, 1C situation in Atlanta, with Robinson likely emerging as time goes on as the leader of this all of the sudden strong group of young WRs in Atlanta. The loss of Vick did wonders for the WRs, but we saw this in 2005 - when Schaub came in, Brian Finneran looked like a quality NFL WR. I traded Robinson for White earlier in the year in a 12 team dynasty when I thought White was emerging as the #1 (and i needed immediate depth at WR), and I already regret it.

Best WR on the roster. I had to drop him because of roster cut downs, but he's a good guy for deeper league.

Not the type of guy who blows you away in highlights, but it's important to realize that many of the top WRs in the NFL aren't 6'5" with 4.3 speed. Robinson seems to fit the mold of a Darrell Jackson/Chad Johnson/Reggie Wayne/TJ Housh type of receiver. He was drafted 75th overall (ahead of Jason Hill), which is within ten spots of where Chris Henry, Bernard Berrian, Nate Burleson, Kevin Curtis, Deion Branch, Steve Smith, Laveranues Coles, Darrell Jackson, and Marty Booker were taken.

It's pretty common to see good receivers come out of rounds 2-4. Robinson was taken pretty high, and when you factor in that small school guys tend to go a bit lower in the draft than their talent might justify, I think you have the makings of a pretty good sleeper.

Joe Horn is on the way out, Roddy White looks like a bit of a bust, and Michael Jenkins isn't the type of receiver who strikes fear into anyone's heart. The Vick factor is a bit of a concern, but there's opportunity here.

 Damn, I love you guys.

Alright, I'm sold on Robinson as a BYE week filler.

Reggie Brown and Ike Hilliard are available but you've all sold me on his upside against a GIANTS Def that appears to be weak against the pass.

Brad Smith is tempting too....

I like Robinson a lot and will be starting him this week due to byes, but this news has me worried about Joey vs. those Giants DEs...

OT Weiner Out 2-6 WeeksD. Orlando Ledbetter, Atlanta Journal-ConstitutionAtlanta Falcons OT Todd Weiner will miss 2-6 weeks after having arthroscopic surgery on his right knee. Weiner missed part of Sunday's game against Tennessee, but had to return after Wayne Gandy was lost for the season with a torn ACL. Weiner had an MRI exam on Monday. The loss of Weiner and Gandy will mean the Falcons will start two new tackles against the New York Giants on Monday night.
:football:

After watching him in a couple of preseason games, I got on the bandwagon. He isn't a guy with great measurables, but he has that playmaker's instinct that makes players like Rice and Owens so good. No, I'm not calling him the next Rice or Owens, but he reminds me of players like that. He just seems to have a knack for making plays.

Last I read, he was only playing in 4 wide sets as the 4th WR. Has that changed? I'm not likely to activate him off my taxi squad until he becomes at least the #2 WR.

The thing is, he actually does have great measurables. He had a really good combine. He ran in the low 4.4 range and did extremely well in the jumps and the rest of the drills. He just doesn't have a flashy playing style. He's not an overpowering WR like Bowe or a speedster like Ginn. He's a vanilla WR who gets open and catches the ball. In that sense I'd compare him to Torry Holt or Reggie Wayne. Whether or not he has that type of career obviously remains to be seen, but it's a good sign that he's getting a lot of PT and a lot of looks right off the bat.

17 Laurent Robinson Illinois State 6'2" 199 lbs.

Robinson was basically unstoppable at the 1-AA level for two years running, and he showed why at the combine: 4.38 40 (including an excellent 1.46 in the 10 yard split), 39" vertical, 10'7" broad jump, and oh, he was basically flawless in the drills, adjusting to errant throws and catching everything. Robinson is long and lean with breakaway speed, and he knows how to turn that ability into production.

Laurent can work the seams and creases in a defense and seldom disappeared from games. He is long and wiry and will have a steep hill to climb before he will be a consistent producer in the NFL. His knowledge and instincts should het him drafted and from there he will begin his climb.

Tall and strong, good at jump passes, great route runner, fumbling is an issue.

I watched the NFL Replay of the TEN game and he seemed to be on the field just as much as Jenkins and Horn.

Is he as a good a dynasty prospect as guys like Jacoby Jones, James Jones, etc?
Tough to say. I like him more than Jacoby right now, but it might be tough to justify ranking him ahead of James because both players have similar pedigrees and James is having a better season. That said, Laurent is earning lots of playing time and generally doing a pretty good job. He had a nice grab in week 7 and has consistently received some targets each week. I'm not sure exactly what his ceiling is, but I like the upside he offers at his current price and I think you have to be relatively satisfied with his production so far. Even with Roddy White breaking out I still think there's a chance Robinson becomes the WR1 there long-term (not this season). At the least I expect him to be starting for the Falcons within the next 1-2 years.

Very good, athletic, young WR.

I coached against him when he was at Illinois state. The kid could do anything to us at times and we felt helpless. Luckily we went 1-1 vs. him, while I was there.
