LaVar Ball (Lonzo's dad) vs Stephen A Smith (1 Viewer)

WOW What a (Atlanta NFL team nickname) icehole this guy is.  I can't stand SAS but he's an angel against Lonzo's dad.  The guy is sooooooo full of himself.  HE thinks he can take Jordan and I don't mean Jordan Sparks or DeAndre Jordan, 1 on 1.  He is going to always be in the spotlight ahead of Lonzo and then there are two younger sons in high school coming up in the ranks. WOW!!

Watch this piece...... just to give you an idea about this idiot.

no

This dude is like a clown. He makes me laugh.  What's really funny is people like LeBron responding to him.  Ignore him and he will go away.  They just keep feeding him

Exactly...but ya know, Bron loves drama himself so he cant just ignore anything.

kinda like him.  he knows exactly what he's doing and it's all in good fun.  Might turn off some NBA teams but he seems like a good father.

It's good publicity.  He's got three sons that will play in the NBA, that's pretty good ammunition.

Doesn't mean he isn't a #### though.

Although LaVar Ball's outrageous comments had been relatively harmless over the course of the college basketball season, his latest accusation will likely be much more controversial.

"Realistically you can't win no championship with three white guys because the foot speed is too slow," Ball said, per Clay Fowler of the Inland Valley Daily Bulletin. "I told Lonzo—'One of these games you might need to go for 30 or 40 points.' It turned out the that was the one game. Then once they get to the Elite Eight, they're right there."

The father of UCLA star Lonzo Ball likely was referring to Bryce Alford, TJ Leaf and Thomas Welsh, three white starters for the Bruins.

While Ball might have wanted his son to score 30 points, Lonzo ended with just 10 points on 4-of-10 shooting from the field, including a 1-of-6 effort from three-point range. Meanwhile, his counterpart, De'Aaron Fox, scored 39 points for Kentucky.

As for his teammates, Leaf has declared for the NBA draft and is expected to be a first-round pick, according to DraftExpress. Meanwhile, Alford finished his career with 1,922 points, which is one of the best totals in UCLA history.

He's leaching off his kids success.  Hopefully one of them tell him to tone it down.  It's embarrassing
If I was one of those slow white boy teammates, I'd be quick to be on the phone with Lonzo and telling him to and his father to go ef themselves.

No point. Lonzo didn't say anything, so not sure why you'd be mad at him. Secondly, Lonzo would say something to passify whitey and nothing more would come of it.

While this may have happened behind the scenes....Until I see him have my (the white teammate's) back, ef him too.

I agree that he crossed the line now. My comment was obviously old and referring to his Jordan comments.
Fair enough if you were specifically referring to his Jordan comments, but I believe he had publicly criticized the two younger sons' high school coach several weeks ago, pre-dating his comments with Steven A Smith.

Why does anyone care about what the blowhard dad says? Why is he a story? After that embarrassing video of him "playing", he should have crawled back into his hole and ####.

Big Baller Brand just debuted Lonzo's new shoes :lmao:

Besides basically being a complete ripoff of Kobes, they're priced at

wait for it...

$495 :lmao:  :lmao:

I've been mildly amused by Papa Ball throughout the year, but now I realize how awesome he is. I might buy some $500 basketball shoes just out of respect.

Looong time Laker fan here and yeeaaaaa we got to keep our pick and have the 2nd overall, but I'm not crazy about this package deal of LaVar and Lonzo.

LaVar is seeking $3 BILLION for a shoe deal and says that no need to market this to women!! lol What an icehole...... AGAIN....

Read the Ramona Shelburn(sp?) piece on the family.  Here's my conclusion:

if EVERYONE says this kid is a hard worker, does what you ask (and more) and wants to be a team player (and has been), then kudos to him

I'm a fan of his schtick.  BBB is the little guy, im on their side vs the Nike/UA/Adidas.  Maybe they can pave the way for more athletes to push their own individual brands.  I know street brands are popular, so why not let these guys push their own?  I think the brand is rediculous, and I would never wear it, but let them do their thing.  Yeah, the dad is an idiot though, but it's kind of funny.  The shoe price is rediculous, but you can't criticize him and not Kanye.  Aren't those hideous things expensive as well?  Both shoes are ugly.

Question for the NBA nerds: What if the Lakers don't draft him, he gets picked by another team, and doesn't sign? Like Elway did in the NFL. Does he just become an unrestricted free agent after a year? Would the Lakers then have incentive to let this happen, giving them a top pick this year and getting Lonzo Ball next year?

Or, get it out there that the dad is serious and would really hold his son out a year if the Lakers don't take him, and pass on him until the last round. Remove any incentive on other teams to pick him and get him at max value... a #2 pick this year and this kid at the end. Crazy, but feasible?
Thing is, Celtics have a PG.  just get some value, drop to 3 and take who you want.

The Lakers would hold his rights for a year and then he goes back into the draft. That's what happened to Danny Ferry when he was drafted by the Clippers back in the day.

However, I think the NBA added a new rule which basically says that if Ball decides to play for another pro league, then the Lakers would hold his rights for the entire length of his pro contract PLUS one year.
