LaVar Ball (Lonzo's dad) vs Stephen A Smith (1 Viewer)

I see bad things happening to them and the team that drafts him.  I'm not psychic or threatening, but I see some bad things coming.

This.

It may start out all warm and fuzzy.  But it's gonna get ugly quickly.  Except for Boston, the teams drafting early are not going to be good next year.  And Boston isn't going to screw up their team to deal with the old man.  So he's bound to be on a bad team, and Dad is going to be all over the news about how he should be coaching the team.

The coach of the team that takes him might as well pack up his belongings now and save himself the misery.

To be fair, LaVarr never inserted himself into the day to day operations of the team at UCLA. He's mainly about self promotion, er, I mean the promotion of his kids. I seriously doubt he's going to be an in locker-room/practice facility problem. That just doesn't happen in the NBA.

True, but it is a different scenario.   They chose Steve Alford as the kids coach.  Now he's being drafted with little influence over the situation.

I definitely don't care for this guy or the family but someone brought up a good point today.  These kids have an annoying father but one who most definitely has their interests in mind.  He is going to shield them from money grubbers, posse types, gangsters, strip clubs, financial missteps, etc.  Even if he's taking some off the top it's fine, he's their Dad.  Guy is really obnoxious but I think those kids are way better off than the average top five NBA pick.  :2cents:

I always pull for the little guy.  Despite being a Knucklehead, it's BBB vs Nike, UA, Adidas, Reebok.

BBB is a small business.  The others are huge corporations likely mostly owned by foreign investors, that pay workers slave wages.

Isn't that exactly what he is doing?

Under Armour is the definition of a small business success story in America.  It was started by a 23year old driving up and down the East Coast selling apperal out of the trunk of his car.

I agree that Boston wouldn't mess with what they have by taking a chance on Ball, but it would be awesome to see LaVar's head explode to see his kid drafted by his home town team's historic rival.

I'm conflicted on this. While I agree with some of your points about posse types/strip clubs, I disagree heavily with financial missteps. This guy is a blowhard, he might be smart, might be an idiot, I lean towards the latter. He picked up 10's of millions in free marketing for his BBB brand and it resulted in putrid sales. Furthermore, he cost his son an endorsement deal worth 8 figures. I almost debated buying a pair of ZO2's because they could be a collector's item one day, being that nobody bought them, especially if the kid is good.

Furthermore, there are things you want professionals handling. I spend hours a day reading about the market, financial conditions, commodities, gold, stocks, bonds, employment, etc. etc. If I won the lottery tomorrow and had a net worth in the 8 figures, I'd hire a professional to handle my money immediately. His agent is Harrison Gaines (who has never had his own client) and his agency is Ball Sports Group, are you ####### kidding me?

At the end of the day, this dad is detached from reality. He views his son as Lebron James and the kid now has a lot of targets on his back. People also aren't thrilled with any brand he'll be attached to due to disdain for the dad. He is going to have to be the best thing since sliced bread or pops will have cost him 8 possibly 9 figures when it is all said and done.

I think the smartest thing the kid could do is hire a reputable professional to advise him on all financial matters and separate that from his dad.

In a few years from now there will be 3 Balls (go ahead, insert joke below) in the Association and chances are, they will be in 3 different NBA cities.  I don't see how he will be able to control a lot of things from his kids at that time.  Perhaps by then Lonzo will have things in place but still.....

Far from a guarantee that all 3 will be in the NBA.

The middle kid is a 3 star and I don't think the other one is thought of much higher than that. Extremely unlikely all 3 end up in the league.

Yeah, only likely to see two balls in the association.  Canadians should be used to seeing balls in their faces, don't see an issue here.

This ####### guy. https://www.cbssports.com/college-basketball/news/adidas-shamefully-gave-lavar-ball-the-power-to-remove-a-woman-from-her-job/

LAS VEGAS -- LaVar Ball berated officials in a game at the Adidas Uprising Summer Championships early Friday and was eventually hit with a technical foul -- at which point he threatened to pull his Big Ballers grassroots basketball team off the court in the middle of a competition for the second time in a week's span. Only way his Big Ballers would continue playing, LaVar Ball told tournament organizers, was if the referee who gave him the technical foul was removed from the game.

So guess what happened next?

The referee was removed from the game.

She's a woman.

And now things have gone too far.

If you read my columns regularly, or listen to our Eye on College Basketball Podcast, you probably know I like LaVar Ball. I met him a couple of years ago, at least one year before the rest of the world did. We're friendly when we see each other. I love his enthusiasm, confidence, vision and ability to entertain. And I think he's done an impressive job, along with his wife, of raising his three sons -- all of whom are quality students and athletes, none of whom has ever been in any kind of real trouble.

So, yeah, I like LaVar Ball.

Is that clear?

Now let this also be clear: Getting technical fouls basically every game for cussing at referees isn't a good look, and pulling players off the court during games is even worse.

Do you realize two different Big Ballers games have ended prematurely over the past week? First, there was last Saturday's game in which LaVar Ball pulled his team off the floor and forfeited because he said he thought they were being "cheated." Then came Friday -- when LaVar Ball got a second technical foul, which automatically triggered an ejection. But he refused to leave the court. So the game was called with two minutes remaining.

Actually still not sure what the ref being a woman has to do with it, but a total ####### **** move.
There is a precedent for him being a sexist pig.  See: what he said to Kristine Leahy on Cowherd's show a month ago.

And now he turned his "stay in your lane" sexist phrase into a t-shirt for his kids.  What a guy.

So.... it is basically the two most annoying people we could find against each other? Can't we put them in a cage fight to the death?

And take a page out of the Aztec book and sacrifice the winner to the gods.

I'll be honest, at this point we know that Ball and SAS are louses. But Adidas should be beyond ashamed for giving in to Ball and replacing the female ref. That's disgusting. They're just as much responsible for this incredible bit of misogyny.

Officiating group breaks ties with Adidas

Props to the officiating group for calling out Adidas and breaking ties with them.

Also interesting to me that Ball received more technicals in Friday night's game and were forced to forfeit. That in itself isn't that interesting, but I had read several articles on ESPN about this whole thing and not a single one that I read mentioned that his team was forced to forfeit due to more technicals being called against him. ESPN seems to be on the Ball hype train.

And as if ESPN can't get any worse, let's introduce Will Cain. Clearly knows NOTHING about sports, and today says lavar ball will be most powerful person in basketball within a couple years. I mistakenly scanned thru radio on my lunch & this garbage channel came on. Does ESPN intentionally look for people with zero sports knowledge, its brutal.

I doubt the NBA could withstand the hit it would take to viewership if this was true. The backlash to something like that would make Kap's situation pale in comparison.
