Former NFL running back Phillips sentenced in LA to prison

LOS ANGELES -- Former NFL running back Lawrence Phillips has been sentenced in Los Angeles to 10 years in prison after being convicted of assault with a deadly weapon.

The sentencing Friday had been repeatedly delayed while he dealt with another case.

The 31-year-old Phillips was convicted two years ago on seven counts. He has been jailed since he drove onto a field near Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum. His car struck three people after he became upset over losing a pickup football game.

Phillips played his college ball at Nebraska and was once one of the nation's top players. The St. Louis Rams released him for insubordination in 1997 and he went on to play for a number of teams.

With Phillips, Vick, Maurice Clarett, and Travis Henry, you're gonna have a pretty formidable backfield for the Longest Yard remake.

I doubt that Lawrence Phillips would even have value as a human being even as ingredients for Soylent Green.

Don't forget to get Bam Morris in that backfield. This could be a RBBC for the inmates.

First play Vick would get creamed because Phillips wouldn't block a blitz.

The ******* got Young assaulted with a deadly pass rush.

It is almost depressing to think what he had going for him and what his decisions have cost himself and those unfortunate enough to have crossed paths with him.

It seems like forever ago that he was playing. I can't believe that his is only 31 years old now and could still be playing in the NFL had he used his brain.

No matter how many times I read that it's unbelievably stupid.
