Le Mans (1 Viewer)

Been watching for a while now. It still strikes me as weird watching driver changes, even after years of seeing it. That Toyota seems to have alot more power on reserve. It looks like everyone in is just settled in trying not to have any problems or big mistakes through the night. I'm no expert on these cars, but I always enjoy watching any races. It's cool that we are getting all the car sounds coming through in the footage.

That accident around 11:30 to go was unfortunate but interesting to watch. Instead of just being done for the day, the guy got that mess back to the pits, and they may actually be able to go back out? That would be super impressive if they pull it off.

I kinda want to get one of those GT cars as my daily driver. 😀

That pink #85 Iron Dames would look spectacular in my garage

I stayed up too late and got up too early for the finish. It was an enjoyable race once it got through the early safety car deadzone.

It's big for the sport for Ferrari to win on their return to Le Mans. I don't know if the extra weight BoP penalty on the Toyotas was decisive but the Hypercars seemed relatively evenly matched throughout. It was a nice change for all classes to be competitive again.

Does Cadillac typically do well in racing? I had no idea they were doing anything race.

Cadillac badged prototypes have been running in the IMSA sports car series in the USA for a decade at least. This was the first Le Mans where the regulations allowed IMSA cars to run against Hypercars on sort of an equal footing.

Cadillac is a General Motors brand of course so Detroit is trying to position it as a competitor to Audi, BMW, Lexus, etc. They could just as well be calling them Oldsmobiles if that was still a thing.

I vaguely remember Cadillac ATS sedans running in the GT classes a while back but I don't think they ever ran at Le Mans.

The 92nd edition of the 24 Heures happens this weekend with a massive field of 23 Hypercars, 23 GTs and 16 LMP2s. The Porsches Hypercars have been fastest in testing but a lot can happen in 24 hours.

The race plus all practice and qualifying sessions are streaming on (HBO) Max beginning today.

Pole position is pretty meaningless in a 24 hour race but the top three Hypercars finished the 8 1/2 mile long circuit within 0.2 seconds of each other.

Le Mans never disappoints. Twice around the clock in those conditions was a challenge for cars and drivers. Fortunately I missed most of the four hour safety car period when we were out to dinner last night. The commercial free broadcast on Max was excellent.

I missed it again this year, i was too busy this weekend. I watched the pole position and that was interesting.

Next year!

Annual bump for the 24 Heures starting Saturday at 9AM EDT. All 24 hours are on HBO Max and Motor Trend again this year. I figured out how to mute the announcers and still listen to the track sounds so I have the best white noise generator for sleeping on Saturday night.

Cadillac swept the front row in qualifying today but it's a very long race. The Ferraris have been dominant in Europe this year with Penske Porsche doing the same in the US series. Toyota is always a factor at Le Mans. Cadillac have the one-lap pace. BoP and long yellows pretty much ensure close competition in the three classes.

There's also a new documentary on Prime Video about the NASCAR Camaro that attempted Le Mans a couple of years ago.

I was looking back through this thread. We've come a long way since Toyota competing against themselves in LMP1 and the WEC season looping around the New Year so it could end at Le Mans.

Yeah man, looking forward to today's race.
Just got my entry list printed because I haven't been able to keep up with WEC as much as I would like.
I'm an old fart, so I'll DVR the full 24 hours and watch all the night racing tomorrow morning.
Next weekend is IMSA and the 6 Hours at The Glen, looking forward to that.
Enjoy the race everyone
