league competitive balance question (1 Viewer)

because of an error by our commisioner, QBs get 1 point per 10 yards ("standard" scoring elsewhere) -- so QBs are incredibly overvalued. team A has P. Manning at QB, with no backup (playoffs extend through week 16, so there is a risk that he would have no QB that week, if he doesn't get another). team B is a Pats fanatic -- he has Brady and Roethlisberger, but Big Ben never starts because this guy wouldn't think of benching Brady (and other than the past couple of weeks, who could blame him).

so, team A trades for Big Ben. team B needs a WR badly, and team A has DJax, Stallworth, and Reggie Williams...seems like a reasonable trade could be made here. but, you guessed it, the trade that is proposed is Big Ben for Reggie Williams! yikes!

does this affect the competitive balance of the league so much that it should be disallowed? it is NOT a case of collusion, just one owner really taking advantage of the other -- but perhaps to the detriment of the entire league. i normally am in favor of allowing all trades unless there are clear signs of collusion, but this one seems so unbalanced that even i am questioning whether it should be allowed.

QBs that are available are Walter, Brooks, Lefty, and folks like that...so team A wouldn't have much to choose from (he did just pick up Sorgi this morning).

thanks for your thoughts on this.

Seriously. Your league competitive balance would be thrown off much more by not allowing the trade.

Trades involving guys that will almost certainly never even be in a starting lineup tend to have minimal impact on competitive balance.

dude, even though in your QB overvalued league, a team can only start one QB. So even though Ben will outpont Reggie, Ben is just a what if backup that will only play if Manning sits. How would this unbalance your league? Are you complaining that the team getting Ben is only getting a one time starter or that the team getting Reggie is perhaps improving their WR's (hard to believe this would be an improvement on a competitive team)?

Let me get this straight,

If this trade does go through, theres a chance 1 team may get better? Well then SQUASH the whole trade thing at once! Matter of fact I want Randy Moss back in a Vikings uniform and the Falcons want to give the Chargers Vick for LT and Bree's!

Nothing wrong with that trade. I'm dumbfounded as to why you would question this trade.
:goodposting: Rothlisberger and Reggie Williams affecting the competetive balance of the league? :lmao:

Even you, huh. :lmao:

That trade is completely bogus - he should not settle for anything less than Wes Welker in compnsation for Roethlisberger. One point for every QB ten yards is ludicrous! Can't you see that this kind of scoring inflates QB value and deflates nonQB value ludicrously?

I got a copy of davidwb's scoring system, and I think I see now why he thinks the trade creates a competitive unbalance:

Passing yards - 1 point for every 10

Passing TD - 6 points for every 1

Motorcycle crashes - 100 points for every 1

Appendectomies - 100 points for every 1

Concussions - 50 points for every 1

Photos showing drunkenness - 100 points for every 1

I guess you have been sufficiently chastised davidwb so I wont pile on but I agree with everyone in this thread.

Trade is fine, take a chill pill and move forward.

Stan Humphries would have ruled in this scoring system.
