League rules state owners need money in their accounts to make moves (1 Viewer)

Rules are rules right? I mean if owners don't have money in their accounts they are not to be allowed to make moves. Here is our bylaws:

""Owners are required to have their money into the commisioner before the first game is played in week 1. They must also have money in their account in order to be able to do any transactions after week 1. The league keeps track of the accounting for all moves/adds/drops/trades. The fee to add a player to your roster is $2 per player addded, whether it be via free agency or a trade."

This week the commish posted a league message stating that owners had until November 9 to get caught up. I called bull#### on that. I have my money in. Now in fairness I was an offender and put my money in as soon as I saw the message. I don't think any other owners did.

So I voiced my opinion before the waivers went through and got no responses. Waivers ran as normal. Allowing owners with negative balances to go even further into the hole.

What would you do in the situation. We have a long standing policy that we don't go backwards in this league. Meaning once the week flips over to the next week, the previous week is in stone. But this is all happening midweek. I feel it is total BS. Rules are rules. I don't think it is fair to ever relax a rule for one group of people. I know I wasn't allowed to make trades in the offseason when my account ran short. Am I off base here?

I want to make sure I have this right.

October 24, 7 teams including you hadn't paid, and shouldn't be allowed to make any moves. The 25th/26th, commish says "money by the 9th or you're ll cut off". You payand say the others shouldn't get waiver transactions The 27th, waivers go through and you're upset that the others got waiver transactions?

Seems to be correct

Correct. What happened up until he sent that email doesn't really matter as we never go backwards. The rules are written as they are written. Moving forward, I believe the rules should be enforced as written. Am I wrong?

Seems like they hadn't been enforced and commish just extended the non enforcement till the 9th.

I don't think it occurred to him or anyone else until that happened.

I love it. You are one of the crooks and you are complaining. You are not even a good crook. Just go sit in the corner and be quiet. Next year send you money in when you are supposed to. Too funny.

I think that depends on what you mean by wrong. Is it what's in the rules? Sure. But I think it's kind of a jag move to hand over your check and yell "now sic em!"

I had my money in. I just did a lot of moves and depleted it.

So this is a rule you want to see enforced when you are in compliance, but not before then. Gotcha.
Once I realized my error, I corrected it immediately. I would not have complained if the commish had simply locked down free agency like he should have. I'm a big boy and can take my medicine.

If I understand this correctly - you were also in the wrong here. But since you corrected it before some of the others, you feel that you are "less" wrong and expect to gain an advantage over them because of it? :coffee:

Sounds like your commissioner let things get out of control and he is now trying to get everything in order in a reasonable amount of time. I don't have a problem with it.

The rules themselves contradict or at least have the assumption built in that people wont pay on time. If it's a friendly league that has been around a while, let people play and pay with friendly nudges from the commish. If it's a serious league...well, it's not becuase this is week 8 and people are playing without paying. So go back to the other suggestion...and dont be "that guy".

Maybe. But then why have the rules at all? I mean he was all over me this offseason when I tried to make a trade before I got my money in. I actually missed out on a FA during that time as well.

My question is less about me and more about rules enforcement. Once the problem was rectified I think he should have sent the email and shut all the offenders down. That is what I'd do. I still think he should shut them down today. Is it in his scope of authority to pick and choose which rules to relax? I don't think it is.

FWIW, I'm pressing the issue also in an attempt to get people to get their #### together. I always amazes me how much a commissioner is a daycare provider for league members. I commish a league and I don't put up with any of this type of crap.

I've got a huge lead on the league but want to make sure the money is in the account too because I've got a good chance of winning some of it. By pressing this issue, I think it may serve to motivate people.

All that aside, I still think the rules need to be enforced as soon as the problem is identified.

Weak commish gets what he deserves. A league that doesn't listen. I don't like leagues that charge for moves but if your going to do it, follow the rules. If a commish can't enforce them, then what good is he. We had a long time friend in our one league move to Florida a few years back. Since then he's been a little lax with the payment. We never had a hard rule that said pay or else. This year we clearly stated in the constitution that if you didn't have your money by week 1, you forfeited every game until you paid. So of course, he paid on time this year.

You waited until you had a huge lead on the league to pay and now want to make sure everyone else pays?

No, what happened was I paid in before the season started. Then with the $2 per transactions I made enough moves to use up my overage. I was under the assumption that the league would bar me from going below $0 (it always did in the past). But the commish didn't subtract out for league fees. So I just kept making moves. So I paid in $130 and made about 20 moves. I thought the software would stop me when I made 15 moves because that would put me at $100 (league entry fee). It didn't. We all just realized this. I paid up within a couple of hours of being notified. Others still haven't done anything. It had nothing to do with me getting a lead. It was just an oversight. But an oversight that was corrected immediately. Whereas the other owners are still in arrears.

Eh, you have a point, but it is very small and you were also an offender. Since the commish is giving everyone until the 9th week to correct their balances, it would be best to just wait and see if he actually cuts off those who do not comply. If he does, then there is no problem. If he doesn't, that would be the time you need to press the issue. It's great you corrected your teams money status immediately, but you must give the other owners the time to do so also, as that is what the commish did.

I am in three leagues and every team is paid in full before the draft. This is really the only way to run a league. The only thing we collect later is the transaction fees.

Yeah, this is pretty much what I think is the right thing to do. I've already asked what happens if they don't have it in. I'll leave it at that.
