Lee Evans Week 12 High Expectations (1 Viewer)

My personal opinion is that besides Champ Bailey, Mathis is the 2nd best and most underrated corner in the NFL.

Rashean Mathis-DB- Jaguars

Nov. 23 - 12:33 pm et

Jaguars CB Rashean Mathis (groin strain) is not expected to play Sunday.

Lee Evans should be the biggest beneficiary of Jacksonville heading to Sunday without its top cornerback. Little used dime corner Scott Starks is expected to start in Mathis' place, with Terry Cousin staying in the nickel.

Source: Florida Times Union

Marcus Stroud = OUT suspended

Mike Peterson = OUT broken hand

The Jags defense is already weakened without Stroud and Peterson, but without Mathis, Lee Evans will have a field day.

Anyone else, including you Buffalo homers think Lee is going to go off Sunday. I personally am going to bench DJ Hacket for Mr. Evans.

Considering Lynch is out again, the pass/ run ration should increase a little. A Train showed nothing last week, but beware of a 3 headed monster at RB. I've stopped trying to guess Steve Fairchilds game plans, but like any week, Lee has the chance to go off. JP will give him some chances.

I started Jennings over him and so far I'm not regretting the Jennings part, but no way I was going to site Wayne in any case. Boy, he had a case of the dropsies against ATL.

Not a Buffalo homer, but here's my take. I have been a Lee Evans backer all year. I own him in one of my leagues and ,like many others, expected him to have a good season. But, I have come to the conclusion that you can't predict what he's going to do (partially because he relies on the deep ball so much) regardless of match ups. I believe that his match up tomorrow will be exactly the same as his others. He could roll out 2/25/0 or he could go 6/105/1. He's one of a few guys that I don't really look so much at match ups with. At this point in the season, he's a boom or bust pick every week.Just my .02

 should have started him instead of Roy, but now can I bench Braylon or Hines Ward for him? Maybe Ward, but that makes me uncomfortable.

Jacksonville's ranked 24th versus the pass, and with no Rashean Mathis to play Evans man-to-man, this is a game that he should explode.

Now we all are familar with Evans' annual 2nd half explosion M.O, and it appeared to be starting yet again until he hit NE. The Patriots have traditionally shut Evans down, so that should have come as no surprise.

But I think he goes off this game to around 110 yards receiving and a touch. I've been debating between Evans and Chris Henry as my #3 starting WR this week (Welker and Colston are #1 and #2), but I think I go with Evans UNLESS Housh doesn't play against the Titans.

Evans has a sweet FF playoff schedule, so I'd strongly suggest starting him in your playoff matchups.

Today's Rashean Mathis news from the Florida Times Union via Rotoworld:

Jaguars CB Rashean Mathis (groin, questionable) went through some drills Friday and expects to start in Week 12.Lee Evans' matchup would take a hit if Mathis was on the field.
Bummer for Evans owners (but I'm still starting him).

baldy was saying on playbook that the jags d has given up the most amt of plays over 20 yds (40)

definately starting evans this week

Evans is a talented WR..but , like the saying goes, eventually, `talent` is just another way of saying 'never having done it'..He's loaded with talent, but his bark is a lot worse than his bite, at least right now it is..He's wildly inconsistent, just look at 2006, where it took him 1/2 a season to get rolling, and we're still waiting for that momentum to start here in 2008..its week 12, you'd *THINK* the light would have gone on by now, but it hasn't.

I'd bench Evans until he proves he can sustain 3 good games in a row...not 4-31 type of games, but 7-95-1..

I don't trust Evans unless he has the perfect matchup. You gotta love the upside he offers, but be prepared for the downside. If you can afford to take a risk on him, or if you have to make a play for a big game out of him, I'd do it. I'm starting Holt and Galloway over him.

From ESPN:

ESPN's John Clayton is reporting starting cornerback Rashean Mathis (and linebacker Mike Peterson) are listed as inactive versus the Bills. Veteran Aaron Glenn will replace Mathis in the lineup, but Lee Evans and QB J.P. Losman look a little better for this week.

Evans not hot vs. J-Ville Updated 11/23/07

Evans, Lee WR BUF

News: Bills WR Lee Evans has not played well in two career games against Jacksonville, totaling seven catches for 70 yards. Evans had caught fire in Week 7 but has regressed over the last two weeks, totaling eight receptions for 105 yards and no touchdowns. Analysis: The good news for Evans is that he'll face the Jaguars likely without CB Rashean Mathis, which will make life easier for him. The bad news is that he's Buffalo's only legit threat to carve up the Jaguars, and they'll be aiming for him. Try to steer clear of using Evans as anything more than a No. 3 Fantasy WR in Week 12.

I have the same dilemma for my #3 WR selection (Colston and Welker are locks). Was going to go with Henry, but switching to Evans now. :goodposting:

I need the big week from Evans. After a Thanksgiving day that finds my team in a hole, I'm going with the upside. I can take the 3-30 game, but hoping and praying for the 8-130-2 game that Evan COULD put on the board.

My other choice is D.Branch, and this will back fire on me, but I'm comfortable with my reasoning.

I would make that same move if I were you - Holt has been very consistent considering how bad the offense has been, and Joey is probably the most suprising top ten wideout of the year.Jax has given up 40 pass plays over 20 yards, worst in the league, and missing a starting CB. That's enough for me to plug Evans into a Flex spot over Henry on my Keeper League team, but I don't feel great about it. Last two weeks he has been very mediocre, he doesn't have great history against the Jags, and the A-train is a huge step down from Marshawn.

The most pathetic, overrated WR this year!! Absolutely horrible, Mathis and Peterson out and he can only get 2 receptions for 19 yds (in the final minute) - hahahaha.

You will be the same guy on his jock in 2 weeks. Easy. It isn't Evans being overrated, it is Losman sucking. He under/overthrew WR's and RB's all game long. Evans is easily a top 10 talent, but closer to top 5. If he ever gets a solid QB, he will be a perennial Pro Bowler.

Weak argument. Losman is the guy you knew would be in there when drafting Evans. JP is the guy who has tunnel vision for Evans, and who throws the bombs in coverage that sometimes go for long TD's. Can't have it both ways. It's not like Steve Smith owners who drafted with Delhomme throwing to him and now have that POS Carr. JP is your guy, and Evans output today was atrocious. Blanked until the last 30 seconds are so, then catches 2 in garbage time.

WoW, yeah you are right on.He was targeted only 5 times, if you can't get open more than that with their star CB and star rusher OUT, than your horrible, sorry! I was big on him going into this year, held onto him all year, had im in during his big games, and started him today over Chris Henry only because of Mathis and Peterson being OUT! I was very incorrect, and sorry MY opinion is he sucks!!

My opinion is that he's not horrible and he doesn't suck.

I have both L. Evens and S. Smith on one of my teams........

Their statistical output is directly proportional to their QB play this year. F'in horrible.

I did a redraft league this year (something I don't normally do) and drafted both of these guys. Needless to say I don't have many wins in that league. I still submit lineups but I don't do much more to to be competitive.
